Dan Ingalls Overlook at Warm Springs, Virginia
The Dan Ingalls Overlook is located in Bath County, Virginia, just east of the community of Warm Springs, at a gap where scenic Hwy 39 crosses over Warm Springs Mountain. The overlook is situated at about 2900 feet above sea level, and offers a stunning view over eastern Bath County and into parts of neighboring Rockbridge and Alleghany Counties, and possibly beyond. The overlook parking also serves as the gateway to the Warms Springs Mountain Preserve, a Nature Conservancy Property with some nice hiking trails and additional views, although the highway overlook offers the best, most unobstructed view point. Some of the main features visible from the overlook include Panther Gap at Mill Mountain, Jump Mountain, Little Mare Mountain, White Rock Mountain, Rough Ridge, and Big House Mountain. Dan Ingalls Scenic Overlook on Rt 39 Near Goshen, Va
Recorded 8/2/08. You can see for miles atop this mountaintop peak along Rt 39 near Goshen, Va. I was stunned to see, of all things, tour busses trying to navigate this windy, twisted country mountain road, and I even saw two car-carriers. I thought that was REALLY odd. Why on earth would a driver choose this route to haul six or seven new cars? A tour bus is shown in the video.

Hidden Valley is a small flat along the Jackson River, well off the beaten path in a remote area of Bath County near the town of Warm Springs, in western Virginia. The little valley is nestled between Back Creek Mountain to the west, and Little Mountain and Cobbler Mountain to the east. There are a couple of primitive campgrounds and some hiking trails in the area. This short visit was just an introduction to the area, riding through and enjoying the beautiful countryside and awesome views. Thanks for watching!

Roaring Run Virginia
Travel Writer Nancy D. Brown, shares things to see & do in Virginia's Blue Ridge with a family-friendly hike to Roaring Run falls in Botetourt County, Virginia and a stop at a 19th century iron furnace, listed on the National Register.
Roaring Run Falls and Furnace at Eagle Rock, Virginia
The Roaring Run Historic Site is located in the Jefferson National Forest, in western Botetourt County, near the community of Strom and the town of Eagle Rock. The area features an easy loop hike with several nice waterfalls along Roaring Run, as well as a scenic overlook and the ruins of a 19th Century furnace used to manufacture pig iron. The Roaring Run Furnace is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. The Roaring Run day use area is connected to other longer hiking trails via the Hoop Hole Trail, offering extended hiking or backpacking treks. The family friendly area also contains toilets and a picnic area.
On this very rainy day, I started at the picnic area and hiked the Streamside Trail along the Roaring Run creek, passing several nice waterfalls and cascades. The trail crosses the creek several times on charming stone and wooden bridges. Hikers will also see interesting rock formations, including some high rock walls in the narrow gorge. The only significant elevation gain is found on the spur trail leading to the main Roaring Run Falls. The recent heavy rains swelled the creek and the falls were running nicely. After visiting the falls, I hiked the Woodland Trail through some beautiful wooded areas with Mountain Laurel about to bloom. The Woodland Trail features a scenic overlook with views of Shoemaker Knob and Iron Ore Knob. Also along this trail is the historic furnace. The Woodland Trail crosses Roaring Run once more before arriving back to the parking area.

What Appalachian Trail hikers LOVE about Virginia
We asked dozens of thru-hikers at the Appalachian Trail Days Festival in Damascus what they LOVE about Virginia’s 500+ miles of the AT. Grayson Highlands, McAfee Knob, and Shenandoah National Park were at the top of the list, but that’s not all.
