Sailing the Dalmatian Islands :: Bareboat Charter In Croatia :: Part 1
We made it to Europe and have been here or several weeks. Between not having reliable internet connection and the passing of our cat after our arrival, we have not been uploading videos. We got to Croatia after 2 weeks of being in Europe and got a chance to sail the Adriatic sea. Thanks for Orvas Yachting of Split, Croatia for providing us with a week long charter on one of their sailboats.

Our itinerary:
Dreaming of clear water, a place full of history, and wine and food to die for, then make your way to Croatia.
This 8 day trip was full of history, natural wonders and great food and wine. We flew through London-Heathrow to get to Split, Croatia (there are way more airline options for Split than you would think) and then spent the next 6 days exploring the area by sea.
Day 1: BRAC - Veliki Drvenik (Blue Lagoon), Osibuva, Milna
Day 2: VIS - Ravnik (Green Cave), Rogacic (submarine tunnel)
Day 3: VIS - Bisevo (Blue Cave), Komiza
Day 4: HVAR - Stari Grad, Fortica (castle)
Day 5: BRAC/SOLTA - Zlatni Rat (Bol), Maslinca (wine tasting)
Day 6: SPLIT - Trogir (castle), Krka (water falls)
There are hundreds of places to see but we selected what we think are some of the best spots for our first trip. We had some great experiences during the trip thanks to:
Wine Tasting and Degustation on Solta: Agroturizam Kastelanac -
Tour of the Blue Cave FROM Komiza, Vi: Alternatura Tourist Agency -
Scooter Rental in Stari Grad: Park Scooter Rental - +385 91 536 6108
We drove our way out to Hvar Town to see the Fortica
Things here are done a little differently than in the Caribbean.. So here’s a few suggestions for your vacation.
1 - The more hands the better. We suggest at least 3 people onboard to help with the advanced level anchoring and docking.
2 - Arrive by 3pm in the harbours with town quays to ensure your spot. It will cost you $80-100 USD for a monohull. But it’s more convenient than anchoring or picking up a mooring in another bay. Reservations can be made for the Marinas, but they are more expensive.
3- There are plenty of places to eat with REALLY good food and it’s affordable. So enjoy the local food and don’t plan to eat aboard for dinner.
4 - Make sure you bring plenty of cash and exchange it into Kuna - preferably before you get to Split. Most places don’t except Euros (yes, they are part of the EU - but they have their own currency) and there are lots of places that only except cash. There are ATMs available in most cities and at The Moorings Base, but you’ll be charged a transaction fee by your bank. NOTE: Town quays can only be paid for with cash.
Sailing in Croatia: An Adriatic Adventure
The ancient Greeks, Romans, and Illyrians sailed these waters in pursuit of treasure and triumph. On a very special afternoon coordinated by Dalmatia Charter in Trogir, my wife and I followed in the footsteps of these great civilizations and sailed the Adriatic along the coast of Croatia.
Hosted aboard the Jonathan III, a vessel driven by a team of champion regatta racers, Tricia and I witnessed two beautiful dolphins, a fraction of Croatia's 1000 stunning islands, and a sunset without comparison. It was an adventure of a lifetime!
Thank you to our good friends Robert, Marin, Darko and Sanja, and of course, Ivica, for making it such an amazing day.

Beyond sailing: The Highlight on your Dalmatian Charter Cruise
Many sailing enthusiasts start their trips from Split: The island Hvar is a very beautiful sailing destination close to Split in Croatia that you can easily reach by yacht. Hvar is the fourth biggest island at the Adriatic Coast and counts to one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. With about 70 km length it is also the longest island in Croatia. Moreover, with around 3000 sunshine hours the island ranks among the sunniest islands of Croatia and ensures carefree sailing holidays.
Trogir, Croatia
On our way to Plitvice National Park, we stopped by the City of Trogir, one of the oldest cities on the Croatian side of Adriatic coast. The entire Old Trogir city core is under protection of UNESCO world heritage.

A visit to Charter Company Ultra Sailing in Split
Ultra sailing is a yacht charter company from Croatia with various bases along the Croatian Coast: We visited their charter bases in Split and Trogir which are both close to the airport near Split. The airport is only 23 km away from the ACI Marina in Split and even less than 10 km from the ACI Marina in Trogir.
