Animal Encounter at the Sea Aquarium Park in Curacao - Feeding Sting Rays, Sea Turtles, & Sharks
Feeding Fish, Sting Rays, Sea Turtles and Sharks while Snorkeling and Scuba Diving inside of the Curacao Sea Aquarium with Ocean Encounters Curacao.
We loved our experience at the Curacao Sea Aquarium. They have a great mission of providing education to both locals and tourists. Because they are located in sea lagoon they are able to keep all marine animals and creatures in conditions that closely resemble their natural circumstances and does this by making use of the natural sources on our island as much as possible.

It belonged to the Amerindians, was found by the Spanish, then conquered by the Dutch and populated by successive waves of Africans, Sephardic Jews and Indonesians, among others. Just 35 miles north of Venezuela, Curaçao is an incredible melting pot, so much so that it has its own language, Papiamentu. Tall, narrow buildings painted in Easter egg colors crowd the shores of Sint Annabai (St. Anna Bay), which divides the original colonial side of the capital, Willemstad — called Punda — from the newer side, called Otrobanda (literally, the other side). The St. Emma Bridge, which is on pontoons and swings open to admit cruise ships, connects the two sides, so a short walk takes you from the middle of Punda to the center of Otrobanda. Outside of the city, the landscape is dry and arid, with the spiky silhouettes of kadushi cacti serrating the desolate countryside.
The beaches of Curaçao are spectacular, but the best beach in Curaçao isn't on the island; that beach is eight miles offshore on Klein Curaçao. Before you arrive, book a half-day charter with Adrenaline Sports aboard their private yacht. They can arrange whatever suits you — a beachside picnic, snorkeling, fishing, sunbathing, water toys — and deliver you back to Willemstad in plenty of time to re-embark.
If cruising at the surface isn't enough, Substation Curaçao offers one of the few deep dives in the Caribbean. Unlike the Atlantis Submarines that descend a hundred feet, the Curasub vehicle drops down a thousand feet for a close-up view of the island's steep walls. View big basket sponges, giant sea fans and critters.

The Underwater World of Curaçao
This video shows the complex and diverse ecosystem that is created by corals. Study species Montastraea faveolata was surveyed on the Caribbean island of Curaçao in May 2013 can be seen here as the abundant framework-building coral in this video. Coral reef ecosystems are critically important reservoirs of biodiversity in coastal, shallow-water tropical and sub-tropical marine environments and serve as cornerstone species in these environments. Yet, they are also one of the most threatened marine ecosystems on the planet. Current threats have created an urgency to understand the nature of environmental and anthropogenic stress effects on corals. The first essential step to do this is to characterize a healthy coral. The goal of this research is to create a quantitative and qualitative baseline for what is a healthy coral. This baseline is vitally important as a comparative standard for determining how factors such as ocean acidification, increase in sea surface temperature, disease, and nutrient and sediment loading affect coral health.

Curacao Dive Site Guide | Playa Forti - Sweet Alice | Dive Curacao - Dutch Caribbean
Situated at the far northwest end of Curacao, in the fishing village of Westpunt, you will find Playa Forti. This scenic location, especially known for its incredible sunsets is worth checking out.
The dive site is known as Sweet Alice, located roughly 35 feet below the beautiful surrounding cliffs and just a short swim out from the beach at Playa Forti.
Park in the lot at the top of the cliffs and then take the stairs down to the water. The volcanic black sand can get very hot, so don't forget your booties.
Enter at the beach and swim straight out to the drop-off, about 150 yards from shore. It is recommended to do a surface swim to conserve air for your dive and for the return trip. Due to a good bit of boat traffic and mostly a sandy bottom, this is not a great snorkeling location. The reef starts at around 30 feet of depth and drops gradually to approximately 120 feet. Both directions are good, depending on the current. The currents are unpredictable but generally light. The fringing reef here is in good condition - you will find Sea Whips, Sea Rods, Cup Corals and wonderful Plate Corals growing along the gentle wall. Look for plenty of Morays, Spotted Drums, Hamlets and of course, Sea Turtles!

Towards the end you see closer views and the color begins to show up. This ledge starts in about 30 feet of water and drops to a few hundred very quickly. This was shot by Kathy Herrick.

The Suit Curaçao
A Unique Perspective on Curacao's Coral Reefs by The Suit
#coral #snorkeling #scuba #diving #dutchcaribbean #thesuitcuracao
WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao Underwater Kunuku.
Visit The Suit Curacao Website:
Curious about our kunuku (“garden”) below the surface? Then follow ‘The Suit’ for ten days from August 30 onwards as they enter the water at the easternmost point of Curaçao and snorkel to the westernmost tip of the island. ‘The Suit’ LLDS (short for: Longitude & Latitude Divers & Swimmers) represents a large group of volunteers and institutions who love Curaçao and want to make a tangible contribution to the promotion of our coral reef.
‘The Suit’ snorkels approximately 100 kilometers all while filming our underwater kunuku and the southern coastline. The objective: the production of a special documentary about our underwater world with emphasis on the fact that Curaçao is open for visits not only by scubadivers but also by swimmers equipped with just a mask and a snorkel. All of this footage will then form the basis for the production of a special documentary. This documentary in turn can be used by the CTB (Curaçao Tourism Board) at international conventions such as the DEMA in autumn of this year. A little present for Curaçao from the suit.
The snorkel trip starts on Friday August 30 at Oostpunt (Eastpoint) where ‘The Suit’ will jump off the Pelican Express into the sea. ‘The Suit’ will then cover a distance of 10km to Fuik Bay. Saturday August 31st is an off day for ‘The Suit’. That day will be used to evaluate the first leg after which the itinerary will be adapted if and where necessary. Sunday September 1 the voyage continues from Fuik to Marichi Beach (in Punda). On Monday ‘The Suit’ will snorkel from Marichi to Carmabi making a little detour through the Anna Bay. Curaçao Ports Authority will cooperate by barring marine traffic in and around the harbor and thus ensure the safety of ‘The Suit’. Tuesday ‘The Suit’ goes on to swim from Carmabi to Vaersenbaai (Kokomo). Wednesday September 4 they will take another break. Thursday September 5 ‘The Suit’ will reenter the water at Kokomo and swim towards Karakter at Rif St Marie. The day after, the snorkel trip follows the reef with destination Sta Martha and from there the voyage continues to Lagun. The final part of the trip, from Lagun to the westernmost point, which is also the northernmost point of Curaçao, will take place on Sunday September 8.
On their way from east to west ‘The Suit’ will receive special guests at certain moments. Bob the flamingo, together with his caretaker, veterinarian Odette Doest, will keep ‘The Suit’ company for a bit along the way. ‘The Suit’ is provided with a tracking system so they can be followed along all of the route. In addition, ‘The Suit’ carries bodycams as well as a handheld camera that aim to provide stunning vertical images of our underwater kunuku. Moreover, a camera team will swim along to collect the horizontal images for the documentary along the drop off and the blue edge as well as recording the progress of The Suit.
