2014 Brother and Sister Maryland Eastern Shore Getaway Aerial Tour Oxford
Wonderful time on the Eastern Shore Maryland with my two older teens. We stayed in Oxford, Maryland at the Robert Morris then visited the Sandaway which is our favorite private destination. After shooting some AERIAL video with my UAV and G3 Ultra for my GoPro we took a Ferry Ride over to St. Michaels. Had a wonderful lunch at the Inn at Perry Cabin where I took a few more video shots.
A Healthy Mind: The Oxford House: A Road to Recovery
In 2015, the office of the U.S. Surgeon General issued the first-ever report on alcohol, drugs, and health---in it the report estimated, “…over 27 million people in the United States reported current use of illicit drugs or misuse of prescription drugs, and over 66 million people (nearly a quarter of the adult and adolescent population) reported binge drinking…. The report estimated that the yearly economic impact of substance misuse is $249 billion for alcohol misuse and $193 billion for illicit drug use.
On this edition our topic is “The Oxford House.” The Oxford House is a concept in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. In its simplest form, an Oxford House describes a democratically run, self-supporting and drug free home. The first Oxford House was established in 1975 in Silver Spring, Maryland. From the beginning the group rejected ownership of any property and continues to rent – not purchase – single-family houses in good neighborhoods to establish new Oxford Houses. The Oxford house was cited in the Surgeon General’s report as “…a leading example of recovery-supportive houses, which is peer-run, self-sustaining, and substance-free.”
