Anklam is a town in the Western Pomerania region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is situated on the banks of the Peene river, just 8 km from its mouth in the Kleines Haff, the western part of the Stettin Lagoon. Anklam was the capital of the former Ostvorpommern district. Since September 2011, it has been part of the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald. The town is home to various historic buildings. You can visit the Otto Lilienthal Museum and the Anklamer Steintor, which is a 13th century city gate. This only surviving city gate of the Hanseatic city of Anklam is a landmark of the city. After extensive restoration, since 1989 it has housed the regional history museum in the Steintor. It is the highest city gate of Pomerania and has a stepped gable.
