AUSTRALIA, WONDERFUL COUNTRY!
Three weeks discovering this superb country. We started in the south going across the Ocean Road from Melbourn to Adelaide stopping two days in Kangaroo Island. After that, we flew to Alice Spring to spend three days in the middle of nowhere seeing Ayers Rock and Uluru. Next stop was Darwin and Kakadu National Park seeing crocodriles and wild life in one of the wildest national park I have ever visited. Changing absolutely the landscape we visited Whitsundays Island where we were diving the Coral Barrier. And finally we spent two nights in Sidney enojoying its nightlife and admiring its beauty.GREAT trip!!!

Darwin, the tropical capital city of Australia's Northern Territory
Darwin, a small yet cosmopolitan city, is the tropical capital city of the Northern Territory. People from more than 50 nations make up its population of 110,000. It is located on the Northern Territory coast, with the Timor Sea to the west, and the Arafura Sea to the north in Indonesian waters.
Darwin has a relaxed lifestyle and unique multiculturalism, where people from over 50 different cultures live and work side by side. The regular Asian-style markets form an intrinsic part of the everyday Darwin landscape, for local residents see food, music, language, and culture from just about every Asian nation, alongside crocodile hunters, local Aboriginal artists, musicians of every genre, sports fishing operators, sunset sails, and families with children playing on the beach. Darwin's unique cosmopolitan makeup has been recognised as an multicultural icon of national significance by the Australian National Trust.
Darwin was first named in 1839 by John Lort Stokes during the third voyage of the Beagle. It was named after his former shipmate and famous naturalist Charles Darwin. Darwin's development was accelerated by the discovery of gold at Pine Creek, about 200 km south of the city in 1871. After the gold rush Darwin's growth slowed mainly due to the harsh, tropical climate, distance and poor communications with other Australian cities. The Second World War put Darwin back on the map when the town became an important base for Allied action against the Japanese in the Pacific. The road south to the railhead at Alice Springs was surfaced, putting the city in direct contact with the rest of the country.
Modern Darwin is one of Australia's most cosmopolitan cities, more open to Asia than perhaps any other Australian city. It plays an important role as the door to Australia's northern region. Natural wonders such as Kakadu, Katherine Gorge, and Litchfield are all within driving distance from the city and still contain near pre-colonial populations of crocodiles, goannas, snakes and wallabies. Today Darwin is a fast growing regional centre that has unique history, culture and adventure.
Darwin's tropical climate has two major seasons: the 'dry', from about May to October, and the 'wet', from November to April. There is also the 'build up', the time from the end of the dry, leading into the wet when the humidity rises, but the rain doesn't fall. The arrival of the wet is always a welcome break from the buildup.
Darwin is also the only Australian capital city to have come under substantial attack during a war. On 19 February 1942, Japanese planes made two major air raids on Darwin from the aircraft carrier fleet that had attacked Pearl Harbor less than 3 months earlier. These were the first of 64 air attacks sustained by the city during World War II, the last being on 12 November 1943.

Rapaport Exclusive, June 1, 2009: Katherine Jetter Collection Debuts at Couture 2009
RAPAPORT... Gemologist and jewelry designer Katherine Jetter debuted what she called the first luxury Australian opal jewelry brand during the Couture Show in Las Vegas. She used top gem-quality material for her designs, cutting stones into sleek, three-dimensional spheres of color to create modern geometric shapes and sophisticated forms. Jetters signature Daintree Rainforest Collection was inspired by the natural landscapes of Australia, where most of the world's opals are found. The collection features three central themes: A fern series, an exotic flower series and a turtle series. All pieces are available in sterling silver, or can be made to order in 18-karat white or yellow gold.
Fern-themed earrings and bracelets in the collection feature green ferns made from sparkling tsavorites scattered with opal water droplets. The petals of Jetter's exotic flowers are carved from luminous blue opal and wrapped in twisting emerald green vines, as poisonous red ruby buds peek out from the foliage. Necklaces display streams of cool aquamarine briolettes that appear to flow through dense green forest ferns. You can practically smell the humid air with the aroma of bark and moss when a turtle swims in a placid creek, with its shell reflecting shimmers of blue and gold opal as shafts of light filter through the trees, the designer's statement describes.
Jetters signature turtle represents her love for the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, and she maintains a profound passion for the preservation of earth and for protecting wildlife. Product packaging for the brand uses ecofriendly and recyclable materials. Five percent of all sales proceeds benefit rainforest conservation funds.

