A Day of Cycling Around Kyoto Attractions [Cycling Japan]
Welcome to day 2 of our Kansai Cycling Trip across Japan. In day 1, we rode our bikes from Nagoya to Lake Biwa and down to Kyoto and had a bit of a rough night due to our hotel double booking us and not telling us about it until we arrived.
Fortunately, we finally found a new hotel to stay at and now begins day 2. Today, we're just riding our road bikes around a couple Kyoto attractions, mainly Fushimi Inari Taisha and Arashiyama.
Kyoto is a pretty compact and relatively flat city, making it great to get around by bicycle. There are also lots of shops that do bike rentals and also a couple good river cycling paths that you can use to get around.
Here's our cycling route that we did on Strava in case you want to follow a similar path. We passed by a lot of other attractions as well, including kinkakuji and Ryoanji, but unfortunately did not have enough time to stop everywhere.

Kyoto is also known as the thousand-year capital.

HOW TO EXPLORE KYOTO BY BICYCLE - Japan Trip - Part 9
I visit Gion district and the famous Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine in Kyoto.
I decided to rent a bicycle at my hotel and explored Kyoto for the day.
My first stop was the famous Gion district that is known for all the traditional buildings. If you're lucky you might spot a real Geisha.
I then road the bicycle across town to the beautiful Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine.
This shrine is known for thousands of red tori gates spread out across the mountain. You might recognize this place from the movie Memoirs of a Geisha.
Both of these places are a must visit in my opinion. :-)
I hope you enjoy it and thank you for watching! :-D

[Cycling Japan] Kyoto to Osaka River Cycle Path | Bikepacking Trip Day 3
Welcome to day 3 of our Kansai Japan Bikepacking Trip. In today's video, we'll be cycling from our hotel in Kyoto to our new hotel in Osaka. Most of the way there is a river cycling path with no cars, but it's full of really annoying barriers for safety.. We counted 24, but there may be even more..
We were extremely lucky this entire trip with great weather and today was another perfect day for cycling with nice blue skies and cool weather. My wife Thuong was starting to get a little bit tired since she's not very used to continued days of cycling, so we stopped for a nice big early lunch to fuel up for the rest of the ride.
Fortunately, today's ride wasn't very long (only about 50km), and we quickly made it to Osaka without any problems. Apart from the barriers, the cycling path from Kyoto to Osaka is very nice and really wide most of the way. There's also a lot of sports facilities along the way (mostly baseball), and there were a lot of people out today enjoying the nice weather.
Today's ride on Strava

As I said before I will share our great and fun cycling moments in Kyoto, which I experienced together with my husband a few weeks ago from our vacation. I loved being in this city because I can explore many sites in Kyoto easily by bicycle, and I got the opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese lifestyle with tatami floors and futon beds when we stayed in Kanko Ryokan Hotel Omiya for three days and two nights. Oh well, I will share about how nice to stay in this hotel later on soon! Read more on
Special in KYOTO, we rent a bike to visit many places. I've experienced what other travelers had said, yup! It was faster to visit many places just by jumping on my bicycle. If you enjoy cycling, I strongly recommend you to consider renting a bicycle while in Kyoto. It saves you from paying an extra cost (I'll explain, why there is an extra cost; after this) when visiting those famous temples, and it allows you to see a lot of attractions without a limited time. Exploring Kyoto By Bike
Exploring Kyoto By Bike // Spent an afternoon exploring Kyoto by bike. We rode along the river and stopped at Heian Shrine, Nanzenji Temple, and Philosopher's Path. It was beautiful weather for a bike ride, and it really is the best way to get around the city.

Biking around Kyoto [JAPAN]
The streets in Japan (Kyoto especially) are extremely clean even though there aren't many trash bins around. I learned that it is part of the culture that your trash is your responsibility. I found that really interesting.

Fixie Bike Collection at Kon's Cycle in Kyoto | Bike Shops in Japan #5
After finishing up our big ride from Nagoya to Kyoto, my wife and I spent a full day exploring around Kyoto by bicycle. Unfortunately, it was time for us to continue on with our trip and ride down to Osaka, but before we start our ride, we wanted to check out one more local bike shop in Kyoto, Kon's Cycle.
This shop was recommended to us by an employee of Y's Road Kyoto. They're known for their variety of city bikes and single speeds, and they also had a lot of rental bikes available. There were some unique bikes like Tokyo Bike, a treadmill style bike, Leader, Knife fixed gear bikes from Italy, a scateboard bike, and more..
Here is the website for the shop we visited
Kon's Cycle Takoyakushi (蛸薬師店)
〒604-8063 Kyōto-fu, Kyōto-shi, Nakagyō-ku, Aburayachō (Takoyakushidōri), 油屋町141
The staff was really kind during our visit, so go check them out if your looking for a city bike or bicycle rental while traveling in Kyoto!

Cycling from Kyoto to Arashiyama
You haven't been to Kyoto until you've tried cycling. It's easy, fun and only cost 1900 Yen! We rented the bike at J-Cycle, which is very efficient. The rental process took less than 10 minutes. You are provided with a map of various courses you may want to take, but you should also rely on Google Maps. As it's impossible to do everything on the course, you need to pick carefully. At the first parking spot, buy a parking ticket for 200 Yen, which you can use all over Kyoto. Remember to always lock your bike!

KYOTO VLOG: DAY 2 pt.1 BAMBOO FOREST & BIKE RENTALS
it's day 2 of our little kyoto trip and we decided to check out the bamboo forest!
we were smarty pants today and decided to rent a bike to cruise through the city, so yes we were definitely less tired and it really helped a lot since it was so so so very hot that day too.
it did take me a little getting used to riding the bikes on the opposite side of the road.
feel free to comment if you have any questions about kyoto or just traveling around in japan in general!
