GIRNAR BHAGAVAN DATTATREY DARSHAN
BHAGAVAN DATTATREY DARSHAN , GIRNAR, JUNAGADH.
Jai Dattatrey, Dattatreya Temple, Giranar Hill, Junagadh, Saurashtra, Gujarat, India.
Situated at the far end of the ancient town of Junagadh is the holy hill of Girnar. Hiking the Grinar Hill is one of the most reputed excursion sites in the town of Junagadh in Gujarat. It is about 3672 feet high and topped by a number of Jain temples.
Girnar Hill is located about 25 km away from Kaiwa Chowk—the main four way junction. The best way of getting to the foot of the Girnar Hill is to take a tuk-tuk (an eight seat sharing vehicle). These tuk-tuks start ferrying pilgrims to the foot of the hill from as early as 4am. The other option is to hire a private auto-rickshaw; rates are quoted as per the times of the day.
To reach the peak of the Girnar Hill one has to climb 10,000 steps from the foot of the hill. At the foot of the hill there are many stalls and shops that sell prayer offerings, sweets are sold and also bamboo sticks that people can buy or hire to aid them in walking the 10,000 steps. It is advisable to take a bamboo stick along the way as it becomes a life saver especially when one reaches the higher end of the climb.
Just after crossing the main entrance there is a small quadrangle that has a pulley in the centre surrounded by many rope chairs. People who find it hard to climb generally avail of this service. People have to pay for the rope chair service based on their weight hence the pulley weighing system is there. There is an official board that has the weight and price ratio mentioned on it to avoid people from getting cheated.
As the climb begins there are plenty of stalls selling water and other refreshments along the way. The cost of all these products sold in these stalls keeps rising as one climbs higher since all these products are carried physically by the stall owners and their workers. There are no stalls after 7000 steps so it is advisable to pick up all the required amenities at the stalls that are there prior to it along the steps.
The steps of the climb were initially paved by pilgrims walking this path it was only later on that the stone slab steps were made hence many of the steps are uneven and not of equal length. After every thousand steps there is an indicator in yellow on the steps notifying the steps completed.
There are also plenty of monkeys that are found all along the hill it is advisable not to feed these monkeys since they create a nuances by attacking people who are walking while they are eating. After every 2500 steps there are small dome shaped Dharamshalas along the way where pilgrims can take some rest if needed. These are free resting spots but provide service only on a first come first service basis.
The temples that first come by are located at 7000 steps and are the five temples of Jainism. Of these five temples, the biggest as well as the oldest one was established to pay homage to the 22nd Jain Tirthankar. The temple meant for the worship of Amba Mata is also quite popular. Photography is strictly prohibited in the temple complex but as one ascends higher one will get a splendid view of the all the temples and also the view of the land below is simply breath-taking.
Most of the pilgrims don’t go beyond this point. They spend their time on a flat terrace that is created overlooking the adjoining Girnar Hills. On this terrace there are plenty of stalls selling fruits, water and soft drinks.
A further 3000 steps climb ahead leads to the final temple which is situated on the peak of the hill. Only about 10 – 15% of the pilgrims that start the climb actually reach up to this temple. The area below this temple is home to many Agori Sadus (naked sadus).
Innumerable people visit the place on the occasion of Bhavnath Fair. This fair is held between the months of January and February every year. The Bhavnath Fair is celebrated with a lot of music and dance programs. According to popular local belief, it is Lord Krishna who first celebrated this fair to give a warm welcome to Arjuna. All along the 10,000 steps there are plenty of small temples, prayer symbols and donation boxes for visitors to contribute to.
The walk to the peak of Girnar should always be attempted early in the morning well before sunrise since the weather is pleasant and the climb is much easier. Climbing the 10,000 steps is no easy task and takes a fit person about 4 to 5 hours to complete. It is advisable to avoid taking long rest breaks since after a long break the climb gets harder.
The devotees of Hinduism and Jainism frequently visit these temples as they are considered very sacred. For others the Girnar Hills are a must visit for the breath-taking view of the scenery and the architecture of the temples in addition to the challenging climb.

