Cuc Phuong National Park : Endangered Primates Center : 3 Days Travel Ninh Binh #4
It's my final full day in Ninh Binh. Today, I head to the Cuc Phuong National Park to see some wild life. The ride to the park is about 1 hr 45 mins. A long the way, I get lost and experience a wonderful ride finding my way. At the park, I visit the cave of prehistoric men with it's burial graves by the cave's entrance; and afterwards, I go for a 5 mile hike to see thousand year old tree. I also visit the endangered primates and turtle center located at the national park.
Lastly, I have dinner at a restaurant my friend recommended.
What a day! Come get lost with me.

The most beautiful place in Ninh Binh Vietnam - Van Long Nature Reserve
We spent 5 amazing days in Ninh Binh and found one of the most beautiful places we have ever come across. So much peacefulness and tranquility, Ninh Binh was spectacular in our eyes.
For our first stop, we visited Cuc Phuong National Park located in Ninh Binh province. Here we checked out a monkey and turtle rescue center to learn all about the animals from our guide that worked at the rescue center.
Cuc Phuong National Park - Endangered Primate Rescue Center
Address: đường rừng Cúc Phương, Cúc Phương, Nho Quan, Ninh Bình, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30–11:30am, 1:30–4:30pm
We then set out to go on a hike to visit a 1,000 year old ancient tree although only one of us makes the journey!
Address: Nho Quan District, Ninh Bình Province 432857, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8am–6pm
So where is the most beautiful place in Ninh Binh, Vietnam? We reckon it's Van Long Nature Reserve. We sat in awe during what we felt was the most beautiful destination of our entire Vietnam trip. Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve was more peaceful than the already awesome Trang An but with the same special breath taking beauty and more wildlife. Van Long was a simply magical destination and a must visit in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.
The next day we headed over to the more touristy area Tam Coc and opted to skip the rowboat ride there since we heard it was less enjoyable from a few sources including our own tour guide consultant.
Instead we had lunch at a popular lunch spot - Family Restaurant to get some energy for our final adventure (Thung Nam Bird Park).
Family Restaurant
Address: Ninh Hải, Hoa Lư District, Ninh Bình Province 43000, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8am–12am
For our final destination we headed over to Thung Nham Bird Park. Entry prices were a little steep comparatively to other tourist activities at 200,000 vietnamese dong however the bird park was very large and well kept. Definitely recommend taking a bicycle over there rather than a scooter so you can cycle around Thung Nham Bird Park and enjoy exploring the sights. Scooters have to be left at the entrance but bicycles can go inside the park.
Thung Nham Bird Park
Address: Thôn Hải Nham, Hoa Lư District, Ninh Bình Province, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7am–6pm
Our private tour operator during our stay in Ninh Binh was Tommy’s Travel Service. Tommy is a Ninh Binh local unlike many of the other Ninh Binh tour operators and he organized an awesome tailored schedule for us. Our driver was the kind Mr. Ha. If you're planning to visit Ninh Binh Vietnam, we highly recommend Tommy's Travel Service. He's a really nice guy too.
This is the final video in our Vietnam series! We hope you've enjoyed following us along on our journey :) Be sure to check out our other videos from Vietnam if you're planning a trip this awesome country.

VietCamLao Chapter 7 - Vietnam: What to do in Ninh Binh Area (Part 2)
Cuc Phuong National Park is Vietnam’s largest national park and one of the most important sites for biodiversity in the country. With all the activities it can offer for visitors, you can easily spend there a week. Unfortunately we didn’t have that much time and after short walk and abundant breakfast we were ready to hit the road!
Driving around reminds you that very often it’s not about destination but about journey, especially if you are following unbeaten path. On the way back to Ninh Binh we passed by some really local places and ended up driving through some rice fields. Pushing scooter through the rocks and dirt was included in our experience.
If you don’t want to go too far from Ninh Binh but still get imbued of Vietnamese atmosphere, you should check Bich Dong Pagoda. The unique of Bich Dong Pagoda is the perfect combination of ancient pagodas with cross-covered roofs, natural caves and majestic mountains. Once you overtook street vendors, you can enjoy atmosphere there and don’t get too upset if it’s raining, it’s even more special then. If you are a bit more curious, you can explore a bit dipper and maybe you will be able to see some private caves.
Not too far away to the East from Ninh Binh you can find one the most significant place for Christians people in the area - Phat Diem Cathedral. This beautiful cathedral was build with a lot of effort in 1892 (due to boggy surface it required a lot of work reinforcing fundament). It was a surprise for us to realize that it’s actually a Catholic Church, pagoda type roofs in traditional Vietnamese temple architecture was to blame for our confusion! Wikipedia says that this style called eclectic architectural style. New word learned today!
Phat Diem Cathedral was our last destination in the area and we finally had a chance to test local trains! Destination: Thanh Hoa. It’s so much better using trains instead of buses as you have all the commodities for a trip, even if it’s 3rd class tickets, without mentioning speed of traveling. It’s a win-win situation: cheap and fast!
We picked up Thanh Hoa not by accident, we needed to be there in order to get a bus to Lao pre-border town Sam Nuea. There were some rumors about possible crossing there so we decided to give it a try. 9 hours ride was waiting for us! Woohoo!
Apart of a day long trip the main difficulty for us was establishing a price for the ride with the bus driver. They tried hard to rip us off by charging us double and them gradually dropping it. No way we were going to pay that amount of money. So after a lot of discussions, involving some customs officials as well, we agree to pay normal fare of 300.000 dong. Victory for us! And with victory new country and new adventures were waiting for us!
Laos, here we are!

