Boat passes through Nehru Garden, Floating Market, Village, Vegetable Farms, Lotus Farm, House Boats, and Meena Bazaar. The ride takes at least 1 hour and really very enjoyable.

Dal lake is mentioned as Mahasarit (Sanskrti-महासरित्) in ancient Sanskrit texts. Ancient history records mention that a village named Isabar to the east of Dal Lake was the residence of goddess Durga. This place was known as Sureshwari on the bank of the lake, which was sourced by a spring called the Satadhara.
During the Mughal period, the Mughal rulers of India designated Kashmir, Srinagar in particular, as their summer resort. They developed the precincts of the Dal lake in Srinagar with sprawling Mughal-type gardens and pavilions as pleasure resorts to enjoy the salubrious cool climate. After the death of Aurangzeb in 1707, which led to the disintegration of the Mughal Empire, Pashtun tribes in the area around the lake and city increased, and the Durrani Empire ruled the city for several decades.In 1814 a significant part of the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, was annexed by Raja Ranjit Singh to his kingdom, and the Sikhs grew in influence in the region for 27 years.

It's a stunning location famous for it's houseboats and colourful ashikaras to travel on to the various floating vegetable markets and small islands.

Nageen Lake, Dal Lake, Srinagar, India: The Western part of the Dal Lake is known as Nageen Lake or Nagin Lake. This portion of the Dal Lake is considered to be the most beautiful part of Dal Lake. Leading from the Dal is the smaller Nageen Lake. Nageen Lake, which is usually thought of as a separate lake, is also divided from Dal Lake only by a causeway. The causeways are mostly suitable for walkers and bicycles only so they make a very pleasant way of seeing the lake without having to worry about traffic or Shikaras. The main causeway across the lake carries the water pipeline for Srinagar's mains water supply.

Boulevard Road, Dal Lake, Srinagar, Kashmir, India: The most prestigious road in Srinagar, Kashmir, India is the Boulevard Road which lies entirely on the banks of Dal Lake, Srinagar, Kashmir, India. The road is also connected to the Foreshore Road. While driving across the road it provides glances of beauty of Dal Lake and in hot summers people rest on roadside and feel the cool breeze of Dal Lake and enjoy the charming sunset from the horizon. Majority of renowned hotels at Srinagar like Hotel Duke, Hotel Imperial Lake View, Hotel Paradise, Hotel Zabarban, Hotel Parimahal to name a few are situated by the Boulevard road. Most of the tourist prefer to stay at a hotel located by the Boulevard Road and that is why the room rent of the hotels here is slightly higher. Due to this fact outnumbered tourists can be seen on the Boulevard Road. The Boulevard road is strictly maintained by Government of Jammu and Kashmir regularly.

The urban lake, which is the second largest in the union territory, is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is named the Lake of Flowers, Jewel in the crown of Kashmir or Srinagar's Jewel.
The lake is also an important source for commercial operations in fishing and water plant harvesting.
The shore line of the lake, about 15.5 kilometres (9.6 mi), is encompassed by a boulevard lined with Mughal era gardens, parks, houseboats and hotels.
Scenic views of the lake can be witnessed from the shore line Mughal gardens, such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir and from houseboats cruising along the lake in the colourful shikaras.

Dal is a lake in Srinagar (Dal Lake is a misnomer as Dal in Kashmiri means lake), the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The urban lake, which is the second largest in the state, is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is named the Jewel in the crown of Kashmir or Srinagar's Jewel. The lake is also an important source for commercial operations in fishing and water plant harvesting.

An early morning ride to the popular floating vegetable (and floral) market in Dal Lake interiors, Srinagar.
Sringar's Dal Lake is famous the world over for its scenic location, for its shikaras (boats) that float on it and for the promotion of aqua sports like water skiing. The Dal Lake is also famous for its 'floating vegetable market', the only one of its kind in India and only the second in the world, the other being the rowing shops along the backwaters of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam.
Floating vegetable vendors are a prime tourist attraction in the Kashmir Valley, and this is reflected in the sales and annual turnover, estimated to be in the range of Rs. 35 crores. There are no permanent shops on the lake. The floating market first attracted international attention in 1960, when a Japanese photographer featured it in a tourist guide that was published out of Japan.
Around 10,000 kanals (around 1,250 acres) of land along the Dal Lake is being used for the cultivation of vegetables, This is a very old market where the sale and the purchase of vegetables take place between 5 am. and to 7 am. everyday. Most of the vegetables are grown on the lakeside and retrieved from the lake before being sold in just 2 hours. Any vegetables left over are taken to street markets. This market is famous. Many tourists come here just to take photographs of it. Dal Lake is home to vast stretches of lotus plant. Lotus flowers not only balance the wetland ecosystem, but also lend a special kind of beauty to the lake.

Kashmir houseboats are usually moored at the edges of the Dal Lake and Nageen lakes. Some of the houseboats there were built in the early 1900s, and are still being rented out to tourists. These houseboats are made of wood, and usually have intricately carved wood paneling. The houseboats are of different sizes, some having up to three bedrooms apart from a living room and kitchen.
