barramundi fishing australia
Fishing Darwin | Barramundi | Northern Territory | Australia
In this video I head to the wilds of Darwin in the Northern Territory to get into the world class barramundi fishing available within minutes of the City. I team up with my mate Drew and we head out on his boat to cast soft plastics at the edges of a creek as the tide falls.
When the tide is falling the bait fish have nowhere to hide and cling to the edges of the creek, where the Barramundi hunt them and we hunt for the Barramundi.
I was using my Shimano Nasci and Sedona (2500 size) with a Pflueger Trion Transcendent Travel Rod and I started off by using a Jiggle Fishing 2.5” Paddle grub (in pearl) ( available at ) on a new 1/6 Bullet jig head. I was actually a little nervous using such light gear, but it all handled really well and got the Barra to the boat.
I really gotta say that the motorguide attached to the front of Drew’s boat made this style of fishing very easy and I’d definitely be chucking one of them on a boat if I had one.
Drew managed to get the biggest Barra on a 4” Paddle Tail Shad (in Olive). (available at )

EP 21 - NT Barra and tasty Mud Crabs | ESCAPE FISHING WITH ET
This week I head north to Darwin and catch up with my long time fishing mate Braydon to chase Barramundi and Mud Crabs.
Braydon hooks up to a monster river fish which we hope is a big Barra. After snapping his rod on the fish close to the boat he pulls it on board for a photo.
All the while we had deployed 5 mud crab pots up the creek catching nothing on the outgoing tide but as expected things turned around once the tide started pushing in. Chilli Mud Crab for dinner was absolutely beautiful.
Back home on the Port Hacking River i take my Hobie Kayak out to track down some Dusky Flathead as the tide starts to drop off the flats.
The last of the run out tide is usually good fishing times for Barra and Flathead and any run in tide is great for those beautiful tasty Mud Crabs so get out fishing and have some fun.
Cheers

Fishing for big winter barra in Darwin
Typically cold weather is not the best time to fish for barramundi however we had a cracker day fishing for big winter barra in Darwin.
We lost a good fish then landed a 94 cm big girl who did not want to come into the net!
We finally landed her and released to fight another day.
The full story and a rundown of differences between fishing east and west coast for barra can be found on our blog:

Helifish Darwin for the Million dollar fish | NT Dreaming
Come with us and experience the trip of a lifetime as we Helifish Darwin on the hunt for the million dollar fish.
For those that don't know, million dollar fish is a tourism initiative by the Northern Territory where they tag and release over a hundred barramundi for recapture, each sporting an identification tag. Anglers who catch the fish and return the tags receive $10,000 and one lucky tag is for $1,000,000.
Season 4 has been extended to September 2019 to give us all another crack at catching the million dollar fish. PLUS for the first time, they have tagged more than one million dollar fish.
Here are the details;
If you were already registered for Season 4 of Million Dollar Fish and didn’t get up to the NT to fish – you're in luck.
· Although Season 4 has officially finished, the BONUS round is now activated! There has never been a better time to get up here and reel in a barra worth a whopping million bucks!
· This bonus round sees the 5 x million dollar fish still swimming in Top End Waters from now until the end of September 2019 and we even know the tag numbers to look out for:
o S1-MDF1469
o S2-MDF2656
o S3-MDF3556
o S4-MDF4540
o S4-MDF4663
· The first caught and verified tag collects $1 million
· If you haven’t registered as yet, Season 5 is now open and officially starts on 1st October 2019 so you have time to plan your trip.
The fish are released all around the northern territory so give ourselves the best chance of catching one, we headed to Darwin and took a helifish tour.
For the entire day, we were chauffeured around the top end with fishing enthusiast pilots to one amazing location after another.
This is one trip you must add to your bucket list and has something for the whole family and is amazingly affordable.
Register for the million dollar fish here (NOTE YOU MUST REGISTER BEFORE CATCHING THE FISH TO WIN THE $$ - entry is free):
