TU Delft students visit DENSO Japan
From Europe to Japan: for the bright future of automotive society to come. The Summer in Japan can be unbearably hot for most people, but the 25 students from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) had a cool day at DENSO headquarters in Kariya, Japan (DNJP). Located in a beautiful small town in the Netherlands, TU Delft is the largest technical university in the country and ranked the 6th best in Europe. The visiting group was from the Precision and Microsystems Engineering faculty, and automotive engineering is one of their major research directions.

After becoming independent from Toyota Motors, Nippon Denso Co. Ltd. (日本電装株式会社, Nippon Densō Kabushiki-Gaisha) was founded in 1949. DENSO Robotics Cafe（CES2017）
デンソーのブースで注目を浴びたのが、傘下の産業機器事業を担うデンソーウェーブが開発した「コーヒーバリスタロボット」だ。これは同社が開発した産業用ロボットをベースにデモ用として開発されたもので、珈琲をドリップしてサーブするまでの約10分間を多くの人が関心深く見守った。
このデモで使われたロボットは、デンソーウェーブが医薬・医療用として開発した垂直多関節ロボットアーム「VS-S2シリーズ」2台。この2台が連携することで、コーヒー豆が入ったドリッパーをセットし、お湯を注いでコーヒーを淹れる。見せ所は、珈琲の粉をドリップにセットする作業だけは人間が行うが、その後のお湯をドリップに注いでカップにサーブするまでをすべてロボットの手で行われるという点だ。
