Among the earliest Christian civilizations, it’s defined by religious sites including the Greco-Roman Temple of Garni and 4th-century Etchmiadzin Cathedral, headquarters of the Armenian Church. Khor Virap Monastery is a pilgrimage site near Mount Ararat, a dormant volcano just across the border in Turkey.

The Republic Square gets especially crowdy in the evenings, particularly within the period between early spring and late fall. It’s during this time period that the singing fountains, initially designed by engineer and scientist Abram Abramyan, operate and perform a light show right in front of the Art Gallery and History Museum. The program features classical music, contemporary jazz, pop and rock.
The Show usually starts at 9 pm or 10 pm and lasts until 11 pm. Both the fountains and their colors change according to the rhythm of the song or the music played. The water streams, in their turn, change their shapes. The show is really entertaining and absolutely worth to be visited.

INCREDIBLE fountains Singing Fountains Yerevan -capital of Armenia Republic Square:2019
The pre-Soviet square was designed by Boris Mehrabyan (Megrabov) in his 1906-11 general plan of Yerevan. In 2003 the square was renovated and extensive excavations took place at the square. An older layer—from the 18th-19th centuries—was uncovered.
The current square was designed by Alexander Tamanian within his 1924 general plan of Yerevan. The construction of the square started in 1926, when the Government House began. It was developed until the 1950s when the rest of the five buildings were constructed and finally completed in 1977, when the National Gallery was built. The square was named Lenin Square (Armenian: Լենինի հրապարակ, Lenini hraparak; Russian: площадь Ленина ploshchad’ Lenina) for Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin, whose statue was erected in the square in 1940 and dismantlement in 1991, prior to the independence of Armenia.
Why locals love it
Republic Square is the most crowded part of the city centre in summers both during daytime and at nights. We love spending evenings here, enjoying the music and watching the dancing fountains. Quite often you would witness people enjoying their evening fully dancing amid the crowd.
