BORACAY PHILIPPINES DEC2009 PART 3
2009.12.19-24 BORACAY PHILIPPINES
Welcome to Honeymoon Island. A honeymoon island is a place friendly for all visitors, with sufficient variety of services, goods, gourmet food, nice life music and entertainment for dancing and happiness together, cozy rooms, cottages and resorts and a few enjoyable recreational activities you can share together - growing together while staying in touch heart to heart and having fun.
Boracay is seven kilometers long and divided into three barangays, or communities. Yapak lies in the north, Balabag in the center and Manoc-Manoc in the south. Within these barangays are smaller villages such as Angol, Manggayad and Bolabog.
White Beach , Boracay's biggest tourist attraction, stretches some four kilometers on the western side of the island, mostly within the barangay of Balabag. It is largely because of the pristine, white powdery sand of White Beach and the crystal-clear blue water of the surrounding sea that Boracay is often called the world's most beautiful tropical island.
While White Beach takes up most of the western shoreline, Bolabog Beach dominates the eastern coast. Bolabog (sometimes spelled Bulabog or Bulabug) belongs to the barangay of Balabag (with very little difference in spelling, Bolabog is often confused with Balabag by newcomers to the island). Normally the boat trip from Caticlan terminates at White Beach, but during the monsoon season when the western side of the island is lashed by strong winds, visitors are brought to a docking area in Bolabog. The waters here are also considered to offer ideal conditions for windsurfing. A small dirt road takes you from Bolabog to the foot of Mount Luho , the highest point on the island.
Understandably hotels on White Beach attract the most guests. The northern end of the beach is lorded over by Fridays , the southern end by Lorenzo South . In between you will find all kinds of accommodation, from native bamboo-and-nipa bungalows to Western-style concrete buildings.
White Beach extends into Manoc-Manoc, but the barangay features its own share of beaches worth visiting and exploring, including one named Manoc-Manoc Beach . The barangay also encompasses the Boracay Beach & Yacht Club and Crocodile Island, a popular destination for picnics, diving expeditions and marine excursions. The Dead Forest , a scenic spot believed to be populated by elemental spirits, is likewise located within the boundaries of Manoc-Manoc. White Beach Path runs along White Beach but is set back from the shore by rows of coconut trees. Hotels, eateries, bars, stores and dive shops line the entire length of the meandering footpath. This is where visitors to the island come to see and be seen.
You will find hotels like the longstanding Red Coconut Resort and more recently constructed Boracay Regency Beach Resort on White Beach Path, and likewise the Tourist Center , a handy one-stop shop for all kinds of travel needs (airline reservations, postcards, stamps, film, souvenirs and so forth). Thai Castles, True Food, Steakhouse Boracay , Gorio's , La Reserve Restaurant , Banza and La Capannina are among the better known eateries. Bars include Bom Bom and Summer Place Bar & Restaurant . Victory Divers and Aquarius Diving are just two of the many dive shops (there are more than 20 such outlets on the island) scattered along the path. Retail stores range from Paulo Collection Body Wear to Lonely Planet. The Talipapa Market, which burnt down in early 2005, has now been rebuilt in several locations between White Beach Path and Boracay Main Road .
Tricycles ply Boracay Main Road and a handful of side streets but are not allowed on White Beach Path. Except for Jony's Beach Resort , the town square (where the church and DOT Office are located), Beachcomber Bar & Disco , Moondog Shooter Bar , Pink Patio Resort and a few other establishments, there are not many places geared toward tourists on the main road. You may, however, ride a tricycle on the road to get to a hotel or an eatery on White Beach Path; just get off at the nearest stop and walk the rest of the way.
To facilitate locating an establishment on the island, the nearest boat station is often specified in its address. Here a word on these stations is in order: Numbered 1, 2 and 3, they are used as stopping-off points by boats ferrying new arrivals from Caticlan. Do not, however, expect some well-constructed structure with a welcoming jetty for you to conveniently step on. To disembark, you can go for one of two options: Jump into the water and wade ashore or allow yourself the luxury of being borne aloft on the shoulders of some hapless porter. Happy landing!

