Obon Festival at Ekoji Temple
Hello Everyone,
Last week I was able to attend the annual Obon Festival at Ekoji Buddhist Temple on Fairfax, Virginia. The event was packed with entertainment and activities. There was fresh organic Japanese Veggies, Shaved Ice Bentos and food everywhere. Everyone was able to participate in folk dancing and crafts. There was even a kimono fashion show. I highly recommend attending and Obon Festival if you’re interested. It was my first time at a Buddhist temple and it was a memorable experience.
This is a Vlog/ Japanese Cultural segment, and I hope to have many more in the future. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to ask, and please don’t hesitate to like, comment, subscribe, or share the video if you enjoyed it and would like to see more.
I want to give a big Thank you to Nen Daiko for allowing me to use footage of their performance and ample of their music.

Reasons for religion -- a quest for inner peace | Daiko Matsuyama | TEDxKyoto
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Taizoin Temple Deputy Head Priest Daiko Matsuyama, explores Inter-faith dialogue
as a path towards spreading the teaching of Buddhism and a promising first step towards lasting international peace.
Buddhist Priest
In a world increasingly fragmented across the kaleidoscope of beliefs and religions, it is easy to feel that we may never see peace in our time. However, are we really as divided as we think? Daiko Matsuyama, Deputy Head Priest of Taizoin Zen Buddhist Temple in Kyoto, Japan holds inter-faith dialogue as one powerful strategy that can bring our disparate world together. As a first step, Matsuyama encourages us to respect other religions as equal in value to our own religions and beliefs. Far from the stereotypical image of the secluded, meditating monk, Matsuyama seeks to spread the teachings of Buddhism throughout the world. After hosting a G8 Summit Sherpa Meeting in 2008, Matsuyama was appointed as a Visit Japan Goodwill Ambassador as well as a Kyoto Travel Omotenashi Ambassador. He also visited the Vatican as a representative of Buddhist priests, and participated in Ekiden In Luxembourg. This year he helped organize the interfaith leaders’ Ekiden in Kyoto and attended The World Economic Forum as a young Japanese leader. Both in Japan and internationally Matsuyama seeks to teach the importance of communication in building a peaceful future.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Bon Odori by NihonJin Kai 3/8 - Copenhagen Sakura Festival
NihonJin Kai, stands for White Japanese, is a group that practices in Valby, Copenhagen!
Bon Odori is the Japanese celebration of the the deceased parents and ancestors. The music, songs and dances may differ from region to region and may be sacred or, with some sake, may be more spirited, or profane. The dancers perform certain gestures that may tell tales of the deceased, his/her profession, his/her likes etc...Flowery straw hats, or fans, or handkerchiefs, or lanterns are branded and used in the ceremony. The dancers may proceed clockwise or counter-clockwise, or even in a straight line, when going trough the streets! Usually they rotate around a Master of ceremony, here with the Taiko, the drum.
The Copenhagen Sakura Festival, this year, the eight, to celebrate the blossoming of the 200 Cherry trees, donated, 10 years ago, by a Japanese Businessman who made his fortune selling Danish Pastry in Japan!
