Genoa, Nevada
Historic Genoa, Nevada, is nestled at the base of the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and just 20 minutes from beautiful Lake Tahoe. Home to Mormon Station Memorial State Park which commemorates the settlement of Nevada in 1851, the first permanent trading post was established by a group of Mormon traders from Salt Lake City. Genoa's natural beauty and historic charm still beckon travelers and local wildlife. It is not unusual to spot mule deer as they come down from the forested area of Genoa and cross local roads to graze on vegetation or fields along the Carson River Valley. More information about the video content bellow:
1. In the summer of 1864, with the Civil War roiling the south and a big election only months away, Lincoln supporters across the country hustled to secure statehood for pro-Abe territories. Nevada started putting together its state constitution on July 4 and managed to safely submit it to Congress just under the early November deadline. When the copy they’d sent by land didn’t make the trip, California Telegraph Company top gun James Guild managed to telegraph the entire 16,543-word Nevada constitution out on October 26, Benjamin F. Shearer’s The Uniting States explains. Two days later, it reached Lincoln’s hands in time and could be duly proclaimed.
2. According to the United States Department of Energy (DOE), the Nevada National Security Site, formerly known as the Nevada Test Site, accommodated 928 atomic bomb tests between 1951 and 1992 [PDF], including many underground detonations and a series of simultaneous ones, for a grand total of 1021 detonations. Underground areas of the site have been used for nuclear tests in recent years, but its days of atomic detonations ended more than two decades ago. Of course, not before thousands of civilian and military “downwinders” were exposed to high levels of radiation
3. Opened in 1936, the Hoover Dam straddles the Colorado River on the Arizona/Nevada border. The most massive public works project in U.S. history, its 3.25 million cubic yards of concrete could pave a 16-foot-wide highway stretching from San Francisco to New York City
4. Covering just 11.5 acres of land, the micro nation of the Republic of Molossia can be found near Dayton, Nevada. Founded by James Spielman and Kevin Baugh in 1977, it was initially a nomadic country, and was finally (per the Republic's website) transplanted to Nevada in 1995. It has its own navy, space program, bank, post office, and measurement system, among other features.
5. Nevada is also one of seven U.S. states with no individual income tax. It doesn't collect corporate income tax, either. It does collect sales taxes, similar to VAT.
6. The state takes it name from the Sierra Nevada mountain range: sierra nevada is Spanish for snowy mountains. As one of the most mountainous states in the country, Nevada's peaks have snow throughout much of the year. But it's also the driest state in the country, with an average rainfall of around 9.5 inches. Nevada is the country’s seventh-biggest state at 70,264,320 acres. However, the U.S. government owns 56,961,778 acres of that, according to a 2012 report by the Congressional Research Service, or around 81 percent of Nevada’s total area. The non-federally owned part of Nevada is actually smaller than West Virginia.
7. The largest and one of the most well known cities in the world is, of course, Las Vegas (which is not the capital, by the way; that honour goes to Carson City). Las Vegas, located in the Mojave Desert, is known as the entertainment capital of the world, often called Sin City. Let’s just face it: it’s the city of gambling. Or is it? You know all those hotels, casinos and fancy shops? The ones that are on the famous Las Vegas Strip. Well, those aren’t in Las Vegas. They’re in the neighbor city of Paradise.

HUNTING IN NEVADA: 3 THINGS TO KNOW
1) There are hundreds of rules regulating hunting. You need a hunting license and special permits in some situations. Certain types of firearms are prohibited for hunting specific animals. Plus, these regulations may change season to season. For the most updated rules, visit Nevada’s Department of Wildlife website at ndow.org.
2) People need to have completed an approved hunter education course in order to buy a hunting license in Nevada. See the description below for links to some of these classes.
3) Most hunting violations are punished as misdemeanors or gross misdemeanors. But hunters who unlawfully hunt certain big game mammals can face felony charges.

