Bicycle Amusement Park in Japan | Izu Cycle Sports Center
My wife and I went to visit the Cycle Sports Center (CSC) 自転車の国 サイクルスポーツセンター in Izu, Japan. This place is like a cycling amusement park, with a bunch of facilities, including a bunch of weird unique bikes, a road bike course, an indoor and outdoor velodrome, kids cycling courses, rollercoasters, and more.
This location will be the host of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic track and mountain bike races. The mountain bike course now is currently under development.

Izu Cycling Trip Day 2, Ride to Cycle Sports Center [Cycling Japan]
Welcome to day 2 of our cycling trip in Izu, Japan. Today, we'll be cycling from our Bicycle B&B to the infamous Cycle Sports Center (CSC).

Izu is a pretty popular tourist destination for cyclists and for regular Japanese people. I was pretty shocked by all of the narrow and busy roads, but there were also a lot of beautiful views along the way (coastal views and mountain views).
Stay tuned for part 2 of this day, where we go check out the Izu Velodrome and the road bike cycling course which was featured in the Yowamushi Pedal anime during their training camp.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Velodrome Tour at Izu Cycle Center [Cycling Japan]
In this video we'll be doing a tour of the Izu Velodrome, which is the indoor velodrome that Japan will use for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The velodrome is actually located in Izu, Shizuoka, which is a bit far away from Tokyo with some limited access and narrow/congested roads. We just so happened to be visiting the area during a weekend cycling trip with some other cycling friends, and we decided to come in and do a little tour.

It was Thuong's first time ever seeing a velodrome, and it was my first time seeing an indoor track. I've ridden numerous outdoor tracks in the US and keirin tracks in Japan, but this facility was completely different, and really impressive.
Hopefully we can make it back one day to watch an event live. Ideally we'd like to make it to watch the Olympics, but it seems like the seating will be pretty limited..

Is Bike Commuting Safe On City Roads? (Cycling in Japan)
I recently started a new job here in Japan and decided that I would commute to work by bike everyday. It's 20km each way, so 40km a day, 200km a week, and 800km a month. I got a lot of requests to show a bike commute route on the city roads in Japan, so today I tried a new route through the city and talk about is it safe to bike commute on city roads.
The river path is much safer and quieter since I don't have to deal with cars, but I found that cycling through the busy city roads was also a nice change of pace, as I got to see many other unique things and lots more people with their commute routines.
Which do you think is better, commuting on the city roads, or taking the river cycling path? What do you think of the busy Japanese roads?

[Cycling Japan] My New Bike Commute Full of Cherry Blossoms
Spring has arrived in Japan and the Sakura cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Today I'll be introducing my new cycling commute along the river path in the city of Nagoya, Japan. The river is a safe place to cycle in the city away from cars, and is lined with tons of cherry blossom trees. Quite the sight to see every year in Spring time :)

Wife Enters Her First Cycling Race... and Podiums! [Cyclocross in Japan]
Today my wife Thuong will be entering her very first every cycling race at our local Tokai Cyclocross series in Japan.
Welcome to round #5 of the Tokai Cyclocross series in central Japan. Today I'll be racing in the Elite Men's C1 race and my wife will be entering her first ever cycling race in the CL3 Women's category.
Today's course is at Aichi Bokujo, which is a small farm near where we live in eastern Nagoya, Japan. It is the biggest and most popular race in the Tokai CX series, and also the best course. It's full of steep climbs, off camber turns, burms, a steep staircase, and of course a heckling section.

Crashed my BMC Teammachine SLR01 Racing in Japan | Tour de Morikoro Park 2019
Every year I work as a rolling course marshal for the Tour de Morikoro Enduro road bike cycling race in Japan. This is held multiple times throughout the year, and I usually work the Spring and Fall editions. Today I was scheduled to work 3 races, the 1 hour, 3 hour and 2 hour races for a total of 6 races.
My goal was to ride over 200km, but unfortunately I was caught in a big crash halfway through while riding my BMC Teammachine SLR01, and broke my....
Despite the bad luck, today was overall still a nice day. The weather is starting to get really nice for cycling in Japan lately and it's always great to go to bike racing events where lots of different people show up.
Now time to heal up and recover for the next race!

100 KM Cycle to Japan Immigration With My New Commute Bag (Visa Update)
Today's video is split into 2 parts, I'll be showing you my new cycling commute backpack, and also updating you on my visa situation for my new job.
The founder of the company Craft Cadence, a cycling bag company based out of the UK, is a fan of this channel and sent me one of their waterproof cycling backpacks as a present. They did not ask me for a review or anything, but I just so happened to desperately need a new bag for my cycling commuting, which will be increasing to 200km a week, and I also really like the bag (and color), so I wanted to share it with you guys.
It also worked out perfectly because today I'll be cycling to the Japan Immigration office in Nagoya, and I needed to carry some different documents with me, along with my laptop to get some work done while I'm waiting.
Since I am changing industries from teaching to the cycling industry, I need to change my visa status (在留資格変更). I'll be changing from a professor visa (which is very limiting, but has an initial term of 5 years) to a humanities / engineer / international affairs visa, which allows me to do a lot of various jobs, including teaching, translation, marketing, etc..
I ended up needing one extra signature on one of my documents, so I had to ride back to my new company to get the signature, and then back to the immigration office, giving me a total of 100km for the day. Not a bad way to break in the new backpack. Also, it started raining on the way back home, so I was really glad this bag arrived this week.
