Steve Paxton conference at Culturgest [Lisbon, Portugal, 2019]
Having spent many years on tour, improvising alone, in duets or as a group, Steve Paxton has been living in an artistic community in North Vermont since the 1970s. This talk that happened at March 10th 2019 at Culturgest, Lisbon is based on these movements, offering us a rare opportunity to listen to one of the most influential contemporary dancers and choreographers.
Jean-Luc Moulène / Culturgest / Lisbon, Portugal
How does photography deal with sculpture and vice-versa? Seeing the work of Jean-Luc Moulène from the middle 90s till now, it offers us a wide spectrum of thinking about this relation. Moulène is interested in the space between: photographing the consuming products from the non-existing country Palestine, the thirty-nine “Strike” objects which the workers produced during their period of strike or the “Les Filles d’Amsterdam”, portraiting their identity, their body and their working-tool. A catalogue is published by Culturgest on the occasion of the exhibition: Jean-Luc Moulène: Opus (1995-2007) Documents (1999-2007). The exhibition, curated by Miguel Wandschneider is to be seen until the November 25, 2007 at Culturgest, Lisbon / Portugal in the Gallery 2.

Montanhas Azuis + Pedro Maia @ Culturgest, Portugal
Montanhas Azuis (Norberto Lobo, Marco Franco, Bruno Pernadas) + Pedro Maia, 2019.02.15, Culturgest Lisbon, Portugal.
In a project that came into being in a now forgotten past, Norberto Lobo and Marco Franco have built their own mountains so that they can fly over them with spontaneous music, made with two open hearts and a whole host of synthesisers. But in this symbolic representation of mountains, three ridges are needed for us to be able to easily recognise them: Bruno Pernadas is therefore the element that was missing for a project that continues the same quest for the unknown in the music of each of them. The project functions as a kind of science fiction laboratory, with eager workers dressed in impeccable uniforms and surrounded by cables connecting them to their many instruments, manipulating and experimenting with unexpected objects. When they decide to show what they can do, they organise themselves on stage into a bluish triangular shape and play each other’s music, showing us environmental songs, interludes with healing powers, cosmic journeys, folk with jazz frills, and low-resolution electronic landscapes, among other surprising ideas that may arise in the meantime. Or ideas with images, for there is also Pedro Maia involved in all of this, the cinematic guide to this adventurous trip.

In Until Our Hearts Stop, six performers and three musicians find themselves in a place that is both a nightclub and an arena: an unreliable, high-octane refuge, a place of desire and illusion.

Hostage: The Bachar Tapes (Walid Raad & Atlas Group, 1999)
In Hostage: The Bachar Tapes (English version), the Western Hostage Crisis is examined through the testimony of Souheil Bachar. Mr. Bachar was held hostage in Lebanon between 1983 and 1993. What is remarkable about Souheil's captivity is that he was the only Arab to have been detained with the Western hostages kidnapped in Beirut in the 1980's. In fact, Souheil was held for 3 months in 1985 in the same cell as five American men: Terry Anderson, Thomas Sutherland, Benjamin Weir, Marting Jenco, and David Jacobsen.
In 1999, Bachar collaborated with The Atlas Group (a non-profit cultural research foundation based in Lebanon) to produce 53 videotapes about his captivity. Tapes #17 and #31 are the only two tapes Bachar makes available outside of Lebanon. In the tapes, Bachar addresses the cultural, textual, and sexual aspects of his detention with the Americans.
It's OK to Ask
We all have questions and concerns when it comes to immunizations for our children. But with so many different sources of information out there, it can be tricky to wade through all of it and make an informed decision.
