Buy this track: * DJ/producer Skratch Bastid and multi-instrumentalist Karim Khneisser collaborated in Beirut on this turntables/hang drum piece. Recorded live, the video came together after the two artists discussed the shape of an improv piece, gathered their tools, and headed to Karim's studio to record something. This is the result. The turntables meet the hang drum. Not much else to say except: Watch, listen, and enjoy!

Soldiers Down Tribute Movie
This song was written in early 2009 by Bryan Clay, frontman for New York based Alternative Hard Rock band BLIND.
His lyrics, found at the bottom of this page, were inspired by a combination of combat stories and live audio footage from BLIND's original lead guitarist, Eddie Broschart. Eddie, while serving in the U.S. Marines, was taping a letter home on cassette when a fire fight broke out. The player was dropped but was still recording and caught the whole thing on tape.
The live clips heard throughout the song is the actual combat footage of Eddie B and another Marine trying to get through to CP to gain clearance for a Grenade strike against the enemy. All the while being held down by Sniper fire!
Bryan Clay had this to say about it:
I was so haunted by the live audio after hearing it just once and just could not let it go. I would play it over and over just listening to all that was going on. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and was nothing like what you hear in the movies. TRUST ME! That's when I knew I wanted to write something special. I felt compelled to make a dedication of some sort to Eddie B as well as all war Veterans that have given up so much and get so little in return. It gave me that same feeling I had in my gut after the 9-11 attacks. You just have to hear it to undetrstand I guess.
Eddie once told me that he was in a combat line when they took, I think it was either a Mortar or Grenade hit and he watched, like, 8 men to his immediate left die!! I mean, how the F&@! do you get past that?! I couldn't F&#$ing imagine, nor do I want to! That's where the chorus comes from.
Once I wrote the song I decided to make a video and did like 30 hours of research on the 82'-84' tour in Beirut and was F$%cking horridied!! It was like 9-11 X 10!! I was too young at the time to know what happened then so it was quiet shocking to me to go back and dig up history. That's when I came across the old pics of Eddie B that I was so happy to find!!
I don't know if Eddie even knows about them on the net because Eddie left BLIND in late 2008. I don't hear much from him and he didn't seem interested in my song when he heard about it nor has he seen this video as of yet, 6/6/09 and I really hope he will dig it. This ones for you bro, from the heart!! We miss you man! Don't be a stranger.
