20-year-old Chinese girl rises to fame for feeding #wolves
A recent video has gone viral on Chinese social media, in which a young girl is feeding eight wolves while playing with them, making the girl the latest online celebrity in China and sparking a heated discussion among Chinese netizens.
Wolves are usually thought to be a threat to human beings, but in the video, the girl, Zhou Xinyue, feeds wolves even by her mouth and plays with them as if they are huge pet dogs.
Some Chinese netizens wrote that they admired Zhou’s intimacy with the wolves, while others questioned the safety behind such intimacy. Some also raised concerns as to whether such intimacy could make wolves lose their wild behaviors.
Zhou, 20, has fed wolves for four years in Fushun in Northeast China’s Liaoning province. She said she has liked canine animals ever since she was a kid. Four years ago, she came to her uncle to help him feed his four wolves.
“At first, I was afraid. But after frequent contact with them, I found them to be cute and docile,” Zhou said.
Now, Zhou continues her wolf breeding work at an ecotourism spot in North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. She gets up at 7 o’clock each morning to prepare food for her beloved eight wolves.
“Each feeding takes about an hour as the wolves are naughty and I have to discipline them first,” Zhou said playfully, because they often compete for food. When they are eating, she will keep close watch on them and give more food to those that fail in the food competition.
Other girls at Zhou’s age often go out shopping or enjoy parties, but Zhou spends all day attending to wolves. She said she cannot leave them behind and said that they bringing her great happiness.
Moreover, Zhou never carries any protective tools with her to prevent attacks from the wolves. She said she treats them like family members and believes that her dear wolves will not hurt her. However, to avoid unintentional scratches caused by their sharp paws, Zhou often wears thick, heavy traditional Mongolian clothes when feeding them.

TRANSCRIPT:
Good morning, fellow adventurers today is 94 and we are in Dalian, China and it is so cold.
Dalian is a young city for China because it's only 100 years old.
At the end of the 1800's, the Russian and Japanese colonists had visions of establishing a city of their own on this land. Russian architects that were fascinated with the French culture came to Dalian with the construction blueprint of plans to build elegant squares and put artwork, beautiful fountains, and parks. This formed the plan for the city of Dalian.
So the cold and stormy weather that we experienced in Beijing was also here in Dalian. We got off the ship to explore the city and found it to be so beautiful, full of squares, walking streets, awesome architecture, and a very livable seaport city.
We happened upon an underground shopping center while crossing under the road due to traffic. One thing I'd like to mention about traffic in China is that there is a protocol.
Basically the right away is given first to trucks, then to cars, then to motorcycles, and last but not least, pedestrians. So watch out pedestrians because you will get hit if you are expecting to be given the right of way.
Anyhow, after we'd gone under the street, we found this huge shopping mall that was underground and it was four stories deep and one mile long. It was so cold outside that we had lots of fun looking at the stores and decided we would stay a while to see what this underground shopping center was like.
Now this is not that uncommon to see in Europe and in Asia, but we didn't expect to see it in this new city of Dalian. You can see one store front that said Bad Dad (and Larry and Nick) we took a funny picture of them and also of Alexandra in front of the Mexican store front.
We also tried this ice fruit dessert. It's kind of like a snow cone made with real fruit, a little bit of milk and some sugar. They freeze this and then they shave the ice off of this to make a great little treat.
Here they're making soup. You get a bowl with a hot plate and there's a conveyor belt filled with all kinds of foods, meats, vegetables, everything. It's very interesting.
The next day we went on a tour to a prison. In the next town over, called Lushun. On the way there, we saw this soccer stadium and it turns out that Dalian has the number one soccer team in China. It's sort of like an oriental Brazil and the Chinese are huge soccer fans as well.
There was this prison in this town that was built by the Russians in 1902 and over the years Lushun had a port that was strategically very important to the Russians. There was a long history of military conflicts and hostile occupation, not only by the Russians, but also the Japanese. This prison showed us how the horrors of war took place there from torture to reeducation or brainwashing of the prisoners, to making them make products for the war effort. In addition, there were gallows and many prisoners were hung. In fact, whatever happened there, even though it was cold and really bad conditions don't get sick because if you did become very sick, you would also be killed.
There was a war between the Russians and the Japanese during this period of time, and then at a certain point, Japan had taken over many parts of China, including not only Lushun, but also Dalian and going down to Beijing, etc. The japanese also use this prison as well.
We had a great time in Dalian, but I'm extremely excited because I have never been to Japan before and we are going to spend several days there.
In closing, my wish for you is that you will love abundantly, protect your health, and be adventurous for life. You are beautiful. Let your light shine, Aloha!
