Braunschweig, also known as Brunswick, is a city in north-central Germany. On Burgplatz square, Dankwarderode Castle has art from the Middle Ages. Across the square stands the Brunswick Lion monument and Romanesque-style Brunswick Cathedral. The Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum showcases local history. The neoclassical Brunswick Palace, rebuilt in the 2000s, is topped with the huge Brunonia Quadriga chariot sculpture.
In past centuries Braunschweig (Brunswick) was an important centre of trade and a member of the Hanseatic League; today its significance has lessened but it's still the largest town between Hanover and Berlin. About 90% of the city's buildings were destroyed in WWII, including its large Altstadt, but the medieval town centre has been since reconstructed. A number of museums and impressive buildings make Braunschweig an interesting place to while away a day or two, or perhaps three if you throw in a day trip to nearby Wolfenbüttel.
Braunschweig was the capital of Duke Heinrich der Löwe (Henry the Lion), a 12th-century Guelph prince who was one of the most powerful people of his time, and you'll see his namesake lions popping up everywhere as the city's heraldic animal, not the least as a giant bronze sculpture atop a tall pillar in front of Heinrich's former castle.
Brunswick is further known for its universities Technische Universität Carolo-Wilhelmina zu Braunschweig, Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig, Ostfalia Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften, Welfenakademie Braunschweig, and 19 research institutes, among them the Johann Heinrich von Thuenen Institute (until the end of 2007 named Federal Agricultural Research Center), and the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research.
The date and circumstances of the town's foundation are unknown. Tradition maintains that Braunschweig was created through the merger of two settlements, one founded by Bruno II, a Saxon count who died before 1017 on one side of the river Oker - the legend gives the year 861 for the foundation - and the other the settlement of a legendary Count Dankward, after whom Castle Dankwarderode (Dankward's clearing), which was reconstructed in the 19th century, is named. The town's original name of Brunswik is a combination of the name Bruno and Low German wik, a place where merchants rested and stored their goods. The town's name therefore indicates an ideal resting-place, as it lay by a ford across the Oker River. Another explanation of the city's name is that it comes from Brand, or burning, indicating a place which developed after the landscape was cleared through burning. The city was first mentioned in documents from the St. Magni Church from 1031, which give the city's name as Brunesguik.

The Brunsick Lion is the best-known landmark in the city of Brunswick. It stands on the Burgplatz square in front of Dankwarderode Castle and Brunswick Cathedral. Within Brunswick it is thus commonly known as the castle lion (Burglöwe), giving the city its moniker Lion City (Die Löwenstadt). Originally erected by Henry the Lion in 1166, it was replaced by a replica in 1980 due to damages to the original caused by air pollution. The original can be found inside Dankwarderode Castle.
Brunswick Palace Braunschweiger Schloss or Braunschweiger Residenzschloss, rebuilt in 2007 after having been bombed out in WWII and torn down in the years to follow. Now merely the facade of the former castle with a shopping mall on the inside. The quadriga Brunonia (the allegorical deity of the old duchy, the free state, and the city of Brunsick) is by far Germany's largest (making it de facto the largest in the world). It is possible to climb to the top of the Schloss and see the statue from up close) The building also hosts the Braunschweig public library. Two equestrian statues are placed in front of the castle, one featuring Duke Karl II. Wilhelm Ferdinand of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, founder of the Braunschweig Technical University, under whose reign Braunschweig for a brief period of time turned into the German center of Enlightenment, and Duke Friedrich Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, one of the most renowned German military leaders during the Napoleonic Wars.
Literaturzentrum Raabe-Haus is a historical builidng in which German author Wilhelm Raabe lived from 1901 until his death in 1910. The house now functions as a museum, center for literature and research, and venue for literary events.

With a caveat: Bruchstrasse is Braunschweig's red light district. Referred to as Gurke (gherkin or cucumber) by locals, this area is off-limits to minors and non-working women (women are likely to be subject to harrassment and verbal abuse through prostitutes when walking down this street), and shielded from public views by two iron gates. It has an interesting historic side to it though, since it is one of the oldest red lights districts in Germany, maybe in the world (prostitution in this part of town was documented as early as 1594), featuring some Medieval-style timber-framed houses, which can be seen from outside the gates.

Amazing architecture and beautiful Christmas decorations. Awesome Big Christmas tree outside the castle or Schloss and inside it's a mall. They have different clothing stores and Jewelry.

Rittersaal in der Burg Dankwarderode
Die Burg Dankwarderode wurde Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts als Herrschaftssitz von Heinrich dem Löwen erbaut. Das, was wir heute kennen und lieben, ist jedoch eine Rekonstruktion. Die alten Gemäuer waren 1873 einem Feuer zum Opfer gefallen.
Seit 2009 war der Rittersaal für die Öffentlichkeit nicht mehr in voller Pracht erlebbar. Er wurde als Ausstellungsort für das im Umbau befindliche Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum genutzt wurde. Bis zum 7. Januar 2018 ist er zunächst nun wieder für Publikum zugänglich.

SACRO IMPERIO 4: Federico Barbarroja y los Hohenstaufen - Güelfos contra Gibelinos
La Dinastía de los Hohenstaufen gobernó Alemania / Germania durante casi siglo y medio. Sus emperadores más famosos fueron Federico Barbarroja y Federico II. El primero vivió toda su vida enfrentado a la familia rival de los güelfos, liderados por Enrique el León. Con él fueron cambiando las instituciones y la política del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico, y en especial las del Reino de Italia. Su enfrentamiento con el papa Alejandro III y la Liga Lombarda no acabó con él, sino un río durante la 3ª Cruzada.
Federico II, su nieto, fue un rey diferente. Vivió la mayor parte de su vida en Sicilia, el Palermo concretamente, mucho más alejado de Alemania. El papa Inocencio IV le convenció para que participara en la 6ª Cruzada, y el tipo logró retomar Jerusalén sólo a base de diplomacia. Sin embargo, tras su muerte, la familia de los Hohenstaufen cayó en desgracia y tras la muerte de Conradino, otros ocuparían el poder de Alemania.

Henry the Lion
Henry the Lion was a member of the Welf dynasty and Duke of Saxony, as Henry III, from 1142, and Duke of Bavaria, as Henry XII, from 1156, which duchies he held until 1180.
He was one of the most powerful German princes of his time, until the rival Hohenstaufen dynasty succeeded in isolating him and eventually deprived him of his duchies of Bavaria and Saxony during the reign of his cousin Frederick I Barbarossa and of Frederick's son and successor Henry VI.
