Jordaan & Negen Straatjes aka Nine Streets (9.28.13 - Day 1185)
Starting out at busstation Marnixstraat, today we see the Southern half of the Jordaan district, after which we continue on to the Negen Straatjes district, an area that only has become an Amsterdam hotspot several years ago, boasting little boutiques and alternative shops as well as cafe's and specialty restaurants.
Walking along the canals we end up at Leidseplein entertainment area where the city public transit company GVB is working on the tramways.
Upon returning, before entering HQ, I'm having dinner at Leo's and in the evening I'm watching a couple of movies.

One Day in Amsterdam! The best things to do in the capital of the Netherlands!
Amsterdam is one of our favourite European destinations for a great city trip. The Dutch capital has lots to offer from great food to awesome museums and some really great bars. We travelled all over the city to spend a perfect day in Amsterdam and capture our favourite experiences in the city. We start the day with a superfood breakfast at The Avocado Show. The restaurant specialises in instagrammable dishes featuring sustainable avocados. With a full stomach, it's time to shop. We hit up the picturesque Negen Straatjes. The nine small streets feature some of Amsterdam's best boutique shops. We visit contemporary clothing store Closed and second-hand shop Bij Ons. We jump on a bicycle and make our way to Albert Cuyp. We explore the world-famous market and taste some traditional Dutch snacks like poffertjes, stroopwafel and the famous Dutch Haring (Herring). To refuel after all the walking we visit Bar Bitterbal for a Dutch lager and some innovative new versions of Amsterdam's favourite beer snack, the bitterbal! Next up, we make our way to the famous canals where we rent a boat and navigate the maze of waterways in the city centre, it's our favourite way to see the city! As the sun sets, we keep up with the nautical theme as we wind down and have dinner at Surinamese restaurant and bar, Waterkant. The restaurant is named after the nightlife district in the former Dutch colony Suriname and serves traditional dishes like Roti and Bakabana which wash down perfectly with the Surinamese Parbo Beer.

The 9 little streets is a neighbourhood of Amsterdam located in the centre behind the Dam square. It consists of nine side streets of the Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, Herengracht and Singel in central Amsterdam which have been promoting themselves with that name since the 1990s. Together they form a sub-neighborhood within the larger western Canal Belt, one with many small and diverse shops and restaurants. The construction in this area goes back to the first half of the 17th century. Enjoy the rainy scenes ????

What to do in Amsterdam - The Pijp
The Pijp (De Pijp) is a very lively and popular district In Amsterdam, situated in the south part of the city. The Pijp was previously home to the working class. Now, it’s one of the city’s trendy areas, bursting with cozy cafes, diverse restaurants and cozy live music venues.
The district is a beautiful melting pot of many cultures and nationalities, which is well reflected in the various shops of Surinamese, Spanish, Turkish, Moroccan, Thai, Pakistani, Chinese and Indian entrepreneurs.
The two main streets in De Pijp are the Centuurbaan, stretching from the Hobbemakade, along the Sarphatipark all the way to the Amstel river. Most famous in De Pijp is the centrally located Albert Cuyp street with its daily market (except on Sunday). Next to it is the Sarphati Park.
Visit Heineken Experience to know more about the history of this company. The Heineken Experience offers a tour, interactive expositions, and a tasting bar.

Op 1 september 2008 vond de opening van het kunstproject 9straatjesROOD plaats. Het kunstproject was een initiatief van telecombedrijf Vodafone, dat vanaf die datum officieel een kantoor heeft in de hoofdstad. Cultuur-Ondernemen begeleidde dit enerverende project.
Stichting Cultuur-Ondernemen ondersteunt en begeleidt kunstenaars, creatieven en culturele organisaties bij het zakelijk optimaal benutten van hun creatieve kaptiaal.

De bekende negen straatjesin de Amsterdamse grachtengordel worden gedurende anderhalve week op verschillende manieren 'rood gekleurd'. Een jury koos hiervoor uit 120 inzendingen negen ontwerpen, bedacht door 11 kunstenaars.
