From Port Douglas we took a day trip in the car to Cape Tribulation. Cape Tribulation is located in the Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland, Australia. First we stopped at Mossman Gorge before heading to the crossing at Daintree River. From here it was a beautiful drive through the Daintree Rainforest up to Cape Tribulation.

Must see spots in Daintree National Park
Today we explore the beautiful Daintree National Park... the only place in the world where two world heritage sites meet. You have the rainforest that literally collides down to meet the Great Barrier Reef.
Our day begins with a walk on Cape Tribulation Beach and we cannot believe we have the entire beach to ourselves!
We go as far north as we can in the van and explore swimming holes along the creek where we meet a couple locals who share a less known swimming spot that does not disappoint!
It is amazing how few people are around as we take in the beauty of Daintree before we make our way out to the Tablelands.
Daintree is the oldest rainforest in the world and it truly is breathtaking.

We saw lots of animals on this tour including several crocodiles.

Daintree National Park, Australia
Daintree National Park is in Far North Queensland, Australia. Daintree is about 3 hours north of Cairns, 1-2 hours north of Port Douglas. It is much quieter than either Cairns or Port Douglas, owing to the distance, crossing the Daintree river (a ferry may take cars and buses across, for a toll), conservation efforts and being off the power grid. The Daintree region is currently in flux regarding conflicting demands of population and economy growth and preservation of the spectacular natural environment.
The quiet environment makes for a very pleasant, laidback tropical stay, somewhat distanced from the mass tourism of Cairns and Port Douglas although Cape Tribulation is a popular daytrip for visitors and amenities for tourists abound.
The park consists largely of broadleaf lowland tropical rainforests and upland tropical rainforests, although there are also significant mangrove and fan palm communities. The rainforest is an amazing array of biodiversity. Look out for the cassowary, a large non-flying bird with a helmet growth on its head to protect it as it runs through the forest. Of course, as with all of far northern Australia, saltwater crocodiles are present.
It's easiest to get around by car, but buses run from Cairns and Port Douglas all the way up to Cape Tribulation. Many companies offer packages of accommodation and transport to the area. Some of the hostels rent bicycles which is a pleasant way to get around Daintree Village and see the sights while you're there. The ride from Cow Bay to Cape Tribulation is about 25 km each way and a nice daytrip, although a bit hilly in the Noah Range area. The road is sealed all the way to Cape Tribualtion and all rental companies allow cars to travel as far as the Cape.
There are crocodiles in the Daintree River and other creeks in the region. Sometimes the riverbed will have a warning sign, but not everywhere. Stay away from the shore of the river and other creek beds.

6th-9th May
After Cairns, we headed North to Port Douglas and the Daintree rainforest. Due to poor weather we drove all the way through to Cape Tribulation and went sightseeing on the way back down. It was lovely to see the rainforest in the rain, however. We visited a fruit orchard for homemade ice cream and walked through the mangroves and on Cape Tribulation Beach. The next morning we went to Coconut Beach and back across the river where we took a wildlife tour with Solar Whisper to see saltwater crocodiles in the wild. Very cool!

Daintree Rainforest & the CREB 4WD Track: S05 Queensland E07 Road Trip Lap of Australia
We always wanted to head into and explore the Daintree Rainforest, and camped up at Cape Tribulation we were right amoungst it. We camped at Noah's Campground right in the Daintree National Park, visited local lookouts and took on the mighty CREB track. The CREB is a four wheel drive track taking you over the Daintree River and multiple creek crossings. The say not to do it in the wet - but we did!
