LUXURIOUS Indian APARTMENT TOUR near Cubbon Park | Bengaluru, India
I truly believe India is a place everyone must visit at some point in their life. The kindness and warmth of its people, the richness and intrigue of its history, and the explosive flavors of its food are all unparalleled. I am thrilled that I’ve gotten to explore this country not once, but twice, so far, and that I got to share my second trip around the Subcontinent with my buddy Sam from Sam & Audrey.

With our epic, seven-city trip through India now past its halfway point, Sam and I settled into our new digs in the city of Bengaluru (formerly known as Bangalore) after a long flight from Amritsar in the north. I personally prefer to go the Airbnb route when I travel through India so I don’t have to deal with the hassles of a hotel. Join us as we take you on a tour of our Airbnb in the city!

In Bengaluru, Sam and I stayed at Casa LaVelle, a luxury apartment complex in the CBD, or Central Business District, of the city, not far from Cubbon Park and Church Street, which we explored in previous videos. Our unit was B2, which was on the second floor of the complex. This apartment has everything you could possibly want: two stories, two bedrooms, to bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, a washer, a terrace, and internet!
Inside the living room is a small lounge couch, a larger couch, a TV, some books, and two very comfortable wicker chairs. Just off the living room is my favorite feature of the apartment, the open-air terrace, which contains a small table and four small chairs and looks out at the greenery and neighboring buildings outside. The temperature on the terrace is about fifteen degrees cooler than the temperature outside!
Also, off the living room is a smaller, second level that contains a dining table and a washing machine where we were able to wash all of our dirty clothes and a fire extinguisher.
Also on this level is a standard Indian bathroom, where the shower and toilet are not separate from each other, and the first bedroom, which was Sam’s. The room is spacious and had a queen-sized bed, a desk area, and a cabinet that came stocked with towels, bedding, clothing hangers, extra keys, and extra pillows.
The next room on this level is the kitchen, which is small but perfect. It had two burners where you can cook, as well as a filtered water dispenser, a microwave, and cabinets and shelves loaded with cups, mugs, plates, glasses, utensils, and extra toilet paper, which you’ll definitely need in India! The fridge is out in the dining area, along with the internet modem.
Next, I take you upstairs to my bedroom, which is another very spacious room with a queen-sized bed. The bed was a little hard, but I like hard beds, and the pillow was soft but not too soft. There was also a desk area where I had all of my electronics out and plugged up, and the room was spacious enough for me to have all of my luggage open on the floor and still not be in the way. My room also had a nice walk-in closet, which had enough room for more luggage, and shelves with extra blankets. My bathroom was standard, just like Sam’s, and had a sink, toilet, shower, and water heater.
I highly recommend you stay at Casa LaVelle if you ever come to Bengaluru. It’s centrally located, very spacious, came stocked with anything you could need and more and was very comfortable.

The Cubbon Park, officially known as Sri. Chamarajendra Park, is an historic park, located in the heart of city in the Central Administrative Area. The park provides sylvan surroundings to the State Legislature building- the Vidhana Soudha, the High Court Buildings – the Attara Kacheri and a number of other organizations located along the periphery and within the park which constitute the Central Administrative Area.The Cubbon Park has a history of over 100 years. It was established in the year 1870 by Sri John Meade, the then acting Commissioner of Mysore. The vast landscape of the park was conceived by Major General Richard Sankey, the then Chief Engineer of the State. As a mark of honour to Sri John Meade, the park was initially named as Meade’s Park and subsequently it was called the Cubbon Park. Since the inception of the park, it was developed and improved by adding new structures and features. In the year 1927, the park was officially renamed as Sri. Chamarajendra Park to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Sri. Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s rule in Mysore State.
Cubbon Park is under the control of the Department of Horticulture. The Deputy Director of Horticulture (Cubbon Park) is responsible for the administration and maintenance of the park.

