Dayang Bunting is the second largest island in Langawi's cluster of 99 islands. It's located offshore and south of the main island, and can easily be reached by a boat. So why is this island so famous? The literal meaning of its name is 'Island of Pregnant Maiden'. And it has a wonderful large fresh water lake (known as Lake Guillemard) surrounded by hills having dense rain forests. The lake too is known as Lake of the Pregnant Maiden.
The legend says that a man named Mat Teja met and fell in love with the princess Mambang Sari at the lake. They eventually married and the princess gave birth to a son. However their son did not live long and soon died. Having reconciled with their misfortune, they decided to lay their son in the water of the lake and allow him to rest in peace. The gracious princess also blessed all women having difficulty in conceiving a child. They would become fertile once they take a dip into the water of the lake.

Dayang Bunting Island is the second largest island in the Langkawi island group in Malaysia. The translation of the island's name is Pregnant Maiden Island, and it is most famous for Dayang Bunting Lake, or Pregnant Maiden Lake. The legend says that a princess named Mambang Sari married a man named Mat Teja and had a child. Unfortunately the baby died just a few days after he was born. The princess placed his body in the lake and blessed all women who have trouble conceiving a child. It is said that infertile women who take a dip in the lake will later be able to get pregnant.
Dayang Bunting Island is about 12 miles south of the main island of Langkawi. You can get there by boat from either Kuah Jetty or at
Pantai Cenang, and the journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Island Hopping Tour Around Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia. Visit to Dayang Bunting Marble & Beras Basah
S1E16 - This time we are going on an Island Hopping Tour! We departed from Pulau Langkawi early in the morning by a speedboat. First we were taken to Dayang Bunting Marble where we spent a few hours. Walking through the rainforest full of monkeys we observed one feasting on someone's pizza ???? We got to the freshwater lake where we had a chance to relax and take a quick swim. Next we were taken to an eagle feeding spot and from there onto Beras Basah island where we had a chance to stroll around and relax for another few more hours. It was a full day of action and fun!

The island, which is about 20 kilometres from Kuah town, is modestly populated on one side and virtually uninhabited on the other where the lake is situated.
The legend of Tasik Dayang Bunting goes like this: The favourite bathing pool of a celestial princess named Mambang Sari was said to be Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden). A prince, Mat Teja, fell madly in love with her and tricked her into marrying him.

Dayang Bunting Marble Geo park Langkawi | Pure Water Lake in Langkawi Island Malaysia
Dayang Bunting Marble is included in island hopping tour. You can buy tour package at travel agent (30 RM). This is the first stop of island hopping. We have to climb some (actually so many) stairs to see the lake. Be careful with your bags because there are so many monkeys in the forest. A monkey tried to bite my totebag. Haha.. Oh we can swim at the lake if we want, or ride a watercab at the lake. The view was pretty and the water felt so fresh (I only sunk my feet to the water, not swim or drink)
Pulau Dayang Bunting, Langkawi’s second largest uninhabited island, is easily accessible via a 15-minute boat ride from Kuah Jetty. Its name literally translates to ‘Isle of the Pregnant Maiden’ as it resembles the silhouette of a reclined pregnant lady from afar. Locals also believe barren women will become fertile after swimming in the freshwater lake on the island. Once you’ve reached the jetty, it’s a 15-minute hike to the lake via a concrete stairway through the dense forest.
Surrounded by mangrove trees and a limestone formation, the freshwater lake is great for swimming while a small shop nearby offers drinks, snacks, and souvenirs as well as paddleboats and life jacket rentals. While the lake is fitted with several wooden decks, it has an average depth of 10 meters without any shallow area so life jackets are highly recommended for children and swimming novices.

Let's hop on a boat and explore some of the popular spots in the area, such as the Lake of the Pregnant Maiden (Danau Dayang Bunting) and Wet Rice Island (Pulau Beras Basah). In case you like big birds: we also stop at an eagle watching spot. We end the day at - in our opinion - the best beach on the main island, Tanjung Rhu beach.
