ECVB Power Station, Belgium May 2012
One of my most entertaining locations. This required getting up at the break of dawn, due to the powerstation being in the middle of a live one !, not only that, but we had to cross live rail tracks, climb a 6ft spiked fence and then sneak around and find the access point while workers dismantled pipes from the building next door.

Brugge, paasluiden
Tonen: G°, A°, Bes°, B°, c1, cis1, d1, es1, a1.
Belfort/Hallentoren: G° (Triomfklok, Melchior de Haze, 1680)
Sint-Salvatorskathedraal: A°, B°, cis1, a1.
Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk: Bes°, c1, d1, es1
Notes: Sol2, La2, Lab2, Si2, Do3, Do#3, Ré3, Mib3, La3.
Bruges (Belgium)
Ringing of all the bells of the city for Easter.
Brugge paasluiden/stadsgelui (reconstructie).
18 CREEPY Abandoned Amusement Parks
Amusements parks are believed to have developed from fairs and garden attractions that were popular in Europe in the 19th century. From there, World Fairs gained popularity and then the Amusement park began taking shape. Lake Compounce began operating in 1846 and is believed to be the oldest continuously-operating amusement park in North America. Some Amusement parks were not so lucky, and today we have a look at those that were abandoned for a variety of different reasons.

7 - Gulliver’s Kingdom, Japan…
It didn’t last long too long, a mere 4-years, and ironically probably got more curious tourists when it closed than when it was fully functioning! It was meant to be a boost for the economy, and although it provided short-term jobs, it didn’t provide much in terms of long-term employment. The site was vandalized and went to ruin quickly, and was demolished in 2007.
6 - Dismaland, England…
Such a shame that this isn’t around anymore, as Dismaland must have been amazing to visit! It’s more a bemusement park than anything else, and was created by street artist, Banksy. He kept everything under wraps as he put the park together, along with 60 other artists. The staff at the park were unhelpful and rude to people visiting, Cinderella’s limp body hung out her carriage… The horse, I mean carriage driver, should have gone easy on his pumpkin juice, the castle is macabre and thank goodness The Little Mermaid didn’t look like that in real life! The park was only open for a few weeks and was sold out every day, despite the fact that they had “It’s a Small World” on repeat the entire time! All that remains is the welcome sign which you can still go and see!
5 - Nara Dreamland, Nara, Japan…
Kunizu Matsuo was blown away by Disneyland, that he went back to Japan and decided to open up something similar. He had a meeting with Walt and they were considering partnering up for the new venture, until they came to loggerheads with the licensing. Matsuo didn’t let that deter him and opened up his own thing in 1961, with original characters and names. It went well until a real Disneyland opened in Japan in 1983. The park carried on operating until it really wasn’t viable anymore and closed in 2006. The park became derelict until demolition commenced.
4 - Mr. Blobby's House, England…
With a name like that, you can only imagine that its shelf-life would be limited. Mr. Blobby was this bizarre polka-dotted mascot of a show called Noel’s House Party on BBC. Mr. Blobby became a national icon, which is why this theme park was opened. After only a year in operation, the park closed its doors. Mr. Blobby became unpopular quite quickly, after he came under fire for “dumbing down of British entertainment.” The place was left to the elements, although it’s been said that many a party took place in the abandoned, crumbling remains. The place has been demolished and there’s only rubble left behind.
3 - Lincoln Park, Massachusetts…
This park began operating in 1984 and even had President Kennedy and his children come around for a visit. It operated for nearly 100-years until larger parks started attracting way more visitors. There was also an unfortunate incident which hung over the park heads, which took place in 1986, where the Comet Rollercoaster’s brakes failed. It made people question the safety of the park, and it was shut down in 1987. The Comet was demolished in 2012, as fans stood to the side to watch that very emotional moment.
2 - Dadipark, Belgium…
As the saying goes, it’s all fun and games until somebody gets hurt! This Belgian theme park was originally intended to keep the church children from getting bored, and began as a mere playground. Built in 1950, children of the Basilica of Our Lady of Dadizele and the children of pilgrims visiting the basilica, would all play there. By 1980 the regular playground rides were replaced with amusement rides and opened for business. A million people came to the park every year but it was expensive to maintain and equipment
