Dartmoor Zoo Crowdfunder launch

The zoo, on the southern slopes of England’s last wilderness area, was bought in 2006 by journalist Benjamin Mee who wrote a book about his struggle to bring it back from the brink of ruin, inspire his family and save the animals while grieving the death of his young wife.

Lion Attacks Man at Dartmoor Zoo: Publicity Stunt Goes Wrong
Britain's manliest man Sacha Harding is challenged to a shave off in a Lion's Cage by a former SAS at Dartmoor Zoo (the setting for blockbuster movie We Bought A Zoo). But the shaving stunt takes a nasty turn when the distressed soldier falls against the cage bars and has his face mauled by an African Lion. It's thought that the big cat sprayed him in the eyes with urine after his anxiety levels excited the animal, causing him to fall against the bars. Video produced by Adelia TV.

We met a peacock that made sure we saw everything. Thanks Mr Peacock. Another good experience and something to do with the family if you live or visit Devon
Pros:
- Great exposure to the animals
- Educational talks
- Large zoo so you can spend a whole day there
Cons:
- Talks are close together so you can go to all of them
- Talk was late (we only went to one so the other may have been on time)

Join us to kick off the May bank holiday weekend at TorqEat 2014 - Torquay's FREE food festival, now on for TWO DAYS from 10am until 6pm on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May.

Visitors will once again be able to try and buy from over 35 local food and drink producers, all showcasing a delicious mix of products from across the Bay and the region.
In response to last year's enormous popularity which saw more than 5,000 visitors attend in just one day, TorqEat, has been extended and will now take place over two days. Over 14 local and regional chefs have been booked to take to the stage in our cookery theatre set on a prime location along the busy harbourside.
This year, TorqEat is delighted to welcome Torquay's very own Michelin star chef, Simon Hulestone from the Elephant Restaurant, who will be impressing all with his talent for using local, seasonal produce to create hugely memorable flavours. Simon will be joined by passionate supporter and advocate of TorqEat, Richard Hunt, proprietor of the Devon Scone Company, and by MasterChef: The Professionals 2012 joint winner and head chef at The Treby Arms, Anton Piotrowski.
