7 - Garden of Eden…
For quite some time, archaeologists have suspected that the ancient Egyptians planted gardens at the entrance of their tombs but had never found concrete evidence. All they had was illustrations on the inside of tomb walls, but a recent discovery has finally yielded the proof they needed. They found a garden on the Dra Abu el-Naga hill in Luxor. It was a 3 x 2-meter garden and Dr Jose Manuel Galán of the Spanish National Research Council believes it’s doing to provide fabulous information about botany and environment conditions from 4,000-years ago!
6 - Beneath the surface…
At one point in time in ancient Egypt, the kings of Kush were in power, but when Aspelta came into power - 593–568 BC, the Kush only ruled their own kingdom but still referred to themselves as the kings of Egypt. Excavations have continued where they were based, which is at Dangeil in Sudan. Archeologists have been spending time inside a temple of the Egyptian god Amun, and they have recently picked up sought after fragments and managed to piece together the face of Aspelta. Thought to be 2,600-years old, Aspelta was said to be “king of Upper and Lower Egypt”. The building where the discovery was made was abandoned, yet other bodies have been found buried there and no one knows where they come from or who those people were.
5 - Try and try again…
This is a great story of try and try again. Roughly 4,600-years ago, King Sneferu of the 4th Dynasty built the very first smooth-sided pyramid. He didn’t get it right first time though and had a rather embarrassing failure with his “bent” pyramid. His first attempt saw the pyramid change from a 54-degree angle at the base to 43-degrees halfway up. King Sneferu’s son succeeded him and it was largely thanks to him the Great Pyramid at Giza was built. Now, just south of all this is the royal cemetery of Dahshur where a new pyramid was recently discovered. This one is from the Middle Kingdom and believed to belong to King Ameni Ka Mauw who ruled during the 13th Dynasty. The pyramid had 10 lines of hieroglyphic text which experts are still busy trying to translate.
4 - It’s all there…
An intact tomb was found at Qubbet el-Hawa, Aswan, which is an area well-known for great finds. 14 tombs of members of the ruling class of the river island of Elephantine were discovered and in March 2017, yet another tomb was uncovered. The occupant is believed to be a brother of Sarenput II, an important governor of the 12th Dynasty. The best part was that the tomb was in such excellent condition and there was a range of funerary goods inside, including some pottery, wooden figures, two cedar coffins and the mummy as well as the mask were all well-preserved.
3 - The search has ended…
Quite a while back, in 1907, two mummies were discovered that ended up causing a lot of frustration for researchers. They were found 250-miles South of Cairo side-by-side and estimated to be 4,000 years old. Named Khnum-Nakht and Nakht-Ankh, they’re thought to be royalty due to their rich tombs. On each coffin was the name Khnum-Aa, a female name that many believe to be their mother. Only recently have scientists been able to confirm this information, and they’ve also managed to figure out that the brothers were half-brothers born 20-years apart.
2 - Ankle Deep…
We’re back in Luxor where 8 mummies were recently found in a tomb. It was April of 2018 when these mummies were found alongside more than 1,000 statues and several coffins inside an ancient noble’s tomb near the Valley of the Kings. What made the discovery a little unusual was that the coffins were beautifully decorated in red, blue, black, green, and yellow… excavations continue.

The Tomb of an Egyptian God? Mastaba 17 at the Meidum Pyramid | Ancient Architects
The Pyramid of Meidum is said to be the oldest of the three pyramids built by King Sneferu, but I believe that the core of this pyramid was originally a finished stepped construction in its own right.
I believe Sneferu attempted to convert this stepped pyramid into a true pyramid, and I have also made a video in the past about my hypothesis that the Bent Pyramid is actually a converted Ziggurat-style building and this is why it has its bent shape. I’ve linked this video below in the description.
I believe that Sneferu renovated these much older constructions but his work on the pyramid of Meidum specifically was somewhat of a failure.
No burial was ever discovered inside the Pyramid of Meidum and the internal layout of the pyramid doesn’t exactly scream that it’s a tomb. I believe it had another function altogether, one that we can only speculate as to what it was.
To the north-east of the pyramid, just a few hundred yards away, there is a colossal structure in a ruinous state known as Mastaba 17, and inside are some mysterious remains that may be of an ancient Pre-Dynastic King, who was to become a god!

Giza Pyramids, Saqqara, Dahshur, Qarun, Whales Valley, Birqash Camel Market - By Carmine Salituro
Mummies Discovered Near Ancient Egyptian Pyramids
Egypt opened up two of its oldest pyramids to the public. The Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid are part of the Dahshur necropolis area. The site has been off limits to visitors since 1965. Built under Pharaoh Sneferu, the pyramids date to approximately 2600 B.C. The Red Pyramid is Egypt's third-largest, after Khufu and Khafra at Giza. Egyptian officials also announced that archaeologists had unearthed a number of items from the area, including sarcophagi containing mummies.

Great Pyramid Giza: Robotic blimp drone to explore newly discovered hidden chamber - TomoNews
PARIS — Researchers are developing a blimp-like drone that can explore a newly discovered hidden chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Research institutions Inria and the French National Center for Scientific Research are designing the drone to squeeze through a 1.5-inch hole, before unfolding and inflating, Digital Trends reported.
The main challenge is to insert a complete exploration robot in a hole that is as small as possible, Inria researcher Dr. Jean-Baptiste Mouret told Digital Trends. It's important to use a hole as small as possible because we want to leave as few traces as we can. This is what we call 'minimally invasive robotics.' We chose a diameter of 1.5 inches because it is a good trade-off between the size of the hole, the kind of machines that can bore holes, and the current robotic technologies.
The blimp model was chosen over conventional multi-rotor drones because it's safer the surrounding environment during exploration.
The blimp drone can make contact with obstacles without damaging the monument. They are also more stable than multi-rotor drones, which is important for taking photos in low-light conditions.
The camera equipped drone will be remotely operated by radio, however can also operate autonomously via small onboard sensors.