Aftercompletion the player with the lowest combined score of 138 was Brooke Mackenzie Henderson, Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada. Henderson will be 16 years old in September and has qualified to play in next weeks USGA Womens Open at Seabonack Golf Club in Southhampton, New York. She started golf at the age of 5 because her older sister Brittany played. Brittany recently graduated from Coastal Carolina University where she played on the golf team. When she was younger, she took lessons from another golf professional but as she got older, and better, she started taking the advice from her father. Obvious she has learned a lot about the game to shoot a score of 67 on a 5,948 yard layout Par 71 with a Rating of 74.8 and a Slope of 135.Plascencia is from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and just finished her Freshmanyear at the University of Arkansas where she played on the team that finished tied for13th place at the NCAA Womens Championship at the University of Georgia GolfCourse in May. The Republic of Molossia | Silver State Sights Episode 34
You might not expect to see the flag of another nation flying just off highway 50, but in the Dayton area, you will.
“It’s what called a micronation they have everything that creates a nation, said Bethany Drysdale of Travel Nevada. Currency, customs, a railroad, post office. And a president of course - President Kevin Baugh.”
He might dress more like a dictator than a president, but Kevin Baugh helped launch the micro nation decades ago.
“My friend James and I we saw a movie called ‘The Mouse that roared’,” said Baugh. “We were inspired to start our own country. He moved on to other things and I decided I was going to stay with it.”
When Baugh bought property in Storey County just outside of Dayton, he decided to transform it in to the micronation. Since then, tourists have consistently made a point to visit.
Micronations aren’t officially acknowledged by actual nations, but Baugh says a lot of them aren’t even actual places, which is why his has been a success.
“We actually flew from San Francisco when we learned it was going to be open this weekend,” said Hala Jelwan. “We woke up at 6 a.m. to make it on time so we weren’t late to meet the president.”
One thing that can’t be denied, is that Baugh has fun with the whole thing.
He says Molossia doesn’t have a gold or silver standard – but rather a cookie dough standard
“A few years ago we had Jack Black visit us, and his entourage brought us a tube of cookie dough,” said Baugh. “ We were awash in that stuff for weeks!”
First Lady Adrianne Baugh says a lot of people plan their vacations around going to Molossia, which is important because if you want to see it, you need to go on a tour day.
Genoa Lakes Golf Club
Lakes Course
One of two impressive courses at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club, the Lakes course is the product of a brilliant collaboration between PGA champion Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III. The spectacular links-style course measures more than 7,300 yards from the tips and, true to its name, incorporates water elements on fourteen holes, including both the native wetlands and the winding Carson River. The engaging Lakes course also offers four sets of tees, lush greens, rolling fairways and charming views of the eastern Sierra Nevada. Wildlife, including deer and waterfowl, can often be spotted meandering across the fertile landscape, which is dotted by reedy wetlands and groves of cottonwood
Thanks to its two spectacular courses, the Genoa Lakes Golf Club has played host to a variety of groups and events including the Nevada State Amateur and the American Junior Golf Association. The club is also the annual site of the U.S. Open qualifier in northern Nevada. Among its honors and accolades, Genoa Lakes has been named Fourth Best New Public Golf Course in the U.S. and Canada, One of America's Best Courses You Can Play, and Third Best Public Golf Course in the State of Nevada by Golf Digest.
Golfers playing the Lakes can warm up on one of seven target greens, two practice putting greens and a chipping/bunker play practice area.
Resort Course
Situated just two miles from its sibling course at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club in the fertile Carson Valley, the Resort course was designed for distance and power. The Johnny Miller and John Harbottle III-designed course is known for its expansive layout and unparalleled high desert vistas. Measuring nearly 7,300 yards from the tips, the par-72 course features more than 300 feet in elevation change, over 100 strategically-placed bunkers and devious terrain. Fairways lined by native sagebrush and generous, undulating greens demand superior shot-making skills, but the Resort course's five tee positions make it playable by golfers of varying abilities. Unlike its sibling course, water rarely comes into play on this layout but for the finishing holes, notably hole 17's island green. The course also features one of the longest driving ranges in northern Nevada.
New to the Resort course is a state-of-the-art fitness center that mimics the magnificent alpine-style clubhouse. The 10,000-square-foot facility features cardio and weight rooms, a pool, saunas, lavish locker and massage rooms, an outdoor fire pit and more.
The Genoa Lakes Golf Club is the annual host of the U.S. Open qualifier in northern Nevada. Genoa Lakes has also been named Fourth Best New Public Golf Course in the U.S. and Canada, One of America's Best Courses You Can Play, and Third Best Public Golf Course in the State of Nevada by Golf Digest.