We are not for sale - Palawan Ecotourism
The Mangrove Paddle Boat Tour is a community based sustainable ecotourism project. The 45 minute tour into the Sabang River and its centuries old mangroves allows visitor to observe and appreciate what old growth mangrove forest free of human entervention looks like. Visitors are also given a chance to contribute to conservation by planting mangrove saplings in designated planting area. This ecosystem, to me, had a surreal, otherworldly quality that felt mysterious and primeval. Deafeningly silent, it was teeming with life, maybe even death. The stillness made me feel as if I were drifting through some alien landscape where at any moment some giant tentacle would explode from the water and pull me down to a soupy, tangled grave. The fact that you couldn?t see beyond the surface of the water only added to the mystery. Crocodiles, after all, have been known to feed here. The voice of the forest, Lady Mangrove. Aside from giving us a splendid, well-informed tour, she also sang us an OPM tune of her own composition that expressed her sincere love for this magical ecosystem. For a cheap Php150, this Mangrove Paddle Boat Tour is a totally worthwhile experience. If not for these humble mangroves important role in coastal ecosystem, Palawan's world acclaimed beaches wouldn't be what it is now, a world-class beauty. Palawan contains 43% of the total mangrove forests of the Philippines and Puerto Princesa is a city in the country where the total area of mangrove forests do not decline, but are increasing. The minute I got off that boat, I made a mental note to endorse this tour in my own little way.
Filipino Style Homes on Siargao Philippines
I have always loved looking at old style Asian houses whether it be in Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia or Laos.
To most people in the Western world these Asian houses are little tin and wooden shacks, but to the people that reside in them this is there home. L. Frank Baum once said There is no place like home and i have come to learn this since moving away from my home. The residents of these houses have as much love for their little shack as you do for your house.
I am curious to see the reaction i get from my subscribers from this video. It is not my normal type of video, however it is a video i have wanted to make for a long time.
I was originally going to use the song Mindanao by Freddie Aguilar, the famous folk musician from the Philippines. My reason for this is Siargao is part of Mindanao. Once i learnt what the lyrics meant in English i decided against it as the song Mindanao is about war.
My final song choice Silent Night was a tough one. If you knew how much time and thought i put into looking for the right music/song to use you probably wouldn't believe me. This was a very hard process. I want this video to have a WTF? moment when the viewer hears the song. I want you to question why i used this song? My reasons are as follows.
1 - The lyrics in the song Sleep in heavenly peace. This is the number 1 reason. Those words mean so much. As a human we all want and deserve a roof over our head where we can sleep in heavenly piece. Although these homes are very small and made out of wood and tin, this is the place where the home owners sleep in heavenly peace.
2 - The song Silent Night by Bring Cosby is the equal 3rd best selling single of all time with over 30 million sales. Most people who watch this video will know this song and maybe relate to it in some way or it will trigger some type of childhood memory of Christmas like it does for me.
3 - 92.5% of Filipinos are Catholic and celebrate Christmas. Silent Night is a famous Christmas song. I want this video to attract Christian Filipinos viewers not just my current subscribers.

The Legend of The Chocolate Hills | Travel in The Philippines
The Chocolate Hills are hundreds of perfectly shaped hills in The Philippines, named this way because they look like big pieces of chocolate. There is a legend about how these hills were formed. Actually, several GIANT legends. Here you'll find out how to get to the Chocolate Hills, so this video is informational. But you'll also hear the legend behind the hills, so it's educational. And also, it's just plain cool. So it's entertaining as well. Watch this video to see and hear everything you want to know about the Chocolate Hills, Bohol, in The Philippines. And a bonus: At the end we visit these tiny primates that live on the island of Bohol, called tarsiers. They are about the size of a human fist, but we get in close. You'll probably want to fly over and adopt one.

The Enchanted River - Mystical Clear Blue Waters
The Hinatuan River in Mindanao, Philippines, is a deep spring river on the island of Mindanao.
About 30 minutes from the town of Hinatuan in Barangay Cambatong lays the Hinatuan River which has become one of the most popular tourist attraction sites in Philippines.
The surface of the water is typically calm & peacefull, and this combined with the impressive clarity of the bright blue water, gives this place an unreal, magical quality.
The river has such crystal-clear waters, that you can see the riverbed even at the deepest part.
Hinatuan River earned it’s moniker Enchanted River” after being described in a poem written by the diplomat Modesto Farolan.