Vietnam's Largest National Park: Vườn quốc gia Cúc Phương
The oldest, largest, and possibly best national park in Vietnam is Cuc Phuong National Park. It's about 120 km southwest of Hanoi. Ho Chi Minh himself consecrated it back in 1962, when the Vietnam War was being fought.
We went to the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre, the Turtle Conservation Centre, the observation tower, the Cave of Prehistoric Man, and we searched for wildlife while walking the 1000 year old tree loop.

VietCamLao Chapter 6 - Vietnam: What to do in Ninh Binh Area and Tam Coc (Part 1)
Even if Ninh Binh seems to be quite close to Ha Long Bay and Hanoi, be ready to spend at least half a day getting there. Chaos on the roads and dozens of inexplicable bus stops converts two hour trip into six hours journey.
Finally Ninh Binh. The city itself doesn’t have anything remarkable but surrounding areas are definitely worth of visiting: Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Bai Dinh Temple, Bich Dong Pagoda, Phat Diem Cathedral just to mention a few.
Because of the variety of highlights in the area we decided to stay a bit longer.
Most of the tourists have their base while exploring surrounding areas in village Tam Coc. We spent our first night there doing workouts and eating local specialty: grilled duck, in company of some local travelers from Saigon.
Our first stop was Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel; capital of Vietnam till 11th century. Even if from citadel remained very little, it is still a nice walk through temples and royal tombs.
Road from Hoa Lu Ancient Capital with its steep milestone mountains brought us to Trang An boat tours. Surprisingly well organized boat tour that will help you experience vast system of the underground canals and caves. We saw a lot of caves and navigated on a lot of boats but this one, we should admit, was quite remarkable. The trip will take around 3 hours with several stops to enjoy surroundings. To add some adrenaline you can always help your guide with paddling!
If you wanna enjoy 360 view on surrounding areas and don’t mind climbing over 500 steps, then Hang Múa view point is the right place for you! It’s a bit pricey to get there, but absolutely worth it!
At the end of the day we ended up at Thai Vi Temple, where we have some chat with a monk.
One of the biggest and most remarkable attractions in the area is Bai Dinh Pagoda Temple. This complex consists of old and new parts, that was built not even 10 years ago. Be ready to walk a lot cause the complex is enormous. Strangely for us, there was no entrance fee and just small charge for a lift to the main gate.
After long and tiring exploration of the Bai Dinh Complex we were happy to hit the road again. This time we were going for real adventure in Cuc Phuong National Park. The plan was to stay there for the night, but we didn’t know anything about our overnight accommodation. Talking about park: it’s the oldest in Vietnam and well maintained. On the way from headquarter, where rangers gave us some information about the park, we stoped at the Prehistoric Man cave, before coming to the visitors center, where we were going to celebrate Maksym’s Birthday! What an experience for contemporary person to stay one night with no electricity, hot water and mobile connection. Basically back to the roots!
And what can be better way to celebrate someone’s birthday!?!

This is the first and largest national park in Vietnam, established in 1962 with over 22,000 hectares
I bought 2 types of tickets, one entrance fee was 60000 VND, and the ticket for local guides to enter Endangered primate and turtle rescue area.
The air was fresh and cool
Then I went to visit Cave of prehistoric Man, I continued to go deep into the forest to walk but my cameramwas out of battery so I had to turn back to Homestay and back for the next day
The next day the weather was so beautiful, I walked about 6 km deep into the forest, everything was amazi

Trang An - Bich Dong Pagoda - Local Visit - Day Tour
Trang An Landscape Complex has resulted in numerous karst blocks, bell-shaped karst formations, all with precipitous slopes. Lying between the karst towers are karst valleys and expanded eroded karstic lowlands, floored with limestone mud sediments, which are flooded annually during the rainy season. Therefore, today people call Trang An as ‘Ha Long on land’
