The Northern Heat Report - Sentier Nepisiguit Mi'gmaq trail
On this edition of the Northern Heat report we drove up to Governors Wilderness Resort at Popple Depot. If anyone hasn’t had the opportunity to visit this place, it’s a must see for the region. Situated right on the majestic Nepisiguit River and nestled in the forest this log cabin resort is a sight to see. We had the opportunity to catch up with Chief David Peter-Paul of Pabineau First Nation and Rod O’Connell, president of the Sentier Nepisiguit Mi'gmaq Trail. Yesterday the group of volunteers, who have been cutting the trail for the last number of years, finally cut the last meter to finally connect the trail system from the base of Mount Carleton Provincial Park all the way to Daly Point Nature Reserve in East Bathurst. This Trail is something else, it runs approx.. 150 km alongside the Nepisiguit River, all the way to Mt. Carleton, where is connects to the Appalachian trail which will bring you all the way down into the state of Georgia.

The Great Beluga Rescue
The story of The Great Beluga Response!
We are incredibly happy to have safely returned the young male beluga to the St. Lawrence River. Last time the animal was seen, it was with 3 other juvenile belugas! This was an enormous collaborative effort and we fell very fortunate to work with such an incredible and talented team of experts from Canada and the US!
There was a particularly special moment when Elder Gilbert Sewell of the Pabineau First Nation offered a prayer for the safe removal of the whale and the safety of all the people involved. Everyone was very moved, as was the whale who came over to listen as well!
Huge shout out to all the people involved who helped make this response a success:
Groupe de recherche et d'éducation sur les mammifères marins - GREMM, Maritime Marine Animal Response Network, Urgences Mammifères Marins, Fisheries and Oceans Canada personnel in Quebec and Gulf Regions,Faculte de medecine veterinaire - Universite de Montreal, Shedd Aquarium, Vancouver Aquarium, Bathurst Fire Department, Robertville Fire Department and St. Anne Regional Fire Department, Parks Canada, Transport and Infrastructure in Canada, Whale Stewardship Project, Port de Gros-Cacouna, Arrimage Quebec, Rivière-du-Loup and Bathurst Airports, Chrono Aviation, Police services of Bathurst and Rivière-du-Loup, Centre de remorques usagées du Québec and the many, many volunteers!

New Brunswick
New Brunswick (French: Nouveau-Brunswick; pronounced: [nu.vo.bʁœn.swik], Quebec French pronunciation: [nu.vo.bʁɔn.zwɪk] ( )) is one of Canada's three Maritime provinces and is the only province in the Canadian federation that is constitutionally bilingual (English–French). It was created as a result of the partitioning of the British Colony of Nova Scotia in 1784. Fredericton is the capital and Saint John is the most populous city. Greater Moncton (Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview) forms the province's largest census metropolitan area. In the 2011 nation wide census, Statistics Canada estimated the provincial population to have been 751,171. The majority of the population is English-speaking, but there is also a large Francophone minority (33%), chiefly of Acadian origin.
