Snow hike from Khajjiar to Dainkund Peak Dalhousie | Chamba Himachal Pradesh |
Dainkund Peak is the highest peak near Dalhousie and is easily reachable from Dalhousie side with a 1.5 km hike from the road end. But in winters when the road above Dalhousie close due to snow then it becomes a very long hike as you also need to cover the 13 kms road distance by foot.
So in this video I've shown a shortcut to reach Dainkund Peak easily even when the road is closed. This shortcut starts from 6 kms from Khajjiar and this 6 kms of road mostly opens within 2-3 days of fresh snowfall so you can reach here by vehicle if you don't wanna hike those 6 kms on road. And from that point you'll reach Dainkund Peak in max of 2 hrs.
So if you're hiking from Khajjiar lake you'll reach at Dainkund Peak in just 3-4 hrs with a normal speed. So you'll have more time to spend on top and enjoy the views there and you'll get back to Khajjiar timely.
I hope this video will be helpful for you guys.
Have fun ! Happy winters! ☃️

Khajjiar (Switzerland of India), Dainkund Peak and Kalatop Forest | Dalhousie Day-2 |
Khajjiar is a place in the Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh. located approximately 24 km from Dalhousie. Khajjiar sits on a small plateau with a small stream-fed lake in the middle that has been covered over with weeds. The hill station is surrounded by meadows and forests. It is about 6,500 feet (2,000 m) above sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges of the Western Himalayas and peaks can be seen in the distance. It is part of the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary.
Khajjiar can be reached from Dalhousie, the nearest major town and hill station, by bus in an hour or so. It has a rare combination of three ecosystems: lake, pasture and forest.
On 7 July 1992, Mr. Willy T. Blazer, Vice Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland in India brought Khajjiar on the world tourism map by calling it Mini Switzerland. He also put a sign board of a yellow Swiss hiking footpath showing Khajjiar's distance from the Swiss capital Bern-6194 km. Khajjiar is among the 160 locations in the world that bear topographical resemblance with Switzerland. The counselor also took from Khajjiar a stone which will form part of a stone collage around the Swiss Parliament to remind the visitors of Khajjiar as a Mini Switzerland of India.
There is a hotel and some cottages run by HP Tourism at Khajjiar where the tourists can stay. Besides that, there are two rest houses one each of P.W.D. and Forest Deptt. A couple of private hotels have also come up, which do not match the above places in terms of location and amenities.
Most tourists travel to Khajjiar by private or rented vehicles. Bus service to and from Khajjiar is limited and timing changes according to local demands.
The best entertainment in Khajjiar is to walk around the lake or to go for long walks in the thick pine forests. Children enjoy this place because of the freedom of movement and the sloped terrain which permits them to roll down to the lake without getting hurt. Another attraction is horse riding.
Khajjiar Lake
Khajjiar Lake is a small lake, surrounded by saucer-shaped lush green meadow and a floating island. The dense growth of weed called vacha has made its earth spongy. Now the banks stand covered by a thick layer of earth, formed by the years of dust settling down on the weeds.
Dainkund Peak is a stunning tourist place, perched at an altitude of 2755 meters, is the supreme mount in Dalhousie.
From this peak tourists can relish 360° view of the entire valley. The noise of the breeze passing through the trees makes a musical sound, due to which this peak has also obtained the name, the singing hill.
The vertex of this hill is engaged by the Indian Air Force and by taking a left turn from there will take tourists to the Pholani Devi Temple. One of the most pleasant facts about this temple is that, except a trident there is nothing inside the temple premises. From above, tourists can also enjoy trekking in this attractive hill.
Located at a margin of 10 km and an elevation of 2755 meters above the sea level, Dainkund Peak is one of the most visited place in Dalhousie. This place has a scenical charm and the picturesque view of the surroundings will exactly take your breath away. In this peak people love to walk and trek up here. Pupils really enjoy and spend lots of time in this pretty environment. Dalhousie Attractions are Weather, How to reach, Hotels Holidays and Map.
Dainkund is the highest mountain peak in Dalhousie provides the superb setting for the entire valley. Trekking is the most common path to get to the top and is an unreliable experience, with great views and fresh or cool mountain air. The sweet sound of the calm or a pleasing breeze blowing through the trees makes a musical serenade makes Dainkund famously known as the singing hill. An Air Force base in India in peak Dainkund and turn left from there is the Pholani Devi Temple which is the major attraction here.
Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary is a 30.69 km² animal sanctuary at Kalatop and Khajjiar in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The sanctuary area is well laid out for trekking trails both at Kalatop and Khajjiar. There is a dense deodar and fir forest covering 19.63 km² of the sanctuary, which is about 6 km from Dalhousie. Pheasants, serow and black bear are some of the common animals found here. The sanctuary lies in the path of the Ravi River, and is surrounded by coniferous and oak forests.
The vegetation consists of blue pine and deodar forest, with oak. Undergrowth in the forest area is well developed.
Mammals- bear, Himalayan Black Marten, leopard, deer, Barking Goral, squirrel, serow, jackal, langur.
Birds- Blackbird.

Children enjoy this place because of the freedom of movement and the slopy terrain which permits them to roll down to the lake without getting hurt. Another attraction like any other hill station is horse riding.Dhauladhar mountains:Dense deodars, pines and lush green meadows are characteristic of Khajjiar. Since Khajjiar is situated at the base of the Dhauladhar mountains, the tourists here can get panoramic views of the mountains
Khajjiar Lake: Khajjiar Lake is a small lake, surrounded by saucer-shaped lush green meadow and a floating island. The dense growth of weed called 'vacha' has made its earth spongy. Now the banks stand covered by a thick layer of earth, formed by the years of dust settling down on the weeds.
Khajjinag temple: A little away from the lake is the temple of Khajji Nag belonging to 12th C. AD. In the mandapa of the temple one can see the images of the Pandavas and the defeated Kaurvas hanging from the roof of the circumambulatory path. The sanctum of the temple has been beautifully carved from wood. This temple is dedicated to snake(Nāga) worship and there are some snake idols inside.

Dalhousie is a high-altitude town spread across 5 hills near the Dhauladhar mountain range in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It's home to colonial-era buildings, including St. Francis and St. John’s churches, which date back to the rule of the British Raj in the 1800s. A trek up Dainkund Peak leads to Pholani Devi Temple. To the north, Subhash Baoli is a peaceful area with pine trees and panoramic views.

Dalhousie Dainkund Peak....Yahan Nahi gaye toh Kahan Gaye!! Himachal Pradesh???????? EP. 04
Dainkund Peak is one of the highest hilly of Dalhousie and come under Armed forces. It is almost 15 KM far from the Gandhi Chowk but to reach till the Peak you need to track for around 1.5 KM in which 0.5 KM is stairs and 1 KM is hill tracking. Very difficult to reach with small kids and old age peoples or who have breathing issue. But once you reach the Peak you will surely get the fruit of your hard work. It is so amazing to reach there and see the View Himalayan Valley.
