2016 Winnipeg Miracle Gala & Concert Sizzle Reel
David Foster and friends wow Winnipeg crowd and raise $3.2 million for David Foster Foundation families
Sept. 25, 2016, Winnipeg, MB – David Foster thanked gala attendees and concert ticket holders for attending the 2016 David Foster Foundation Miracle Gala & Concert and helping to raise $3.2 million to help Canadian families with children undergoing pediatric organ transplants.
Since its inception, the David Foster Foundation has worked to close to 1,000 families across Canada. The Foundation’s financial commitment to families’ averages to $10,000 throughout their transplant journey and historically has been as high as $100,000. Financial support of non-medical expenses ranges from mortgage, rent, and car payments to airline tickets, groceries, parking, and gas. Often, families have to travel away from home and set up temporary housing close to one of the pediatric transplant hospitals in Canada.
The evening began with the star-studded arrival of guests, VIPs, and celebrities along the purple carpet (the Foundation’s preferred colour) at the MTS Centre. The star-studded evening was seamlessly emceed by HLN’s Michaela Pereira – host of MichaeLA – and guests were treated to performances by Grammy Award-winners David Foster, Seal, and Michael Bolton; The Tenors; Carly Rae Jepsen; Jackie Evancho; and Sinbad.
The show opened with performances by Jackie Evancho, The Tenors, and Carly Rae Jepsen, followed by a comedic interlude by the one and only Sinbad. Michael Bolton wowed the crowd with a multi-song performance before being joined on stage by Seal. To close the show Seal performed three songs, before being joined on stage by the evening’s performers. Throughout the evening, gala guests and concert attendees were wowed by performances by each performer as they joined Foster on stage.
As part of the evening, Gail Asper, O.C., O.M., LL.D.; Bonnie Buhler, LL.D. and John Buhler, O.C., LL.D.; and Hartley T. Richardson, O.C., O.M., LL.D. were honoured as the recipients of the David Foster Foundation Visionary Awards.
