Da Jia Jenn Lann Temple
Located in central Taiwan's Taichung, Da Jia Jenn Lann Temple was built in the 35th year of Chien Long, Chin dynasty. With over 200 years of history, the temple is not only a religious center in Taichung, but is also one of the most distinctive Mazu Culture Temples. Detailed carvings can be seen everywhere inside the temple from the wood, stones, and temple beams. The most striking visual is the caisson which is located at the top of the main hall. When you enter Jenn Lann temple, it's as if you're walking into an art palace. It reveals a wave of majestic Chinese traditional architecture.
Over the years, many faithful believers pray to Mazu for wishes to come true, and in return, the believers show their appreciation by presenting gold medals to Mazu. As years go by, the gold medals have accumulated to millions, thus, Jenn Lann temple melted these gold medals and built a gold Mazu for the faithful to give their prayers to.

Dajia Jenn Lann Temple,

Baosheng Cultural Festival shows eco-consciousness and spurns air pollution
Taking good care of the environment is starting to become a priority in Taiwan''s folk temples. Taichung''s Dajia Jenn Lann Temple began its Matsu pilgrimage on April 13, but the constant noise and air pollution associated with the tradition have met with criticism. Meanwhile in Taipei, Baoan Temple is planning a clean, green pilgrimage without air pollution, which will begin tomorrow. Dajia Jenn Lann Temple recently began its nine-day, eight-night Matsu pilgrimage. Believers will crowd the route of the pilgrimage to enjoy the firecrackers and fireworks being set off. Yet, more and more people are unhappy about the noise and air pollution created by temple activities. Taipei Baoan Temple’s three-month long Baosheng Cultural Festival is set to begin on April 20. The temple announced a new tone to this year’s festivities: the Baosheng Emperor will inspect the vicinity of his temple in an eco-conscious manner.Liao Wu-jyhBaoan Temple PresidentFirecrackers cause air pollution, which is not good for our bodies. So, I hope that we can have a clean pilgrimage this year where we won’t set off firecrackers. Baoan Temple is the first in Taipei City to forego firecrackers during its pilgrimage. But it’s doing more than just going green. The temple has also put a lot of thought into planning the parade - which will be held for the first time in three years, inviting traditional artists from across Taiwan to bring color to the parade, and show off never-before-seen dances sure to bring a breath of fresh air to the proceedings.

STORY: Thousands of worshippers flocked to a temple in central Taiwan on Friday (April 8) to send the palanquin off on a nine-day journey in honour of Taiwan's popular goddess Mazu.
Pilgrims, holding up incenses, gathered at public square in front on Jenn Lann Temple in Taichung city while performers dressed up as Taoist deities were walking among the crowd.
The procession will stretch about 300 kilometres through the region of central Taiwan.
At 23:00 local time (16:00GMT) a group of trumpet players heralded the departure of goddess Mazu's palanquin from within the temple, causing excitement among the participants who rushed forward to touch the palanquin - a carriage holding the goddess carried by several bearers - for good luck.
While many participants come each year to take part in what is one of the biggest processions of its kind, it was the first time for Hsu Kuo-wei and Tai Miao-ru. They hoped for Mazu to grant them wishes.
We are participating for the first time. We came down from Taipei to Dajia District in Taichung to take part in this year's procession. The main reason for us to come here is to pray for the health of our families and also to implore (Mazu) for Taiwan's fortune, Hsu Kuo-wei said.
In recent years the number of participants in the starting ceremony of the procession has been measured at more than 10,000, as reported by local media.
The ceremony takes place on the eve of the first day of walking. After that, pilgrims walk for three days without stopping before reaching Singang, the most southern point of the journey.
Chang Chun-wei is an experienced participant and knows that the days ahead will not be easy.
After Mazu's palanquin joined the endless flow of pilgrims, worshippers dressed as deities and trucks with dance performers on the back, the crowd slowly dispersed. But not without first setting of more firecrackers and gazing at performers doing the lion dance.
