TRIP TO CULEBRITA ISLAND, PUERTO RICO
Culebrita is a small uninhabited island to the east of the main Culebra Island, which is itself east of Puerto Rico and one of Puerto Rico’s 72 municipalities. Culebrita is a Natural Federal Reserve and highly protected by law. No overnight camping is allowed there. It has the most beautiful, most transparent and peaceful beach I have ever seen, called Playa Tortuga (Turtle Beach). You can see sea turles all over in this beach. It is great for snorkeling since the water is amazingly crystal clear and there are no big waves. The sand is not grainy, but powdery, almost like flour. It has a non working lighthouse finished in 1886. You can hike up to it and experience a breathtaking view. Culebrita also has Tidal Pools (shown in the video) which are natural seawater “swimming pools” created by the sea water when it fills up openings in the rocks and corals when the tide is high. They are beautiful and great for snorkeling, but you have to be very careful when walking over the many rocks you will need to walk over to get to them (you will need strong rubber shoes, no flip flops or sandals). You must also use a lot of caution (and should decide against going in them) if the tide is too high and/or if the sea is rough that day. We spend the night at Culebrita. A small, uninhabited island off the eastern coast of Culebra, Puerto Rico and is part of the Puerto Rico Archipelago. I hike up in the evening and morning to the light house, find some goats, an incredible beach with zero people, and enjoy the views.

New Places, New Faces by Sailing JAEKA, week 22
It was one of our preferred weeks - we have changed at least 3 places within 5 days. We visited charming Culebra, an island east of Puerto Rico; we explored incredible Culebrita, a home of old lighthouse and wild sheep; and finally we got to St. Thomas, amazing place with lots to discover.
We are an international couple - Jack (from France), Kateryna (from Ukraine). We have been crossing this wonderful life together since 10 years. Finally (after many years of dreaming) we are living a true life. We have a plan to sail across all oceans (almost), and will be happy to share this adventurous lifestyle with you!
