Mount Daisen (大山, Daisen) is a large, volcanic mountain that rises up from sea level to dominate the terrain of western Tottori Prefecture. Part of Daisen-Oki National Park, the 1729 meter high mountain is the tallest in the Chugoku Region and is included on the list of Japan's 100 famous mountains. Daisen has not erupted for several thousand years.
Around late October and early November, the maple and beech forests that cover the mountain slopes turn brilliant shades of autumn colors. One of the best places to view the leaves is from a parking lot at Kagikake-toge Pass south of the mountain (not reachable by public transportation).

Journeys in Japan - Yanai - Old Town of Goldfish Lanterns [1080p]
Yanai prospered as a port town in the Seto Inland Sea. It was one of the largest merchant cities in the region during the late 18th century. The city has a tenderly preserved district where merchants' white-plaster grand homes, built in the traditional kura storehouse style, line the street. This charming district is adorned with hanging goldfish lanterns in the summertime. There are also Yanaijima textile shops. This hand-woven cotton textile, which features stripes in indigo shades, was once hugely popular but production gradually declined in the 19th century. However, with the passion of the local people, Yanaijima was revived about 20 years ago.
Yanai City Volunteer Guide Club Volunteer guides show visitors the highlights of Yanai.
Must be booked 10 days in advance. There is also a free hiking tour that starts at 10:30 am from JR Yanai Station. No reservation is required.

The Kunimori Residence This wealthy merchant's house was built about 250 years ago and has been kept in its original state. It's a designated national important cultural property. The house is open to the public. Open from 9 am to 5 pm.

Kanro Soy Sauce Kanro soy sauce was developed as a seasoning especially for sashimi dishes. The rich sauce is fermented twice during the four years it takes to produce. Yanai's abundant groundwater and soybean cultivation made it possible to create this unique soy sauce around 230 years ago.

Yanai Nishi Gura Visit this workshop to try your hand at weaving Yanaijima cotton textiles and making the paper goldfish lanterns. Kimono rental and dressing require reservations. Open from 9 am to 5 pm, closed on Tuesdays.

Goldfish Lantern Festival This festival is held every year in August around the time of obon, when Japanese welcome their ancestors' spirits home. It is very festive with food stands, bon dancing, goldfish float performances, and fireworks.

Kasasa Fisherman's Minshuku Guesthouse Kasasajima is a small island near Yanai with only 13 residents. It is very popular with fishing tourists. For dinner, guests dine on fresh seafood caught by the guesthouse's owner.

Temple whose veranda you can monopolize – Kurayoshi City Tottori
Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto is a great temple famous for its large veranda, supported by tall pillars, that juts out over the hillside.
I suppose the people who visited the temple were eager to monopolize Kiyomizu-dera’s large veranda.
But it is impossible because Kiyomizu-dera’s large veranda is always full of many visitors.
By the way, do you know that Kurayoshi City in Tottori Prefecture has a unique temple whose structure is, as it were, a mini-Kiyomizu-dera?
That is Hase-dera Temple which has a medium-size veranda you can monopolize. Only sophisticated travelers visit Hase-dera Temple situated in the west of Mt. Utsubuki.
A week around 1st December is the best period to see the coloured leaves in and around Hase-dera Temple. I strongly recommend you to prepare to fly to Kurayoshi just now!
