David Scott Trail is an old trekking route that is counted amongst the most famous ones in Meghalaya. It is named after a British officer David Scott, who discovered and established it as a mule track to travel from Assam to Bangladesh.
The entire route covers a distance of more than 100 kilometres, and takes around five days to complete the trek. It is divided into smaller trekking trails, the most popular amongst which is the one between Mawphlang and Lad Mawphlang.
This one-day route extends up to 16 kilometres and takes just four hours to trek. Throughout the trail, trekkers are greeted by breathtaking vistas of mountainous streams, gurgling waterfalls, sprawling meadows, forest groves and traditional Khasi villages.

The David Scott Story
Melbourne activist David Scott spent a lifetime fighting poverty, was a pioneering advocate for East Timor, and created an enduring legacy in social justice and environmental reform.
Through the recollections of people who knew him this gentle, reflective story unpacks David Scott’s life.
Beautifully crafted, the film is also a powerful visual reminder of the social transformations of late 20th century Australia.
Featuring Adrian Harris, Peter Hollingworth, Caroline Scott, Lucinda Horrocks, Richard Tanter and Mick Lumb and incorporating historic images from the archives of the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Oxfam Australia, the United Nations, the Richardson East Timor Papers and others this memorable short documentary film will leave you wanting more.
Film produced by Wind & Sky Productions.

David Scott Trail History
David Scott was a British Administrator and political agent to the British Raj. His operations lasted about 29 years (1802-1832) in the Khasi Hills and the surrounding low-lying areas. These areas are now part of Bangladesh and the Indian states of Meghalaya and Assam.
One remainder of David Scott’s legacy is the horse-cart trail that he built from Cherrapunjee, now also knows as Sohra, to Bangladesh.
This trail caused a war between the Khasi people, led by U Tirot Singh, king of the Khadsawphra Syiemship and the British. After four years of guerrilla-warfare style fighting, the Khasi forces were defeated by British muskets, artillery and superior military strength. U Tirot Singh was captured and deported to Dhaka (now the capital of Bangladesh) where he died on the 17th July 1835.
The North East India - Episode 4 | Lost in the Jungle | David Scott Trail - Shillong to Cherrapunji
Hello Everyone and Welcome to my Channel.
I started my trek from Shillong to Cherrapunji which is about 16 km. I took some wrong turns and ended up trekking 37 odd km. It was scary, adventurous, exciting and fun all at once.
This is my journey through the mountains and rivers from the famous David Scott Trail.
I moved a little inside after this journey. I have started appreciating mother nature and we should all do our bit to preserve it.

Nongriat & David Scott trail
Nongriat is a village of Meghalaya. It is perhaps best known for its living root bridges; one an impressive double-decker suspension bridge called Jingkieng Nongriat. The village has three functional root bridges. These are crafted by hand, as the Khasi people have done in the Khasi Hills for centuries, intertwining and weaving together the aerial roots of banyan trees on opposite sides of a stream-filled gorge.
One of the most popular trekking routes is the old mule track marked by David Scott, traditionally used by people to travel from Mawphlang to present day Bangladesh.
This entire picturesque route extends to a five days trek or can be divided into shorter treks, the most common being from Mawphlang to Lad Mawphlang, a one day trek (16 km).

David Scott Trail in Meghalaya, India
The David Scott Trail is one of the most beautiful treks (walks) in all of India. This undiscovered trail, as seen in the photo, is located in a remote part of NE India, about one hour from Shillong. The 4-hour walk takes you past clear streams, by waterfalls over rushing rivers, through meadows, jungles and valleys, and also through a Khasi village on a hilltop. It is pristine and I'm worried that even this small description may bring people who will ruin the perfect beauty of this walk.
On 30 December 2011, the Directors and a few CBzens went for a trek to David Scott Road. It's one of the most beautiful treks in all of India. David Scott Trail is a remnant from British times and may have only had horse traffic. Once roads are built in this area it will leave the trail abandoned. Now, for a few local villagers or so, it lies waiting as one of the most beautiful, undiscovered destinations in India.
Mid-trek conversations, David Scott Trail, Meghalaya.
David Scott Trail is a 16.4 km trek from Mawphlang to Ladmawphlang in Meghalaya. Earlier, it used to be a secret route from Meghalaya to Bangladesh, now it has been shortened and only this 16km route is open to public. Beautiful scenery, rivers and mountains, wild orchids make your trek enjoyable and satisfying.

Trekking David Scott Trail (Lost in the Day)
An old trekking route and one of the most popular trekking routes in Meghalaya, David Scott Trail Shillong has been named after David Scott, a British office. The officer discovered this route in the first half of 1800s in the form of a mule track for travelling from Assam to Bangladesh. This route spread in over 100 km and takes around 5 days to get covered, on-foot. This trail route is separated into smaller trekking routes and the trail between Mawphlang and Lad Mawphlang, is the most famous one. This route covers the lovely terrain of Eastern Khasi Hills.
This 1-day route in David Scott Trail expands up to 16 km and can be covered in 4 hours. The whole trek is blessed with mesmerizing natural wonders such as cascading waterfalls, crystal clear streams gushing down from mountains, typical Khasi villages, scenic valleys, forests groves and expansive meadows.
