Did you know the top 3 world record smallmouth bass have all been caught at Dale Hollow Lake? Thomas Weaver, Horse Creek Dock & Resort manager, tells the story of how David L. Hayes caught his 11-pound, 15-ounce world record fish while trolling July 9, 1955! Weaver highlights the great opportunity visitors have to recreate and catch trophy fish at the well-known smallmouth lake and fishery straddling the border of Kentucky and Tennessee! The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District operates the lake and maintains its recreation and camping facilities. (USACE Video by Leon Roberts)

Dale Hollow Lake encompasses many communities in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. These towns range from Celina, Tennessee to Byrdstown, Tennessee and much more!

While we camped at Obey River Campground in Monroe, Tennessee we took an opportunity to visit the National Fish Hatchery. This was free of charge and an effortless opportunity to see what is available and what efforts are made to raise the Trout population.

Finally had a decent day on Dale Hollow after finding some clear water

Made a trip to the lower end of Dale Hollow and finally caught some fish. We went on the hunt of some clean water and didnt catch alot of fish but did manage to boat a couple good ones. The water is 2 to 3 degrees colder on that end so they were definitely in the early prespawn. Had to catch them pretty deep.

Dale Hollow smallmouth bass only wanted the a-rig on this fall trip...and I hate the a-rig!

When Scott says, I'm heading to Dale Hollow, do you want..., I am usually already packing before he actually finishes his invitation. Fall and smallmouth bass is just a combination that I can't resist! It was predicted to be cold and rainy weather, but ended up 75 degrees, sunny and gorgeous. The bite was really slow, but we each got a few nice fish. After seeing the terrible tournament results for that day, we realized we did really well! I hate throwing the a-rig, and that was the only somewhat consistent bite, so Scott definitely won this round! I kept saying that if he could catch them on the a-rig, then I could find something I enjoy throwing more that they will also bite on... but my plan mostly failed. I guess I need to stop being so stubborn and learn the art of the soft plastic swimbait!

Night fishing is a necessity on Dale Hollow in the summer!

We went out the night after we caught nearly 20lbs of largemouth and smallmouth on Dale Hollow to see if we could have a night like that 2 days in a row. This time we brought Ed along and though we didnt match the night before, we did manage a 4lb smallmouth and a 4# 6oz largemouth along with a couple 3s. The 2lbers seemed to be out and we caught several of those. We ended up with 13 decent fish and it was a very enjoyable night.

February Post Cold Front Bass Fishing on Dale Hollow Lake

Fished Saturday and half day Sunday February 2 and 3rd after strongest cold front of the winter. The fishing was slow but did better than expected

Day 3 of my vacation the week of the 4th didnt disappoint not a ton of fish but quality. all fish were caught on Octostinger hooks from Hookers Terminal Tackle check them out for your catfish bass needs. I use the 1/0 Octostinger hook and the walleyes stay stuck on them. Thanks James N. Arwood for the quality hook you produce.
