Dakeng Park Hike, Taichung

Here's a video showing what the hike is like is Dakeng, Taichung. We did trails 1 & 2. Before the hike, our school ran the church service for a church in a hospital in Taichung, so you'll see a few bits of performances from that as well.

Dakeng Hiking Trails

Easy hike but most of the steep parts of the trails are equipped with staircases made of logs. Those logs are widely apart that can accidentally put your leg in between and break your bone. So be careful and pay attention on your steps.

Dakeng Scenic area 大坑風景區 contains most of the mountain region of Beitun District, Taichung, Taiwan.It is located at the starting point of the Central Cross-Island Highway, 48 kilometers from Fengyuan. You can view the whole Taichung when you're in the highest peak of the mountain. A total of 10 hiking trails exist. 6-10 trails are on the western part of Dakeng, closer to the city and better served by public buses. Train 1-5 is located Eastern part on the main ridge of Touke Mountain and connects the tops of each of the previous trails. It is an area of picturesque hills criss-crossed by a network of hiking trails which are popular with locals. At weekends, parts of Dakeng Scenic Area can get very busy. I saw old locals spent tea dates with fellow old friends in every pavilion up to the mountains. Local are so nice that they even give is at bottle of tea when we are run out of water in or way up to Trail #5 . There are lots of monkeys here in this area. You can spot them usually in trail #1&2. Some of the trails are close due to reconstruction. The trail paths are so narrowed and you need to stop and give way to other hiker you meet. Actually there is nothing special in this mountain but the logs Stairway.
You can set tent on Trail #4 and 10. They will charge you NT$60 per night. And you can used all the facilities in that area. You can rent tents and other camping accessories there if you don't have one.

How to get there:
You can start in Fengyuan Train Station or Taichung Train Station. It is very easy to transport on this area since it is just so near from the city.
From Taichung Train Station to reach trails 9 & 10. You can take bus #1, 15, 16, 20, 21, 31, 51, 66, 68, 85 , 270, 271, 276 just outside from the Train Station on the right side if Tourist Service Center then Stop at Taipower Dongshan Service 台電東山所.
Transfer Bus #66 up to Trail 1-5. You can get off at Trail #2 or Trail #4 Trailhead as you can reverse traverse the the Trails from 2-4 or vice versa. Just be sure to be back to the bus stop before 5:00 pm. Last trip is 5:00-5:40 pm on weekends and more earlier during weekdays.

Our hike up snow mountain got cancelled due to a typhoon warning, so we took the dogs hiking in Dakeng instead.

Dakeng Snow

Went to Dakeng (1/24/16 or 24/1/16) since I heard that there was some snow and had some small snow flurries but that was it but it was great seeing some snow again after having not seen any for a few years now.
