Rosedale Ramble - September 2017
Link to activity:
A superb introduction to Rosedale's famous singletrack. I saw this route on the Muddy Bums website and had to ride it, so thanks guys.
I've altered it only slightly, to bring in some more technical singletrack. It starts with a tarmac climb, before a gentle ride along the ironstone railway, that soon turns into a technical singletrack, with rock gardens, twists and drops. Crossing the moor again, the technical nature continues, requiring skill in balance, line and pedal power. A fast, swooping ride across Danby Moor Estate leads to more tarmac, before a final singletrack descent back to Rosedale.
The technical nature of parts of this route make it a hard ride, so don't underestimate it.

Rosedale Abbey is a village in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-west from Pickering, 8 miles south-east from Castleton, and within Rosedale, part of the North York Moors National Park.
The North York Moors is a national park in North Yorkshire, England, containing one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the United Kingdom. It covers an area of 554 sq mi (1,430 km2), and has a population of 23,380. The North York Moors became a National Park in 1952, through the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949.
Many visitors to the moors are engaged in outdoor pursuits, particularly walking; the park has a network of rights-of-way almost 2,300 km (1,400 miles) in length, and most of the areas of open moorland are open access under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. Popular named walks include the Cleveland Way, which circles the moors, and has a section along the coast; and the Lyke Wake Walk, which leads directly across the heart of the moors. The route of the White Rose Way, a long distance walk from Leeds to Scarborough, North Yorkshire also passes through. The area also offers opportunities for cycling, mountain biking, and horse-riding, including a circular long distance bridle route created around the North York Moors which can be accessed at a number of locations. The steep escarpments that define the edges of the park on three sides are used by several gliding clubs.

Got up really early with my man Tom Gentry to go sun-rise hunting on the Moors...bit disheartened at first but sure enough our lovely star looked past the clouds and painted everything in gold. Woaah, so beautiful!
After a dry, dry, dry breakfast of Quorn bacon in bread, I went over to Pickering to meet up with the Gents for a day of wicked training and warm-up for our Holland adventure next week...oh lordy.
Plus, we were treated to Elliot's rare talent - register taking...