Springbrook has beautiful waterfalls and pools and the Natural Bridge is a must see. Lamington National Park has great rainforest walking trails and many waterfalls to see.
Cape Tribulation - Organic Fruit Farm, Travel Video
Travel Video - Cape Tribulation (pop.40)
Surrounded by National Park, Cape Trib. is a truly beautiful location. But for the locals, life can tough, no grid power, the threat of cyclones, the mad heat and the relentless rain. Only a select few make it their home.
I have organised an interview with a couple, Digby and Alison Gotts, who have been living in the rainforest for the last 12 years. They use solar panels for electricity and share there house with a multitude of forest creatures such as frogs, bats and snakes. They are virtually self sufficient with a fantastic exotic tropical fruit orchid and huge vegie patch.
The Gotts have lived at Cape Tribulation for the last 12 years. In that time they have lived through 3 cyclones.
The Gotts run exotic fruit tasting tours on their farm.

Places to Visit in Australia - Exploring the Most Interesting Sites
By [ Dutton
When you plan a vacation to a popular area of the world, you will be exploring the culture and countryside of Australia. From the animals exclusive only to this area of the world to the history offered, the many places to visit in Australia will delight you and enhance your knowledge of this beautiful country.
Kakadu National Park
Come along for the first stop, which is the Kakadu National Park. This is an area of Australia that does not matter what season in which you visit, there will always be plenty on the agenda. The range of wildlife in this area is one of the thrilling sights that will include some you may have never even heard of much less have seen. For instance, this is the natural habitat for the black wallaroo, magpie geese and chestnut-quilled rock pigeon.
Because this area of Australia is protected, the extinction of the animals has been very little, if there has been any, for over 200 years. Bandicoots, lizards, dingoes and snakes may be seen as well as many types of birds and you should always be on the lookout for the crocodile. Camping, nature trails, cruises and flights are all available here for your enjoyment of this area.
Sydney
Of course, you cannot miss Sydney on your tour of places to visit in Australia. This lively city was home to the 2000 Olympic Games and underwent a major renovation in preparation for the event. Take a cruise aboard a luxurious Catamaran. You will feel like royalty when you are pampered and provided with all the amenities the cruises afford. With entertainment and dining included, this Sydney Harbour cruise is one that is offered or you could board one of the three glass ballroom cruisers and enjoy the sights from this unique viewpoint.
Make sure and include the Chinese Garden of Friendship, the IMAX Theatre and the Sydney Aquarium on your list of places to visit in Australia. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a shopping experience you will not soon forget with 150 shops for the dedicated shopper. An international food court has 40 shops for everybody's tastes and you can find all the souvenirs you want to take home.
Red Centre
Sacred to the Aboriginal people in Australia, the red rock pillar is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset when the colors change. While basking in the culture of this area, you can enjoy sleeping under the starry skies, take a ride on a camel and gain an understanding of the aspects of the Aboriginal art as it relates to the spirit.
The Green Cauldron
The vast crater created by a volcano will be another of the most interesting sights in Australia. The rainforests that are sheltered by this huge crater are almost mystical to view. The vegetation is plentiful here and there are many rare flowers and animals that are indigenous to this area. Enjoy yourself as you have found one of the most beautiful places to visit in Australia when you enter the Green Cauldron area.
All around the crater rim you will have the pleasure of visiting the fishing villages, seeing the breath-taking waterfalls, visiting organic market gardens and meeting some of the local characters. You and your family will for sure want to guarantee you bring your camera for this unforgettable exploration.
