Curtis Falls, Mount Tamborine, Gold Coast
Nestled in the rainforest in Tamborine National Park is Curtis Falls. Its a short walk that will take you approximately 30 - 45 minutes. From the large rock pool at the base of the falls see the huge basalt columns, a legacy of the regions volcanic history. Look for basking turtles on fallen logs and see fish and eels in the rock pool. If you're lucky you might see the local platypus. At night, look for glow-worms in the surrounding cliffs.

In the Gold Coast Hinterlands on Tamborine Mountain there's a superb cascade of swimming pools linked by small waterfalls. Nicky Faubert does a hand-stand drop into the pool.

Waterfall on Tamborine Mountain SE Queensland
A beautiful waterfall swelled by heavy rains cascades down one of the many rainforest creeks on Tamborine Mountain. This clip was filmed after the heavy summer rains that deluged Queensland in 2010/2011. Once used to drive a waterwheel that powered a sawmill owned by the Curtis family - one of the original European settlers of Tamborine Mountain area in the late 1800's, the waterfall at Curtis Falls is now part of the Tamborine Mountain National Park. Tamborine Mountain was the site of the first declared National Park in Queensland. The local Tamborine Mountain Progress Association lobbied the Queensland State Government to set aside much of the slopes of Tamborine Mountain plateau for future generations. Many unique species of plants and animals were therefore preserved.

Some say this is the green behind the gold, which makes the Gold Coast so seductive, and it’s easy to see why Tamborine Mountain is in tune with tourists. Let’s start with the rainforest, in the third oldest National Park in the world, which celebrates the remnants of the former Mount Warning volcano. There are numerous walks and lookouts from which to enjoy Mother Nature at her most blindingly brilliant, including the mysteriously-named Witches Falls or charming Cedar Creek.
There’s 12 walking tracks in all and each one is no longer than around 3km, so if you like a stroll among the birds, bees, flowers and the trees, this is for you. For a change of pace, enjoy several wineries, a brewery and even a distillery up on the mountain, which is perfectly punctuated with award-winning restaurants, art galleries, sweeping coastal views and that delicious mix of old and new-world charm.
Indulge in home-grown produce such as avocados, kiwifruits and macadamia nuts as well as award-winning cheeses and fabulous fudge, or dine in some seriously swish restaurants. Select from cosy cottages, decadent dwellings and a hotel or two, including the iconic St Bernard’s Hotel, in which to stay the night.
Explore the area by yourself, or join a tour which takes in a number of attractions such as Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk and the Glow Worm Caves. Romantics rush to the mountains to get married here and it’s easy to see why. For this is Queensland’s own Emerald City. That’s right Dorothy, you are not in Kansas anymore. This is Oz.

Cycling up Mt Tamborine - The most popular climb on the Gold Coast Hinterland
Mt Tamborine is arguably the most popular cycling destination on the Gold Coast Hinterland. It's accessible from the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Scenic Rim. When my friend Ben asked me to join him on this epic climb riding from Brisbane I jumped at the opportunity. You know it's going to be a big day when you put sunscreen on before dawn.
The main part of the climb to Curtis Falls is a category 2 with 6.6km at 6%. There are a couple of switchbacks but not enough ramps to make things difficult for your average cyclist. The Strava segment shows attempts by Wout Poels and Chris Froome on the leaderboard.

Visit Mt Tamborine Queensland - Near Gold Coast & Brisbane
Mt Tamborine is a short drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. There are many fun things to do such as visit wineries, hang gliding, a host of cafes, craft shops, bed and breakfasts and trails through the National Parks.
It is fun to come with the family for a picnic or BBQ. Couples can also enjoy a romantic weekend getaway at one of the many unique Bed and Breakfasts that Mt Tamborine offers.