Girnar, also known as Girinagar or Revatak Pravata, is a group of mountains in the Junagadh District of Gujarat, India, situated near Junagadh.
Older than Himalayas, Girnar, the mountain and its range are considered sacred and it is an important pilgrimage site for both Jains and Hindus, who gather here during the Girnar Parikrama festival. Significantly famous among Shiva devotees for the mystic space-time of the mountain range with known presence and turnover of different sects of Sadhu Babas, Nath sect, different Jain Tirthankaras to Girnar, its typical flora and fauna, the famous Maha Shivratri fair, Girnar hosts a number of temples and some historical spots across its range. Amidst the lush green Gir Forest, the mountain range serves as the hub of religious activity.
For Hindus this place is considered holy as Dattatreya stayed there.
Also, this place is associated with the death of mighty Yavana warrior Kalayavana in Dwaparyug. Lord Shri Krishna lures Kalayavana into the cave where the great king of Tretayug, Muchukunda, one of the forefathers of Lord Shri Rama was in a deep slumber of thousands of years after helping Devas in an epic war with Asuras. Contemplating an absolutely undisturbed sleep he was given a boon that anyone who dared to disturb his sleep would get burnt to ashes immediately. Fast forward to Dwaparyug, in the darkness deep inside the cave, Kalayavan mistakenly wakes up Muchukunda from his sleep, and sure to his boon Kalayavan was decimated into ashes instantaneously. And then Muchukunda was delighted to see Lord Shri Krisha there, who was none other than Lord Vishnu. This story is very popular in Srimad Bhagavata. Lord Damodar here is considered as Adhipati of Girnar Kshetra. And this place is very holy for Vaishnavaits. Not withstanding the story though, today Mount Girnar is even more popular as a Shaiva and Siddha Kshetra.
This mountain was considered holy to Buddhists as well.
According to tradition, Pavhari Baba, who had an immense influence on Swami Vivekananda was first initiated into the mysteries of practical yoga on the top of mount Girnar.
History
The mountain Girnar is older than the Himalayas and the Jain temples upon it are amongst the most ancient in the country, its the Moksha Sthali of Shri Neminath Bhagwaan (22 nd tirthankera if JAINs). It is 3666 feet high, and is one of the most remarkable mountains in India. From the city of Junagarh, which is at an altitude of barely 351 feet only the top of Mount Girnar can be seen, as it has in front of it lower hills, of which Jogniya, or Laso Pawadi, 2527 feet, Lakhshman Tekri, Bensla, 2290 feet high, and Datar, 2779 feet high, are the principal.[3]
Girnar was anciently called Raivata or Ujjayanta, sacred amongst the Jains to Neminath, the 22nd Tirthankar, and a place of pilgrimage before the days of Ashoka, 250 BCE

Kala Dungar,Dattatreya Temple | Kutch Yatra
25 kms north of Khavda, the top of the Black Hills is the highest point in Kutch, at 462 m. From here, the entire northern horizon vanishes into the Great Rann, the desert and sky often becoming indistinguishable. It is one of the few non-coastal locations where you feel like you are at the edge of the earth, on the brink of incomprehensible vastness that fades off towards infinity. Looking out from the Black Hills, you can understand the tremendous effort that those who undertake the crossing of the Great Rann have to make. Since this is one of the places where a civilian can get closest to the Pakistan border, there is an Army post at the top; beyond here, only military personnel are allowed. The hill is also the site of a 400-year-old temple to Dattatreya, the three-headed incarnation of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva in the same body. Legend says that when Dattatreya walked on the earth, he stopped at the Black Hills and found a band of starving jackals. Being a god, he offered them his body to eat and as they ate, his body continually regenerated itself. Because of this, for the last four centuries, the priest at the temple has prepared a batch of prasad that is fed to the jackals after the evening aarti.
Girnar Mountain, Dattatreya temple
The Girnar mountain is believed to be older than mighty Himalayas. You have to climb 10K Steps and 10K Steps down to worship the lord dattatreya.

Dattatreya temple in Karnataka attracts people from across faiths
Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Oct 02 (ANI): India is a land of diverse cultures. Here, people from different religions, cultures, castes and creeds, have co-existed peacefully since time immemorial. This communion of faiths could be witnessed at several places all across India. Dattatreya temple in Kalaburagi city of Karnataka is one such place where devotees cutting across all religious lines throng the temple in service of their common God ‘Dutta’. Dattareya temple in Deval Ganagapur village, some 30 kilometres away from Kalaburagi city in Karnataka, is among the most visited religious destinations in southern India. The premises were teeming with pilgrims from Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Karnataka to participate in rituals and aarti performed in the temple. Leaving behind caste, creed and religious diversities, seen all across India, devotees come here in unison to pray and seek blessings from the three-headed god, Dattatreya. People from all over the country visit this place. The people who are facing lot of problem in their lives visit this place,” said Temple Priest Kallan Bhatt. According to the legend, Lord Dattatreya was born to Lord Brahma’s son, Atri and Anusaya, the daughter of Karjam Prajapati. Dattatreya at a very tender age left home in search of ‘absolute’, the ultimate reality. He wandered around Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh before attaining enlightenment at Ganagapur town in Karnataka. Among its devotees, Dattatreya is known to be a reincarnation of Lord Shiva. People believe that their Lord Dattatreya leads them to set aside their pride and develop love and compassion for other beings irrespective of their religious diversifications. Diluting all differences, his devotees too prostrate before their lord and follow the path enlightened by their beloved Lord.
