2019 Irish Laurels Final
A huge capacity crowd at Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium witnessed history on Saturday 19th October, as local greyhound Rockybay Foley became Irish Laurels champion for the second year in a row.
The win saw Foley earn €30,000 for connections, including owner Chrissie Slyne (Minane Bridge) and trainer Kieran Lynch (Tracton). As a four-year-old, Foley is the first ‘veteran’ winner of a Classic in a number of years.
This year’s event was supported by the ‘Friends and Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing’ group, led by legendary GAA figure Jimmy Barry Murphy in the first of a four year agreement.
In a photo finish, Foley finished a short head in front of Gerry Holian’s Doona Buck, who was a further neck in front of Patrick Guilfoyle’s Grangeview Ten. 2018 Derby winner Ballyanne Sim finished a creditable fourth, three quarters of a length back, ahead of Clona Blaze and Newinn Lester in 5th and 6th respectively.

OUR PEOPLE, THEIR STORIES Launch
Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium in Cork played host to the launch of the Our People, Their Stories series on Friday 9th November 2018.
The series was officially launched by Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed TD.
The Irish Retired Greyhound Trust (IRGT) was first established in 1997 by the Irish Greyhound Board. Funded through owners prizemoney deductions, matched donations by the IGB & private donations, the charity works to rehome greyhounds after retirement and promote them as domestic pets.
There are many dedicated staff, volunteers and greyhound owners behind the scenes of the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust, many of whom have never had their story recognised.
Throughout the summer and autumn of 2018, the IGB took a photographer and videographer on the road to capture just some of the stories of our people.
