Caplin about to roll just off shore in Cupids, July 7, 2014. In early summer this small fish heads to a beach (usually sandy) to mate. The adult fish then die, often while being feasted on by gulls. Traditionally, when the caplin come this close to the beach, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians would collect them, both for food and to use as fertilizer in vegetable gardens. This video also features herring gulls, black backed gulls, and ring billed gulls.

Cupids Legacy Centre - Cultural Heritage
An Evening of Recitations at the Cupids Legacy Centre, July 26, 2013.
Hubert Furey, a traditional storyteller from Harbour Main, shares a recitation he wrote entitled You Must Believe in Fairies. The Legacy Centre allows visitors to examine what it means to be a Newfoundlander through an exploration exhibits that incorporate local archaeological and historical artifacts, as well as, aspects of intangible cultural heritage such as oral storytelling traditions.

Faerie Encounters 2014 Roundtable Cupids Legacy Centre part 3
The Cupids Legacy Centre’s 2014 annual faerie event was held on Wednesday, July 23. This year the theme was “Faerie Encounters…Fact or Folklore?” The event featured a performance of “Michael’s Encounter with the Faeries” by the Baccalieu Players and the Vanda Maunder Dancers. A video of that performance is also on our Youtube channel.
This year’s event also included a faerie story telling roundtable session hosted by Dennis Flynn. Part 3 includes Catherine Crawley’s repeated encounters with the supernatural, while on Faerie Pond.
