Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri Festival - Osaka, Japan (Sep 14, 2019)
Kishiwasa Danjiri Matsuri festival in Kishiwada City, Osaka prefecture, Japan. The video was captured at daylight on September 14, 2019.
The Kishiwada Danjiri event takes place between the dates 14th of September until 15th of September the day after.
It also referred to as 'The Danjiri Float Festival'. It is held to pray for a rich harvest of grain by Lord Nagayasu Okabe.
The tradition of the festival is more than 300 years old. There are other Danjiri festivals, like in Kobe, but they are less spectacular compared to this one hosted in Kishiwada city.
This video was taken on the first day of the festival. Showing the parade and the Danjiri-pulling in different parts of the streets where the Danjiri was passing through.

Japan's Fastest Festival: Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri | Japan Vlog 2 | Lin Nyunt
A Japanese float festival is incredibly fun and exciting. This Osaka float festival, the Danjiri Matsuri, is the biggest and most famous of its kind in Japan.
I travel to Kishiwada in Osaka Prefecture to see floats hurtle down narrow shopping arcades and drift tight corners.
Check out my travel vlog as I immerse myself in Japanese culture.

Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri Sept 2004
The Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri is my favourite Japanese festival. I went most years when I lived in Japan. This video shows a portable shrine (danjiri) being pulled by hundreds of matsuri (festival) participants from one of the wards of the city of Kishiwada.
Japanese festival/Danjiri Matsuri
Danjiri are large wooden carts in the shape of a shrine or temple. The carts, often being crafted out of wood, are very ornate, displaying elaborate carvings. Towns that have Danjiri festivals in them have different neighborhoods each with their own guild, and each guild has a respective danjiri cart that they maintain. The cart is kept in storage for most of the year. When the time comes, the danjiri cart is prepared with elaborate flower arrangements, prayer cards, ornaments and religious consecrations. It is believed that spirits or gods reside in the danjiri.

Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri - Deadly Japanese Festival
Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri is a Japanese festival where they pulled wooden cart floats at high speeds thru the streets of Kishiwada sometimes with fatalities. It's a 300-year old festival to pray for good harvests. The floats if you can see them as they speed by have some intricate carvings of creatures and samurai locked in battle. It's a festival to die for quite literally.
Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri・岸和田だんじり祭り・Festival Kishiwada Osaka Japan
Kishiwada Danjiri Festival is one of the most famous and thrilling festival in Japan. It take place south of Osaka in September and October. The festival is actually divided into two, the first one is held in September, meanwhile the second one is held in October, which is less famous and smaller but involves more Danjiri. The towns between the Nankai line and the mountains hold their own Danjiri Festivals in October.
The main event of Kishiwada Danjiri Festival is the dashing of the mikoshi, or portable shrine, on a 4-ton wooden cart the wheels of which are called Danjiri and which is pulled by 500 to 1000 men, through the streets of Kishiwada. When the mikoshi turns the corner at full speed, it is a most powerful and exciting scene to watch.

Danjiri Matsuri in Kishiwada
The Danjiri Matsuri, (float festival) is said to have its origin in the Inari Matsuri held in the 16th year of the Genroku era(1703). Created by the Lord of Kishiwada Castle to pray for an abundant harvest, the festival, from its very beginning, enjoyed tremendous local support.
The Danjiri Matsuri quickly grew in significance for the people of Kishiwada. Gates normally barring townspeople from entering the castle grounds were thrown open on festival days. Feudal Lords of Kishiwada looked on as each Danjiri was drawn in, and each Danjiri pulling team staged various, high-spirited performances. In those days, Kenka Matsuri (The Fighting Festival) of Kishiwada, became the festival's unofficial name as the excitement turned to competition, and Danjiri teams raced and sometimes collided, and crashed.
With 300 years of tradition and all of Kishiwada behind it, the Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri is proudly held in September each year. 35 Danjiri teams bring their sacred float on a recklessly swift tour of this castle town in a race of strength, endurance, and celebration.
