Places to see in ( Darlington - UK )
Darlington is a large market town in County Durham, in North East England, and part of the Tees Valley. Darlington lies on the River Skerne, a tributary of the River Tees.
Darlington owes much of its development to the influence of local Quaker families in the Georgian and Victorian era, and who provided much of the finance and vision in creating the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world's first steam locomotive powered, permanent passenger railway. The town of Darlington is often colloquially referred to as 'Darlo'.
Darlington is located in south Durham close to the River Tees which acts as the border between Durham and Yorkshire. Both the River Tees and River Skerne pass through the town, the River Skerne later joining the River Tees which then flows through Teesside and into the North Sea. Darlington railway station lies on the East Coast Main Line. There are also local services from the historic North Road railway station and associated Darlington Railway Centre and Museum. Neighbouring towns include Newton Aycliffe, Stockton and Bishop Auckland.
There are several suburbs of Darlington. In the north are Harrowgate Hill, Harrowgate Village, Coatham Mundeville and Beaumont Hill and to the north-east are Whinfield and Haughton Le Skerne. To the east is the suburb of Eastbourne and Red Hall with Firthmoor and Skerne Park to the south. Situated in the west end are Hummersknott, Mowden and Blackwell. Finally, to the north-west are Branksome, Cockerton, Faverdale, The Denes, West Park, High Grange and Pierremont.

At Barnard Castle we see wagons loaded with the track removed from the line over Stainmore Summit, closed in 1962. A ride over this line can be seen at youtube.com/watch?v=KXObLbUn2gc .
What went wrong at Darlington the day I visited.
Not sure what was happening at this Station, I think it was a points problem or a Signal problem as Northbound trains were using the Southbound platform, and Southbound trains the Northbound Platform.

Stockton to Darlington Railway
The Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR) was the first public railway intended for steam locomotive use, operating across north east England from 1825 to 1863. The S&DR’s first line connected coal mines at Shildon in County Durham to Darlington.
From the first day of operation steam trains were used to haul coal wagons. Passengers travelled by horse and carriage until 1833 when the service switched to steam.

British Rail-Darlington & Eaglescliff August 1988
A nice mix BR vid now. Starting at Darlington with some nice Valenta HST thrash we see a couple of freight trains (coal & oil) along with a Met-Cam DMU. Later i traveled to Eaglescliff, a desolate spot but was (still is?) busy with freight traffic. The station is a shadow of its former self, at one time it had 4 platforms (2 islands) with various station facilities but now is a wind-swept shack with bugger all there! But i did capture an unusual visitor in that green 45 106 came creeping along running light engine, this was only the fourth one i ever videoed and the last Peak until class 46 Ixion came back to the main line. Loco classes seen on this vid are 37, 45, 47, 56, HST, 101 & 143. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!
