Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour Route
Good luck to all the riders enjoy the video and please share it with fellow riders.
In recent years the race has usually followed a scenic 109 km circular route from Cape Town down the Cape Peninsula and back. The start is in Hertzog Boulevard in the city centre, at Cape Town's main Civic Centre. ( We apologize for not starting the video on Hertzog Boulevard, on the day we filmed the Argus route Hertzog Boulevard was under going road works). It then follows a short section of the N2 called Settler's Way, then the M3 to Muizenberg, and then Main Road along the False Bay coast to Simon's Town and Smitswinkel Bay. The route then crosses the peninsula in a westerly direction, past the entrance to Cape of Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park (within which Cape Point is situated). It then heads north along the Atlantic coast through Scarborough, Kommetjie, Noordhoek, Chapmans Peak, Hout Bay over Suikerbossie hill to Camps Bay and ends in Green Point.

CAPE TOWN CYCLE TOUR - OFFICIAL VIDEO
The Cape Town Cycle Tour is the largest timed cycling event in the world. Attracting in excess of 35 000 cyclists from around the globe each year, this iconic event is definitely a unique experience for participants and spectators alike.
Based in Cape Town – South Africa, the 109km Cycle Tour route runs through some of the world’s most spectacular scenery that includes the iconic Table Mountain as a backdrop. Starting in the City Centre the route makes its way down the Blue Route leading into Simon’s Town then turning at Smitswinkel and heading back along the coastline before the steady climb up Chapman’s Peak and finally the short, steep hill of Suikerbossie. The downhill to the finish in Green Point is a welcome respite for the weary cyclist.
There are approximately 14 refreshment stations and 13 medical points along the route. A team of at least 2500 volunteers from a variety of charitable organisations ensures that all operations run smoothly and efficiently on the day. A carnival incorporating hospitality tents, entertainment and guaranteed fun awaits the cyclists, their families and friends at the Green Point Finish Hospitality Village.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour forms part of a Lifecycle Week of activities that in clude an event for juniors (0-12 years), the largest health & lifestyle Expo (3 days / 75 000 visitors) and two days of mountain biking in the winelands.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour injects some R500 million into the Western Cape economy every year, but even more significant is the millions it raises for welfare and the impact this has on the needy both regionally and beyond. The main beneficiaries of the Cycle Tour are the Pedal Power Association (PPA) and Rotary Club of Claremont, which are equal stakeholders in the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, the organisers of the annual event. Rotary and the PPA share around R9 million of the proceeds between them, thanks to those who participate in this iconic event.
The PPA and the Rotary Club of Claremont plough these funds back into numerous organisations in local communities, including schools; children’s homes; skills development programmes and cycling development projects.

Cape Town Cycle tour 2018 // vlog
If you want to see the actual ride go to 10MIN 30 SEC
So this year I decided to do the Cape Town Cycle tour in Cape Town. The 40th installment of the Cape town cycle tour. Here is a vlog with the days leading up to the actual race.
.
I did a bit of training but I wanted to share my experience with my followers/subscribers. Definitely a thing to do in Cape Town if you cycle. One of the best things to do in Cape Town I might add. I got to experience the route from Cape town central all the way to Simons Town and then all the way back on the west coast towards the stadium in Sea Point/ Green point. What an amazing. experience.

Cape Peninsula Day Trip by Bike (not the best idea on a Sunday!)
The glorious spring weather in Cape Town had us heading out on the bike for the day. In retrospect not the best move as the rest of Cape Town had the same idea! :-)
After breakfast at Hudson's (Vredenheim Estate) just outside Stellenbosch, we took the coastal route all along False Bay (past Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, and Simonstown) to Cape Point.
Two Oceans restaurant at Cape Point turned us away as the 'deck is closed due to bad weather - disappointing. Especially as it's the ONLY restaurant.
At around 4:50 in the video you will see something that happens all too often around Cape Point - very aggressive baboons accosting anyone carrying foodstuffs. This time it was funny but please take care when you visit Cape Point to NEVER carry food around and be very careful when you have any handbags or backpacks as the baboons will steal it from you in a flash.

South Africa - Simon's Town and the Western Cape
The Western Cape of South Africa is one of the sharkiest places on the planet. It's also a great place to kick back and take in the beautiful scenery, cool people and the terrestrial wildlife. Its difficult to squeeze 8 days of a wonderful vacation into 10 minutes...but here it goes...Special thanks to Andy Murch of Big Fish Expeditions and the whole crew at Shark Explorers. This was an awesome trip!
