Daly Waters Pub Caravan Park
192. The Daly Waters Caravan Park is located at the famous Daly Waters Pub in the Northern Territory. It is close to the highway and approx halfway from the Three Ways to Darwin.
There is a pool at the caravan park which is very handy on those hot outback days.
Whilst there, try their great Barra Burgers.
The park is pet friendly.
I had reasonable Telstra coverage.
Cost to stay is $32 for a powered site or $20 for unpowered.
We didn't stay but visited on 16th July 2016 and 25th May 2017 when this video was taken.

The name Daly Waters was given to a series of natural springs by John McDouall Stuart during his third attempt to cross Australia from south to north, in 1861-2. Stuart named the springs after the new Governor of South Australia, Sir Dominick Daly.
Stuart's first attempt, in 1860, had reached Tennant Creek. The second, in early 1861, pushed further north but again Stuart turned back. The third journey left Adelaide in October 1861 and reached Daly Waters on 28 May. The party had been pushing through difficult lancewood scrub and harsh terrain at a little over a kilometre a day. This journey was successful, reaching the north coast near modern Darwin on 24 July 1862. Stuart's Tree has an 'S' carved into it by Stuart during his journey.
The Overland Telegraph Line reached Daly Waters from the north in June 1872 and for two months a 'pony express' carried messages the 421 km to Tennant Creek via Renner Springs, Northern Territory.
Daly Waters Airfield was a centre for the London to Sydney air race of 1926, a refuelling stop for early Qantas flights to Singapore, a World War II Airforce base and more recently an operational base for joint military manoeuvres. Although the aerodrome was closed to commercial traffic in 1965 the original Qantas hangar still stands, housing exhibits of photographs and equipment from the area's aviation past.
The traditional owners of the area became the fourth Indigenous group in the Northern Territory to gain native title over both the townsite and ten surrounding pastoral leases covering an area of 30,000 square kilometres (11,583 sq mi). The Australian Federal Court had a special ceremonial sitting on nearby Newcastle Waters Station to commemorate the occasion.

Daly Waters Historical Pub
Daly Waters Historic Pub......Anyone visiting the Territory MUST stop here!
The pub was built in 1930 by Bill and Henrietta Pierce. In the past the pub has witnessed murders, shoot outs in the main street, cattle stampeding through town and the odd drunken brawls. Station owners threatened to burn the place down or buy it and bulldoze it to stop the local ringers from riding into town, hence the old bath tub & rail to hitch your horse onto.
Today the only shoot out is at the bar during Happy Hour and the only brawling done is between the gangs of Happy Jacks (local birds). Often late at night if alone in the bar you can feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Heavy objects sometimes go flying in the kitchen and it is not the chef. It’s believe it is Sarah a lady who was murdered here by her husband but he got away with it because he reckoned she was having an affair with the gardener. Many years ago the postmaster was knocked off and his takings stolen the suspect moved from the area and committed suicide many years later.

Daly Waters (16°15′12″S 133°22′09″E, 212 metres above sea level) is a small town in the Northern Territory in Australia, about 620 kilometres south of Darwin and three kilometres west of the Stuart Highway.
The area's traditional owners, the Jingili people, believe the Dreaming tracks of the Emu and the Sun travelled through here on their way to the southern parts of the Northern Territory.
Decorated with business cards, bras, banknotes and memorabilia from passing travellers, this pub claims to be the oldest in the Territory (its liquor licence has been valid since 1893). Beside the pub is a dustbowl camping ground with a bit of shade – book ahead or arrive early to secure a powered site. Accommodation ranges from basic dongas (small, transportable buildings) to spacious self-contained cabins.

Daly Waters
Daly Waters
Daly Waters was an important staging post in the early days of aviation. Planes that went overseas to the north from Melbourne had to stop here to refuel. Interesting that a few years later our bomber aircraft were based here to bomb countries to the north.
There’s little doubt that it is dead unfortunately. However there is a plaque which reads: “The explorer John McDouall Stuart is presumed to have carved the initial S on this tree on 23 May 1862 during his successful journey from Adelaide to Darwin 1861-62. Erected by the Northern Territory Forces in 1944.” Today you have to look very carefully and you can see a vague “S” on the eastern side of the tree. How anyone found this tree in the middle of the bush is beyond us. There was no icon of any type back then. Amazing that it is still there though.
The Daly Waters’ Pub is one of the Territory’s most famous watering holes. One of the oldest buildings in the Northern Territory, the pub is a quirky place clad in corrugated iron and crammed with decades of memorabilia.