Chamarajendra Park, in memory of the 19th-century ruler of the state Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar (1868–94), during whose rule the park came into existence. The landscaping in the park creatively integrates natural rock outcrops with thickets of trees, massive bamboos, with grassy expanse and flowerbeds and the monuments within its limits, regulated by the Horticulture Department of the Government of Karnataka. Flower show at Cubbon Park in Bangalore
Bangalore folks will have more than one venue to choose to attend a flower show. Taking a cue from the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens, Cubbon Park authorities plan to host their flower show. Flowers grown in the park are procured from outside.
Besides the flower show, visitors can also see century-old trees, water fountain, an amazing horse designed with flowers mixed with white, red and other colours.

SPICY Southern INDIAN THALI on a Banana Leaf at Nagarjuna + Cubbon Park | Bengaluru, India
For the first 3 weeks of November of 2018, I explored India for the second time that year and traveled through seven of the country’s most fascinating cities. And if it’s possible, I fell even more in love with this amazing, magical place. And this time, I got to see it all with my good friend Sam from Sam & Audrey!

Day two in Bengaluru, formerly known as Bangalore, continued that afternoon and evening with another divine Thali, followed by a visit to Cubbon Park! Come along with me, Sam, and our new friend Anashwara for another spicy food adventure in Bengaluru!
My Film Making Kit ►
First, we hit up a local spot called Nagarjuna, a restaurant that has served Andhra-style food since 1984. We ordered a spicy, southern Indian thali, complete with rice bathed in tons of ghee, dal with spinach, palya, sambar, rasam, peanut chutney, buttermilk, payasam, curd, chicken Nagarjuna, and more, all served on a large banana leaf.
I started off with a few pieces of chicken Nagarjuna, which I was told would be spicy, was wasn’t too hot. The spice kind of creeped up on me!
Next, we dove into the thali by mixing a spice called gun powder with the ghee rice. It looked so rich, like an amazing yellow rice after I mixed it in. There is an unreal amount of ghee in that rice! It was a little peppery, but not too spicy, and was really good!
The next item on our plate that we went for was the dal mixed with spinach, which I mixed with some of the rice. There were some peppers and herbs in it, and it was extremely tasty. The next thing I tried with the gunpowder/ghee rice is the palya, which is a vegetable dish that contained carrots and chickpeas. It was nice and refreshing and not spicy at all.
Next up was the peanut chutney, which was full of delicious peanut flavor. It was so nutty, almost like peanut butter, and so flavorful with the gunpowder/ghee rice. I was blown away. Everything felt homecooked and so authentic and it was so delicious I had to lick my fingers!
Then it was time for the sambar, which is light, refreshing, has a soupy consistency, and wasn’t too spicy. I went back to the chicken Nagarjuna and tried it with the peanut chutney. So good! It was like a peanut butter chicken. I followed that by mixing some of the rasam, which contains tomatoes and spices, with my rice.
For the end of the meal, Anashwara instructed me to mix some of the curd with some of the new rice I’d been served. It was cool and refreshing, like a mix of yogurt and rice. I then tried everything left on my banana leaf with the papadum, a thin, crispy flatbread that is so light it’s almost like air. Next up was the spiced buttermilk, which was nice, but wasn’t my favorite. It’s like a watered-down yogurt with spices or peppers in it.
And finally, we ended our meal with the payasam, a sweet dish that contained cashews and jellies and looked and tasted a lot like a light rice pudding.
After our meal, Anashwara took us to the Mahatma Gandhi Station to catch a 10-minute train ride to Cubbon Park. Cameras aren’t allowed in the metro station, so we had to stow them away while we commuted. We arrived at Cubbon, a massive park that boasts lots of greenery and a significant temperature drop because of the shade from all the trees. At the entrance is a cool military jet, and inside you’ll find vendors selling chaats, coconuts, ice cream, and more. The park was beautiful and packed with people, especially families enjoying a nice, relaxing Sunday. It was a great spot for us to chill for a bit before getting on with the rest of our busy day!

