dartmoor's child - Director's Cut
“When I walk on the moor I tend to see in black and white,
It’s a timeless state, without colour, just tone in the light,
The hillside stone steep, its texture rough,
And each line of every shape is more prominent strangely enough,
A balance in the landscape that lets my mind wander,
No wonder many artists came to this moor to ponder,
To write their novels and their stories,
To let their minds run wild ,
Because it’s here where creativity is Dartmoor’s child.
Because it’s here where creativity is Dartmoor’s child.”
This is my entry to the #dartinfocus 60 second film competition hosted by Dartmoor National Park. This event is huge in my eyes - the principle idea is to support and encourage young filmmakers to get out on Dartmoor and practise their craft. For me, it was a great challenge in the editing room to whittle down my message into 60 seconds, and I still believe that I didn’t hit the nail on the head what so ever.
Nonetheless, he deadline for the event is the 13th of August, and I greatly encourage other young creators in the Devon area to get out and give it a go. To have the local community recognise the young generation of artists is a great thing and we should all get involved.
I hope you enjoyed this clip.

East Mill Tor - Walking on Dartmoor - The Search for Cranmere Pool Continues - Part 2. Nath and Trev's most recent exploration of Dartmoor National Park's North moor continues with the guys venturing up East Mill Tor, and starting to fill in some of the gaps of their Dartmoor 365 map.
The area is right next to where they had recently done a spot of Wildcamping on Dartmoor, only a few months ago, before the summer, before the rain. The guys intend to take on a route to find Cranmere Pool, Dartmoor's very first letterbox and also its most remote spot.

Venford Falls - Landscape Photography & Waterfalls - Dartmoor
With autumn coming to an end I decided it was a nice day to try a bit of landscape photography and try and put together a vlog based on the waterfalls at Venford,so I headed out onto the Dartmoor National Park.
Driving over the moor the weather was a little unsettled so I thought I would try and take a few images even if it was raining but as it happened the weather was very kind to me and stayed dry for most of the day.
Its a bit tricky to find and the wet leaves under foot made it a harrowing journey especially as I'm disabled but I got down to the falls after several times slipping up and landing on my derriere.
Come and say hello if you spot me the Podgy Snapper out and about doing a spot of landscape photography / vlogging. I hope you enjoy my landscape photography vlog. My Gopro Hero 3+ Silver is my main vlogging camera.

Wild | Filmstro + BAFTA Short Film Competition
This film showcases the natural beauty and majestic form of Dartmoor's ponies in the wild open landscapes of Dartmoor National Park.
The moorland ponies are an iconic feature of Dartmoor National Park. They are extremely hardy and actually thrive on Dartmoor despite the harsh weather and poor vegetation. By grazing the moor they play a vital role in maintaining a variety of habitats and supporting wildlife.
All footage was shot with the ponies welfare and safety in mind, special thanks to Dartmoor Heritage Pony Trust for advice and guidance with filming.
Music composed in Filmstro.

The Beast of Dartmoor? (as seen on Fact or Faked)
I spotted this animal while filming shots of Dartmoor for a video competition about 3 years ago.
It's definetely not a rabbit and it seems to bound like a cat which boars physically can't do (plus it has a long tail). And it isn't a hellhound as they are fictional. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine.

Legends of Dartmoor
Being interviewed about the the legends of Dartmoor surrounding the Dewerstone, Shaugh Bridge, Near Plymouth Devon. Recorded at the foot of the Dewerstone where I played as a boy. Shows the places mentioned in my books The Book of Shaugh Parish published October 2008 and Memories of Childhood, Growing up at Shaugh Bridge which was originally written so that my grand daughters would know what is was like to live in a two roomed shack with no gas, electricity or running water. The Parish of Shaugh is situated on the edge of Dartmoor in the county of Devon, England. Details of the book can be found on my website. shaugh.net It is available through all Devon and Plymouth Libraries or you can purchase copies through any good bookstore

Hiking on Dartmoor - Fur Tor (Trying To Reach Cranmere Pool ) - Hiking For Beginners
More hiking for beginners by beginners. Today, on our 2nd Dartmoor walk, the two men and a dog work towards Cranmere Pool, which we have heard is one of the furthest places in the Southwest from any road... so quite a trek on our hands then. Perhaps we should have left earlier?!
Via the Mary Tavy Valley and Fur Tor, today's journey is just about as bleak as Dartmoor can get, but still as picturesque as ever.
Follow the link below if you would like an easy to follow breakdown of the route that we took
2018 02 15 Discovering the Dartmoor Story 1 Bronze Age
We've decided to have a go at telling the Dartmoor Story ourselves. So last week, fully equipped for whatever the weather could throw at us, we went out onto the moor to make a film about Bronze Age life on Dartmoor. Although it was sunny, it was incredibly windy and even hailed on us. I'm not sure we'll be entered for any awards but here it is, our light hearted introduction to Bronze Age Dartmoor (apologies for all the wind noise!)
A Tinner's Tale | Discover the Dartmoor Story
People have always searched the moor for Tin. Veins of ore formed as the granite heated the surrounding rock. At first it could be found in moorland streams but as it got harder to find, people had to be more ingenious, etching the hillsides and mining.
