MTB Cwmcarn Forest - Red Trail TWRCH
MTB Cwmcarn Forest - Red Trail TWRCH. The facilites are great here. PS Cycles in the local bike store. A bike wash station that is low cost but will get the job done. This is only open as per the timings of the shop, so check that info with link provided below.
There is a cafe that is situated just at the top of the hill and the parking is including as part of the ticket price.
There are so many trails that are not part of the official routes, but local knowledge essential.
TWRCH (Red Trail) has a techinical climb in certain certains and the elevation of approx 1,217ft.
CAFALL (Blue Trail) is around 6.5 miles long and elevation of approx 758ft.

A look at the Twrch Trail at Cwmcarn. Hard work due to my fitness being rubbish at the moment due to lack of bike time. Justin also was feeling ill all the way around. Great trail though, very techy on the climbs but great fun on the descents.

One of our last downhill outings this year, probably only a couple more left in us. Back to where it all started for a few of us - Cwmcarn. Can't really say it;s a Bike Park - just an out and out gnarly DH track from top to bottom, with a red and black and not much more needed. (Although we liked the jump line that they put in last year - that gave it an extra dimension too!) And glorious sunny weather, shame about the fires a couple of months ago, but everything seems to be bouncing back, as nature tends to do!
This was the first downhill venue I rode, I did it on a hard tail with my son, Mark and Josh. We lifted our bikes down the Road Gap then, and still could hardly ride down!! I have no idea how I managed that, and I think it must have put me off at the time, cos it took me three or four years after that to get into this malarky properly!
Oh and of course the ever reliable Darrell giving the usual excellent service and witty banter on the uplift ;-) Although there was an air of Mystery to the day ????!!!! Say no more..

TRACKSIDE: British National Downhill Series Cwmcarn
We're trackside at the first ever British National Downhill Series at Cwmcarn! Thanks to Juice Lubes for making these videos happen.
Riding Cafall loop and some DH at Cwmcarn Bike Park!
This place has it all, some serious fun to be had at Cwmbran bike park.
Cwmcarn mtb is an all purpose mountain bike trail centre with on site parking (£3), bike shop and Cafe.
There are multiple Downhill tracks which are served by an uplift service called Cwm down or pedal power (50 minute climb). Be sure to book uplift early.
Cwmcarn downhill tracks are steep, Technical and have large jumps, The tracks have hosted rounds of the British downhill series just to put it into perspective. Not all jumps are manditory so riders of intermediate skill level will be ok on these trails providing they have the right bike.
Also on site are 2 seperate cross country loops at roughly 15km each. Cafall and Twrch are Great fun flowing trails although be prepared to climb roughly 600m!
A great place to ride if you want to push your skills, build fitness or just go riding and get lost in the cwmcarn forest. This place has it all!
*Since the filming of this episode a fire has destroyed some of the trails......some of cafal and twrch have diversions and the top section of DH is closed until some trees are felled.