Lalbagh Botanical Garden Bangalore
Lalbagh or Lalbagh Botanical Gardens, meaning The Red Garden in English, is a well-known botanical garden in southern Bengaluru, India. It has a famous glass house which hosts two annual flower shows (26 January and 15 August).
Lalbagh houses India's largest collection of tropical plants, has a lake, and is one of the main tourist attractions in Bengaluru.[1] Lal Bagh is also home to a few species of birds. The commonly sighted birds include Myna, Parakeets, Crows, Brahminy Kite, Pond Heron, Common Egret, Purple Moor Hen etc.

Lalbagh Gardens of Bangalore were originally laid out by Hyder Ali and were modeled on gardens in Sira[citation needed] laid out by its last Mughal Subedar, Dilawar Khan (r.1726–1756).

Hyder Ali commissioned the building of this garden in 1760 but his son, Tipu Sultan, completed it. Hyder Ali decided to create this garden on the lines of the Mughal Gardens that were gaining popularity during his time. Hyder Ali laid out these famous botanical gardens and his son added horticultural wealth to them by importing trees and plants from several countries. Hyder Ali deployed people from Thigala community who were extremely good in gardening.[2] The Lalbagh gardens were commissioned by the 18th century and over the years it acquired India's first lawn-clock and the subcontinent's largest collection of rare plants. [3] A menagerie established in the 1860s was under the charge of G.H. Krumbiegel in 1914. Captain S.S.Flower reported that it included a Court built between 1850 and 1860 having tigers and rhinoceros; an aviary; a monkey house with an orangutan; a paddock with blackbuck, chital, Sambhur deer, barking deer and a pair of emus; a bear house and a peacock enclosure.[4]
The Lalbagh gardens are based on the design of the Mughal Gardens that once stood at Sira, at a distance of 120 km from Bengaluru on the main NH4 at Tumkur District in Karnataka. This is amply supported by ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) and other historical records. At that time, Sira was the headquarters of the strategically important southernmost Mughal suba (province) of the Deccan before the British Raj.[5]
In 1874, Lalbagh had an area of 45 acres (180,000 m2). In 1889, 30 acres were added to the eastern side, followed by 13 acres in 1891 including the rock with Kempegowda tower and 94 acres more in 1894 on the eastern side just below the rock bringing it to a total of 188 acres (760,000 m2).[6] The foundation stone for the Glass House, modeled on London's Crystal Palace was laid on 30 November 1889 by Prince Albert Victor and was built by John Cameron, the then superintendent of Lalbagh.[6][7] It was built with cast iron from the Saracen Foundry in Glasgow UK.
Lalbagh is a 240 acres (0.97 km2) garden and is located in south Bengaluru. It holds a number of flower shows, especially on the Republic Day (26 January). The garden has over 1,000 species of flora. The garden also has trees that are over 100 years old.[1][8]
The garden surrounds one of the towers erected by the founder of Bengaluru, Kempe Gowda. The park has some rare species of plants brought from Persia, Afghanistan and France. With an intricate watering system for irrigation, this garden is aesthetically designed, with lawns, flowerbeds, lotus pools and fountains. Most of the centuries-old trees are labelled for easy identification. The Lalbagh Rock, one of the oldest rock formations on earth, dating back to 3,000 million years, is another attraction that attracts the crowds.[1]
Gates
Lalbagh has four gates. The western gate is situated near Siddapura Circle and one can enter this gate and enjoy the sylvan atmosphere of the garden. Outside, touching the compound gate, is Krumbigal Road. The other side of the road touches the compound wall of R.V.School. The National College, Rashtriya Vidyalaya, Chikkamavalli and Doddamavalli are nearby. The other side of the road goes to 'Krishna Rao road', where you can see The Indian Institute of World Culture, a beautiful library and a fine auditorium, which hosts a programme every week. Farther south, Model House street and the Yediyur Terminus are the main points.
The eastern gate has a wide road with Jayanagar close by. The southern gate is often referred to as the main gate and is near Lalbagh Road. The northern gate is a fairly wide and big road leading to the Glass House and serves as the primary exit.
