Nelson Bay Trip - D'Albora Marina
Taken 09 July 2016
2011-11-06 - Seahorse Gardens - Nelson Bay, NSW, Australia
Footage and photos from my SCUBA dive at the Seahorse Gardens located in Nelson Bay, NSW, Australia.
My dive buddy for this dive was Peach. Seahorse Gardens is the first dive site along the coastline located just past Nelson Bay's D'Albora Marina. The cages you see initially are not fish/crab traps but rather artificial seahorse habitats placed by a local marine scientist (Dave Harasti?) as research.
The Seahorse Gardens dive site sits beside the Fly Point marine reserve (protected habitat) and is best known as having a significant concentration of soft corals however, as the climate changes, the presence of these soft corals varies. On this dive we got to see them in full bloom.
As you head towards Fly Point from Seahorse Gardens the underwater ecosystem changes. In the shallow 5m depths there's a nursery containing small fish and photosynthetic marine plants and algae. As you go deeper these give way to sponge beds. Each area has different inhabitants, and the diversity is such that no two dives are ever the same as permanent and seasonal inhabitants, carried into the bay via the East Australian Current, compete for space.
~~~
Yes, I know the footage is old. I have a heap of unpublished footage to go through of my various dives between 2011 and 2015, excluding videos I did for other things so I figured I'd start at the earliest stuff and work my way forward.
All of the footage was shot with a GoPro in a modified housing using an after market red filter from Snake River Prototyping. Photos were taken using an Olympus Tough u8000 compact camera. Post production was done with Cyberlink PowerDirector 15.
The music was obtained from YouTube's own audio library because I cannot be bothered adding music I find at other sites under Creative Commons licensing to only then be hit with copyright infringement notices years later (if the music breaches copyright then that's not on me YT algorithm).
