Ashburton Town History 2000
This 8 minute video is from the CD produced in 2000 by Peter Thornhill of Garden Shed Multimedia for Ashburton Town Council. Filmed in 1999, it features John Germon (Town Clerk & Devon Dialect Author) & Peter Webb (local author & historian) talking about some of the town's features. John talks about the Town Hall, Cattle in North street, Cutty Dyer & the Town Council. Pete shows Ashburton Marble outside the (then new) Ashburton Information Centre, a wool drying loft, St Andrew's Church & Lt. Guidon and a little on St Lawrence Chapel. It ends with pictures of some of the town's buildings (and some of the businesses in them - some no longer with us). Go to for more info on the town. or for the new book on Ashburton's history go to

Escape to the Country - Devon ...
Devon, also known as Devonshire, which was formerly its common and official name, is a county of England, reaching from the Bristol Channel in the north to the English Channel in the south. It is part of South West England, bounded by Cornwall to the west, Somerset to the northeast, and Dorset to the east. The City of Exeter is the county town; seven other districts of East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, Torridge, and West Devon are under the jurisdiction of Devon County Council; Plymouth and Torbay are each a part of Devon but administered as unitary authorities. Combined as a ceremonial county, Devon's area is 6,707 km2 (2,590 square miles) and its population is about 1.1 million.
Devon derives its name from Dumnonia, which, during the British Iron Age, Roman Britain, and Early Medieval was the homeland of the Dumnonii Brittonic Celts. The Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain resulted in the partial assimilation of Dumnonia into the Kingdom of Wessex during the eighth and ninth centuries. The western boundary with Cornwall was set at the River Tamar by King AEthelstan in 936. Devon was constituted as a shire of the Kingdom of England thereafter.
Escape to the Country - Devon
The north and south coasts of Devon each have both cliffs and sandy shores, and the county's bays contain seaside resorts, fishing towns, and ports. The inland terrain is rural, generally hilly, and has a low population density in comparison to many other parts of England. Dartmoor is the largest open space in southern England at 954 km2 (368 square miles), its moorland extending across a large expanse of granite bedrock. To the north of Dartmoor are the Culm Measures and Exmoor. In the valleys and lowlands of south and east Devon the soil is more fertile, drained by rivers including the Exe, the Culm, the Teign, the Dart, and the Otter.
As well as agriculture, much of the economy of Devon is linked with tourism. The comparatively mild climate, coastline and landscape give rise to Devon as a destination for recreation and leisure in England, with visitors particularly attracted to the Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks; its coasts, including the resort towns along the south coast known collectively as the English Riviera, the Jurassic Coast, and North Devon's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve; and the countryside including the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape.

Tuscan Devon Twinning - Celebration Dinner @ Abode Exeter
A unique celebration of our Devon food culture and of our growing links with one of the worlds most appetising and attractive food destinations, Tuscany. Over the past two years, we have been working to develop an informal twinning group, mainly through close contacts with Tuscans in and around Pisa, who have now twice come over to the Exeter Festival to share their food culture and superb food products with us. A return visit to Pisa in late 2009 helped to progress our warm and positive relationship and we are looking to develop this further on a number of fronts in 2010.

The journey with a thousand miles begins with a single step ..
A home away from home, an exceptional university, thank you UoE for everything. Officially become an alumni, peace out Exeter? Gonna see you in two months, bring on the MSc!
These people make saying goodbye so hard, especially we came through a lot together. The jokes we laughed at, the tears we dropped, the pints we had, the places we explored and more. These are the best time in my life and will never forget. The 421 trust house heroes, thank you for being here for me - and fighting all the spiders together. We may not meet each other as often as before, but I believe the 421 bonding and crazy genes will remain!!
I will always miss #inthewild, #dirtyfinger, #bunsun, #soyaman, #mahoohoo!!!!
AND, it is unbelievable that my best friend in life travelled six thousands miles from Hong Kong to England for my graduation (and of course for her graduation trip too hahaha). Spent countless nights in writing itinerary and got really excited for her stay in England. Here comes a big thanks to my sissy, and hope you enjoy every single moment in England ????
To all my Exeter crew and friends,
Congratulation on your great achievement. All the good wishes for the future :)
SO THE ADVENTURE BEGINS ..
Special thanks to the Grosvenor Hotel Victoria and Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel for all the arrangements during graduation week.

Stir up Sunday 2010 at Darts Farm with Michael Caines and Woody Bear for Families for Children
Stir up Sunday with Michael Caines
Woody Bear was lucky enough to be able to assist the Patron of Families for Children, Michael Caines, again this year in making Christmas Puddings with some really wonderful Children.
The event was a sell out! Everyone had a fantastic time making Christmas Puddings from scratch at Darts Farm. Both the Parton of the Charity (Michael Caines) and the vice patron (Mark Tyler) gave up their time to come and give the children a really enjoyable time.
The event was a credit to the organisers, Lesley from Families for Children, yet again, planned a really fun and amazing event.
From Farm to Plate, Part 2: The Butchers
For the second of our films, we head over to Greendale Farm Shop to meet Richard, one of our Master Butchers.
Our series of three films, titled ‘From Farm to Plate’, was created to tell the story of Greendale beef. The first film focuses on the Greendale beef herd as it grazes above the Jurassic coast; the second film pays a visit to the double award-winning butchers at Greendale Farm Shop; and the final film ends at The Salutation Inn in Topsham, where Chef Tom Williams-Hawkes prepares a special beef dish.
These films are part of our campaign to promote the very best of local food and drink; we want our customers to understand the benefits of buying local, particularly traceability, high quality and low food-mileage. The films are intended as a sort of ‘window’ into the Greendale supply chain, showing customers exactly where their fresh fish and meat have come from.
