Amman hosts German cultural event

German week has started in the Jordanian capital Amman.
The event aims to raise awareness about German culture in Jordan, and also focuses on the theme of Energy Transition - highlighting Germany's shift from conventional to renewable energy.
STORYLINE:
Birgitta Siefker-Eberle, German ambassador to Jordan, cuts the ribbon and kicks off German Week in Amman.
It is the third such event.
Market stalls have been set up to promote organisations such as the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the German Protestant Institute of Archaeology of the Holy Land, the Gerda Henkel and the Goethe-Institut.
Siefker-Eberle also takes the opportunity to look around the exhibition celebrating Energiewende or energy transition.
The event highlights Germany's shift from conventional to renewable energy.
Inaugurated in April 2016 in Beijing, the exhibition has since been shown in around 30 locations in 14 different countries.
It will be here for two weeks, and with this, we want to show what Germany wants to achieve by 2050, by getting out of nuclear energy and transitioning to renewable energy and to show Jordan, which largely has to import expensive energy, and does not have gas or oil, but has a lot of space and sunshine, that this perhaps offers a path for Jordan as well, says Siefker-Eberle.
The German Week was designed by (GIZ), the German Agency for International Cooperation and is being held in partnership with the Jordan Museum.
One of those taking part in the event is Professor Dorit Schumann, the Vice-President of the German-Jordanian University, who thinks it is an ideal way to share ideas.
For example, we are displaying robot arms which were built in our innovation laboratory. We are addressing issues such as renewable energy, such as biogas facilities, and also issues of energy and water, says the professor.
Sawsan Aruri, Deputy Director at KFW, a German government-owned development bank, is here to talk about the projects they support in the country.
The major project is Zaatari camp, to build a solar panel in order to save energy, for Zaatari camp and the surrounding areas.
Ehab al-Amareen, General-Secretary of Jordan Museum, tells visitors about the future possibilities that the event could open up for projects like these.
But not everything needs to be on a large scale.
A group of female plumbers speaks to Siefker-Eberle about the work they are doing to combat water shortages.
Our role here is to spread awareness among Jordanian ladies and also men living in the local community, and to show them how to save water, and to show them how important it is to use water-saving tools, they can save up to 60 percent of the water, says plumber Eman al-Abbadi.
As you know Jordan suffers from lack of water, and the refugees have increased the usage of water, so we are trying to teach them through training how to save water.
The German Week 2017 will run until September 21, featuring a variety of events and exhibitions promoting the German culture.

Wadi Al Mujib is grand canyon of Jordan.
Its a Must must must do if your planning to do something adventurous or if you are planning to visit Jordan.
Really an unexpected treat & amazing experience, Its an Adrenaline Rush Game.
Video is all about a hike in the mountains where you pull yourself up against the rapids.
This place is Highly recommended. Jordan's Travel Vlog will be coming soon but in this video its all about Mujib.
Wadi Al Mujib is beautiful & adventurous place to find in Jordan. It was one of the pleasant surprise we encountered in Jordan..
Mujib is a wet hike through canyons, Hike can be loose term for it. Hike can be a loose term for it. Be all prepared cos you need to walk and swim against the water current,
be able to climb on the rock and pull yourself against the rapids.
100% not for the weak hearts. Water is more than 10 - 15 Ft deep.
Bathrooms are available, place is clean & well maintained.
There are life guards too.
